Well, what Shark fans can be optimistic about right now is - the playoffs aren't called the 'second season' for nothing. Everything changes and everything gets gets re-set. Late March is a TERRIBLE time for post-season teams to still search out momentum and mojo, but all games / series / teams are about to start from -zero- again.
Looks probable sharks will get Pavelski back within a week, Karlsson will try a jump-start again sometime in April. We've seen it in spurts this season, This Shark roster is a hell of a team when they're in sync and 'going'. capable of beating any team. so it may not make complete sense but there's room for Shark fans to have cautious optimism. It's very possible to beat Vegas 1st round but many parts still need to fall into place.
So I'd say use these last six games as an exhibition schedule preparing for the 'second season'. Rest who you need to rest, get Korenar into a game to stir the pot and wake some stale players up.

It's bleak.
When they were right and everything was clicking, they could play with anyone but far too much has gone wrong this late in the season to believe it'll turn around in time to beat a good team like VGK.

My guess is they lose in 5 to Vegas...on the road as they are headed for a third place finish. They only make it to five games because Vegas has an off night at some point in the series. My last set of tickets is for Sundays Calgary game, which is meaningless at this point so I think we are most likely headed to the Travis Air Force Base air show instead. I won’t know for sure until I fly back in Friday night. For those who may want my seats (row 12, section 106), pay attention to this board on Saturday.

Howdy...was just minding my own business on the back deck in Carolina smoking a cigar and drinking bourbon (I know, shocking) when Nellie texted me about this. Happy to have this up and running and hope you are all well.

I think the struggle over the last two weeks means nothing and they will be in top form for Vegas and kick their teeth in. EK65 hopefully sits out and back for round 2.
Jones can rock a .900 through the playoffs as long as the boys are scoring the way they have all season. Cough up plenty, but attack in waves and score more. Thats the true identity of this team and it should be good enough.
Sorry for the optimism

Optimism is considered dorky in here and pessimism considered cool. So Bravo! Jones’ career *playoff* save percentage is around .926 so improved shark goaltending for the post-season is expected - and also very probable.

Obviously it doesn't make sense because a Flames-Sharks series was always unlikely but I really thought they matched up well against Calgary. Probably not so much anymore but I don't see a series against the Golden Knights being close.
If they had played well down the stretch and just missed out on first place, maybe I could see it. But now... Yikes.

Sounds like EK65 will travel with the team this week. I think it best they do not play him again at least in the regular season. Pavs is becoming a big concern as he has now been out a very long time. Also not at all buying lower body injury. Sure looked like ribs or shoulder to me. Finally showed a replay last night of the hit that caused this. Of course the sharks did not answer the hit......again. Do they not learn anything about knowing who is on the ice that can pull these types of hits? Same guy took Kane out last time around and now this.

There may be some value in having them skate in some throw away games just to help get back to game speed.

I think you realize those risks in Game 1 anyways in a much more intense atmosphere. I don't think it is better to save them for the playoff if they will be fumbling around in Game 1. I'd rather have them get up to speed ahead of the playoffs. I don't really know the timetable to getting to 100% though, so if they will be significantly better with the rest, then save them.

Dylan Gambrell was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Monday. Gambrell was called up to the big club March 29, and has no points in eight games this campaign at the NHL level. The 22-year-old will likely spend the remainder of the season in the minors, and his demotion suggests Joe Pavelski (undisclosed) could be nearing a return.
