Yee haw! Just got done with our back yard fireworks and shooting...all the critters are really quiet for a change I don't want to hear ANYBODY crying poormouth again after today. I've heard probably 20,000 M80s minimum, probably another 10,000 mortars and 100s of 1000s of firecrackers. It's damn near 1am and fucktards are STILL blowing shit up. I'm surprised my poor dog hasn't had a fucking heart attack! I'd like to go do some shooting right now! The wife and I went to Newark yesterday, we left and was going thru Tracy just about dusk. It was one solid fireworks display from Tracy all the way thru Stockton and it started slowing down in Lodi and Galt but not by much. It was like a freakin war zone. On the wife's facebook page somebody posted it must have been buy one get 6,000 free.

It's like they're giving the shit away for free in the fucking Walmart parking lot! I saw plenty of news footage from last night. No more fucking handouts! People have way too much fucking money apparently!

This weekend a friend of mine who is like a brother to me let me know that his sister, her husband and two young daughters were killed by a drunk driver in North Carolina. Their oldest son who is 15 was not with them and was given the news that his entire family is gone. Just a fucking tragedy.

In a talk about a small world moment I am friends with a guy in North Carolina from a birding group. She ran a dog rescue that the birding friend adopted a dog from. When I looked at her profile I was surprised to see who her brother was and said “You won’t believe this but your brother lived with me for 2 years and is one of my best friends.” She was one of those nice as can be people that we need more of in this world.

That's a helluva small world connection to this tragic story for sure. A dog rescuer as well? Damn, adds another level of "sucks" to the story... Edit: Any idea of what happens with the son? 15 years old and going through this shitstorm is brutal. He's going to need a lot of support from his extended family.

He has an Aunt in the area where he was staying when this happened. I talked to my friend today and the poor kid has done nothing but close himself in a room and cry for 2 days now. I am sure he is going to be getting some grief counseling soon. A Go Fund Me was set up and has already raised $15,000 for him in basically 1 day. Their original goal was $10,000 and they have now upped it to $50,000.

Oh that sucks................ I cannot even begin to comprehend the level of grief the poor kid is going through. I can somewhat understand. I lost my dad when I was 11. Almost lost my mom a week later. Almost. That's the key, almost. I would've still had my brother but he couldn't take care of himself let alone a little kid.

Ribs are about another hour away from ready. Firing up the grill for some chicken as well. Fucking humid as balls out here, plus a thunderstorm for like 3p minutes that forced me to pull my little smoker onto our front stoop. That sounds great...the ribs I mean Although, humid and afternoon thunderstorms are cool also...and pretty normal in July in NC. We went non-traditional this year and made/cooked pizza’s on the bbq. Those home cooked/bbq’d pizzas look funky, but they sure taste good! Happy 4th y’all. A pizza oven is my dream. Wood fired. You just can't get the same pop out of the dough in your oven. Though I'm getting pretty good with loaves of bread and crust on them.

I’ve got salmon down well and tried fresh Mahi Mahi last week while camping on the coast. It was good, but not great. I’m trying Ahi steaks tomorrow night. Any tips would be appreciated.

Any tips would be appreciated. Never tried to smoke or slow cook them. Generally grill them with some pepper, oregano, maybe thyme and some oil. Mostly stick to salmon on the grill as it holds together well. Have also done the pre-cleaned whole trout and swordfish. Just try to limit flipping it as it can easily begin to break the more you mess with it. Salmon is also nice as the skin can go to shit and keep the meat generally untouched.

The contingencies are falling like dead leaves. The movers are scheduled to load 07/30 The trailer will take off on 07/31 and so will we.
We're going to drive two cars. Mrs. cjelli feels brave enough.
The candidate routes are: Danville - Reno - SLC - Cheyenne - Omaha - Peoria - Columbus and Danville - Bakersfield - Flagstaff - ABQ - OKC - STL - Columbus
Which one should be easier, and less likely to cause car sickness?.. I'd guess Grand Canyon is one grand skillet this time of the year, isn't it?

I'd guess Grand Canyon is one grand skillet this time of the year, isn't it? I’ve driven both those routes, the Southern one several times. The Southern route is generally flatter and straighter (the Tehachapi Pass area gets a little steep/windy). You’re right, it will be hotter on the Southern route...but the Northern will still be very hot at that time of year. The roads in Illinois and Indiana are in bad shape and theres more traffic, narrow lanes, etc. Sharing them with big rigs can be a challenge if your wife is a nervous driver. Theres usually no speed restrictions on big rigs once out of California, especially in Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. It can be a little disconcerting getting passed by a double, sometimes triple, big rig at 75/80mph The Southern route gets high wind and dust storms from Eastern California all the way through New Mexico. I would highly recommend checking road construction/closures. I drove I10 East last year without checking and they had the entire freeway closed in Phoenix for a long term project. We were stuck in traffic for hours (on an alternate route)...fortunately it was in February so it was only 90 degrees or so.

There are always more alternatives there too if something is closed.
