An old friend of mine was to move into his new home in Kenwood. It is now surrounded by fire and likely will be a loss. At least he had not already moved in. My old boss was evacuated out of the Santa Cruz mountains but his place made it, his cabin in so cal did not. This season like the one a few years ago has hit home.

We had to put our dog down unexpectedly this summer...Weezy was a great dog and we miss her. Now enough time has passed and were getting back in the saddle... This is “Goose” our new Chesapeake Bay Retriever (CBR) puppy. We drive up to Kentucky to get him in 10 days. CBR’s are basically Labrador’s on steroids...tireless hunting dogs but also pretty good watch dogs. Not super friendly with strangers like labs, but loyal to the family. Many people consider them the best “water” dog breed. One of the few dog breeds that originated in America. Now the battle with my wife begins to keep him out of our bed

Sorry to hear that the Wine Country is burning again I hope your friends stay safe. I think this is three out of the last four years that Sonoma County has had large/dangerous fires. Two of my former co-workers lost homes in this current fire. Scary times.

Sorry to hear about Weezy, losing a pet is always terrible no matter how long you've had them.

Are you still enjoying living in the not so new place? Yeah, Weezy’s death was a kick in the tenders. Completely healthy, 10 year old bull terrier...died in three days of some stomach disorder that our vet and specialists in Columbia never figured out. Playing/running like normal on Monday, July 13th gone Thursday the 16th. Thanks (and to the rest of y’all in here) for the kind words

Speaking of Fall social...one of the many things I like about living down here is the change of seasons. Two weeks ago we were having daytime highs in the mid to high 80’s and nighttime lows in the low to mid 70’s. It was 75 today, supposed to be low 50’s tonight and all the trees are starting to change colors...fantastic! Out back BBQ’ing rib eyes with some Blanton’s. I hope y’all have a great weekend

I would like to get on a plane and go somewhere different though. Feeling a little couped up. Yeah, I know the feeling of losing a dog all too well. Back in November 2017, my Golden was fine on Sunday, started getting sick on the drive home from LA that night and was gone Monday night. I'm still not over that. Sucks...

My dad was a huge Gibson fan. I always chose him as my starting pitcher in early versions of baseball video games. His fastball was a scary thing

We did our second trip up to Susanville this weekend. Our youngest son graduates the corrections academy in two weeks and is headed to Susanville. Last week we left at 4 am Saturday morning but the u-haul had to be back by three that day so it was a quick turn around. this time we got the trailer Friday and then left early again on Saturday and was able to spend the nite. 522 miles round trip Wife is in a happy sad mood. LOL Happy that they are getting their life in order but sad that her youngest son and soon to be grandson are moving "so far away." I think we have one more trip to make before they are all moved up.

Congrats on your sons new career. It's not good when family moves away. I know, my daughter and grandkids live in texas so i've missed more than a few celebrations. You can always hop in the car and see them. Tell grandma everything will be fine

Susanville a nice area and good place to raise a family as far as California goes. Correctional Officer is a good career, you should be proud of him Good pay and benefits without all the public BS street cops are going through these days.

He's worked really hard and went thru a ton of bullshit to get into the academy. He was originally scheduled to go in April and then the shit show happened. We are very proud of him. One of the things my CHP buddy told him was that working in a prison you know they are all bad as opposed to being a cop when you pull somebody over you don't really know one way or the other.

On another road trip...the Civil War battlefield at Antietam, Va. then up to the Concord/Lexington area of Massachusetts for some Revolutionary War history. So weird how different places are handling the virus. I tried to check out the Springfield Armory but it was mostly closed. A volunteer there told me he has no idea when they will open. He was pissed because “all the weed stores are open but they won’t let us open this place.”

Throat cancer is a bitch! RIP EVH! This one has hit me hard. The guy was the reason I picked up the guitar and Van Halen is the soundtrack to my formative years all the way to college.
