Would anyone even miss the Canadian teams if we played the season without them? I love hockey night in Canada. Hands down a way better product than anything NBC could come up with. So to answer your question I suppose I wouldn't miss the teams, but the broadcast lol.

It's great and it's usually better when they take the lens off Canada.

Free speech (Canada doesn't have that amendment) may not be infringed by legislation, but with the whole "doxing" and "de-platforming" bullshit they effect is the same as legal action. I pray that one day soon we can return to "normal".

Probably my favorite part of HNIC is that they focus on the entire NHL, granted there is a bias for Toronto. NBC literally only cares if its Pitt or CHI (overly exaggerated I know) lol.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom will miss the entire upcoming season, general manager Ken Holland confirmed Monday.
Klefbom is dealing with a lingering shoulder injury that he's had surgery for multiple times during his career. Holland said in November it would be a "pleasant surprise" if the 27-year-old is available this season.
The NHL and NHLPA recently agreed on a 56-game schedule set to begin on Jan. 13.
Klefbom has spent seven seasons with the Oilers since being drafted 19th overall in 2011. He's one of Edmonton's top defensemen and registered 34 points in 62 games last season while averaging over 25 minutes per night.
The Oilers brought in Tyson Barrie this offseason to help make up for Klefbom's absence both at even strength and on the power play.

Goodbye. This is what happens when politicians restrict business for their own self made gratification. What a shitshow
Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said the team would be relocating its training camp from San Jose to Scottsdale, Ariz. because of COVID-19-related restrictions in Santa Clara County.

NHL Rule 83 (Off-side)
Beginning in the 2020-21 regular season, a player's skate will not have to be in contact with the blue line in order to be on-side. The updated language for NHL Rule 83.1 follows.
83.1 Off-side - Players of the attacking team must not precede the puck into the attacking zone.
The position of the player's skates and not that of his stick shall be the determining factor in all instances in deciding an off-side. A player is off-side when both skates are completely over the leading edge of the blue line involved in the play.
(NEW) - A player is on-side when either of his skates are in contact with the blue line, or on his own side of the line, at the instant the puck completely crosses the leading edge of the blue line. On his own side of the line shall be defined by a "plane" of the blue line which shall extend from the leading edge of the blue line upwards. If a player's skate has yet to break the "plane" prior to the puck crossing the leading edge, he is deemed to be on-side for the purpose of the off-side rule.

Wow the NHL finally changed the offside rule so that the skate doesn’t have to be on the ice. Now the players skate just needs to break the plane like in football to be considered onside.

Nashville, Tenn. (December 23, 2020) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced Wednesday that the team has signed forward Erik Haula to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.
Haula, 29 (3/23/91), tallied 24 points (12g-12a) in 48 games with the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers in 2019-20, hitting the 20-point mark for the fourth time in his career. from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet,
According to multiple sources, the league believes it will be able to retain $80 to $90 million in sponsorship revenue that would have been lost in 2020-21 without new initiatives. What’s particularly interesting is that these are all one-year contracts for brand preservation and make-good value. It allows everyone to test/learn the true value of these placements, without locking into long-term marriages.
What you are going to see:
HELMET DECALS You’ll notice that the first three sponsors — Capital One (Capitals); Prudential (Devils) and Bridgestone (Predators) — have their names on those teams’ arenas. This sponsorship is reserved for that kind of major partner. Teams are allowed to use one sponsor with the home helmets, another for the road helmets if they wish. (There is also the option of placing an ad on practice helmets.)...
EXPANDED BENCH SIGNAGE There are already ads on the boards behind the coaches as they stand, but what’s also being discussed are ads on the glass. Over the holidays, an LED system will be tested, but there will be stiff standards against glare onto the ice and into the players’ faces, so that’s no guarantee....
EDGE WRAP On the glass, just above the boards. Six different configurations, including behind both nets. See-through. Two partners to share the opportunity.
TARP SEAT COVERS If you watched last summer’s playoffs in the bubble, you saw these in the lower bowl. Neutral colours, no black so the puck is hidden from goalies....

from Michael Traikos of the National Post,
Beginning in mid-January, the Coyotes are about to become the hottest ticket in hockey. Who knows, they might be one of the only tickets available this year.
While provinces across Canada continue to debate whether hockey players are deemed essential enough to warrant cross-provincial travel, the Coyotes have not only been cleared for hosting games at Gila River Arena — they are opening their doors to their loyal fans.
How many of them will be allowed into the building for their home opener against the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 14 is still not yet known. But even one fan would be more than what most teams are cleared for.
The Sharks, who are currently planning to open training camp in Arizona because of health restrictions in Santa Clara County, are not sure when or if they will be allowed back in California. As of Tuesday, the province of British Columbia had not yet cleared the Vancouver Canucks to host games against the other Canadian teams in the North Division.
Right now, if you want to experience a live hockey game you have to go to Arizona.
And the team is already preparing to make the most of the unique situation — even if a partially filled arena is not exactly unique to the Coyotes.

Amazing. Nikita Kucherov has a hip injury that will last the entire season so the Lightning can use LTIR to remain cap compliant. That’s winning franchise stuff.

Sharks play the Blues, Kings, and Avalanche four times in a row. Gotta think that bodes well for some ill-will and heated games. Too bad they didn't get the Ducks and Golden Knights for a round too.
For all the weirdness surrounding this season (and that the Sharks aren't any good), playing only within your division with all of its playoff implications and playing exclusively back-to-backs against a bunch of old rivals as well as the aforementioned four game sets, maybe this year will actually have some old school feel to it. I sure hope so. The typical 82 game regular season is a little too boring at the moment and has been for some time. Too long, too many games, and you can tell the average Tuesday night game against whoever just doesn't have the same juice as the old school rivalries when division games meant a lot more and you played each other more often.
