OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has acquired defenceman Erik Gudbranson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a Senators' (previously acquired from Edmonton) fifth-round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft.
An Ottawa native, Gudbranson registered nine points (four goals, five assists) and 91 penalty minutes over 44 games in his lone season with the Ducks in 2019-20. He began the campaign with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he was held scoreless while recording four penalty minutes.
"Erik Gudbranson provides another sizable presence to our defence corps," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He's a reliable veteran who plays an intimidating style of game and someone who will add a combination of grit, energy and, most importantly, leadership to our lineup."

RALEIGH, NC - Carolina Hurricanes forward Justin Williams today announced his retirement from the National Hockey League.
"Since I first broke into the league a day after my 19th birthday back in 2000, this game has brought me so much that I will never be able to repay it" Williams said. "The countless experiences, relationships, lessons and hardships will remain with me forever as I move on to the next stage of my life. I've never once taken for granted the privilege it is to be able to play a game for a living, and that is probably why I was able to play it professionally for as long as I have.

The Athletic rated the Sharks draft as a B- didn’t get impact talent but added quality depth to the pipeline. That's what they've needed the last five years, depth. The pipeline between the Sharks and Baracuda is nonexistent The problem is that depth needs development, whereas the impact talent is usually ready to use. Given the state of Barracuda, they're better off with high-risk high-reward picks. Or trading them altogether. |

Love the way Anderson plays but a long term contract for a guy of his calibre (not mentioning a serious shoulder injury)? Has over signing or over paying middle tier players ever worked out for anyone? |

Sharks bring back Noesen per TSN. I thought he was going to walk... Decent contract though, the length is key to any UFA they are to sign being one year out from the Kraken draft. At least that is one gritty/energy guy. |
