Word on the street is... Alex Pietrangelo signed with Vegas for 8.8 per year. I'm interested to see how Vegas is going to get under/ cheat under the cap.

As of an hour ago they were almost 7mil above the cap with Stastny's contract already removed. They are still almost 1 mil above and they did have to let Schmidt go for a 3rd rounder. I'll admit I did not see that coming.

NHL radio was talking about Vegas being obsessed with having to have the big name on the market. Had to have Stone. Had to have Paciorretty. Had to have Lehner and now had to have Petrangelo. Throw firing a coach who had taken you to the cup finals. They missed the chance to trade Fleury because the goalie carousel has finished. Now they have to offload Nate Schmidt for only a 3rd round pick and they are still over the cap.

Nieto-Marleau-Sorensen could be a devastatingly fast line that might score ten goals in a season.

from Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times,
As expected, the NHL pushed back until Jan. 1 the anticipated start of the coming season before the ensuing one in which the Kraken will officially launch.
The 2020-21 campaign will now be played entirely in 2021 and must finish by mid-July so NHL partner NBC can broadcast the Olympic Games in Tokyo. That doesn’t leave much time to get NHL games in, while the prospect of the Kraken launching the 2021-22 season in November or December of next year seems inevitable.
Of greater concern to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is how this coming season will play out....
But when Bettman mentions things out of his control, look no further than what the Canadian government will allow. While the U.S. is all over the map in terms of sports and pandemic restrictions – while also leading the planet in COVID-19 cases and deaths – Canada has been much tougher and is still tightening rules amid a feared “second wave” of outbreaks.
That’s a big deal because the 31-team NHL has seven Canadian squads. Forget about fans in arenas for a minute; Bettman knows his American teams likely won’t be allowed across the border for non-bubble play come January....
At best, it appears to be looking at starting the season with short-term regional bubble zones in Canada and the U.S., where a bunch of games can be played early on by teams within their respective countries without crossing borders. It’s also possible Canadian teams could temporarily relocate to U.S. cities, though that appears less likely.
Remember, the Canadian NHL presence isn’t like the Blue Jays being a lone MLB representative. Canadian teams form roughly a quarter of the NHL, Canadian players are its largest demographic and Canadian television revenue is bigger than what the NBC deal generates.
So, the league is taking a wait-and-see approach. It will likely start in bubbles, hoping new cases subside and there’s more vaccine progress that could allow some arena attendance later.

Read that Nieto and Marleau contracts are identical; 700K for one year is not bad at all. If those two can combine for 20-25 goals that’s a big ROI.

This is the sharks we are talking about. Also they will only allow 2 goals per game. And they will lower the price of beer at the tank..............

When I first visited SJ, a 120 Mbyte hard drive was about $800 everywhere else in the country. I could not believe my eyes when I came up to interview for a new job and saw an ad for a local store called NSA selling that size drive for $150 or so. Hell I took that job just so I could have access to NSA and Frys (I wasn't in the electronics business). A couple months ago I got a 2 Terabyte drive (i.e. 2 million Mbytes) for like $60. I actually ordered the wrong thing accidentally and didn't want that, but it was so cheap it wasn't worth my time sending it back. Danville and his friends have done us such an unbelievable service in lowering the price of disk drives by like 100,000-fold. Why can't the godam Sharks lower the price of beer at the tank?
