And just as an aside, as much as I'm a Marleau fan, he really has no business playing anymore except to break the record. Which is fine, let him break it, it doesn't bother me or somehow dishonour the accomplishment in my book, but he's an unspecialized fourth liner on one of the worst, shallowest, rosters in the league. He does the details well and can still skate, but he doesn't have the skill to do anything of note. I'm happy he'll get the record and for all the undeserved criticism he's taken throughout his career and the quiet greatness that never seemed to be recognized, he has earned it but he should retire at season's end. I'd go further and say that he deserves to break the record more than to have his jersey retired. He hasn't led the Sharks anywhere for the jersey in the rafters.

In a way he is lucky to be in San Jose. I dont think you can play him on most teams. He is just a total non factor in most games. He has as many goals as Vlassic............... But only one shy of Karlsson!

Elliotte Friedman tweet,
To add some context to this, Peel was scheduled to retire later this season. His final game was April 24. Still think it’s a big punishment…taking that away from him.
On a side note, will this impact Peel's retirement benefits? I smell a lawsuit if it does.
And you can't tell me this shit hasn't been going on for years. Kerry Frazier always said you had to set a "tone" on the ice to keep control of the game when it came to certain teams/players. Isn't this what Peel was doing?

Given we was about to retire this looks like a huge overreaction. And yes refs have been setting a tone forever in all sports.

* Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane (0-2—2) reached 1,066 career NHL points and leapfrogged Keith Tkachuk (1,065) for sole possession of fourth place on the League’s all-time list among U.S.-born players. Kane was honored in a pre-game ceremony at United Center for recently reaching the 1,000-game milestone – Kane’s former head coach Joel Quenneville watched from the Panthers bench while the rest of his team was in the locker room.

It's funny how the NHL is acting like it never happened before, what a joke. Definitely an over reaction though. Was he the one who was giving Kane a penalty what seemed like every 5 mins last season?

Huge overreaction and silly even in today’s hot take world where everything is blown out of proportion.

Sharks forward Patrick Marleau skated in his 885th consecutive regular-season game dating to April 9, 2009 and passed Steve Larmer (884 GP from Oct. 6, 1982 – April 15, 1993) for sole possession of the fourth-longest “Ironman” streak in NHL history.

Can we trade the Sharks for the Kraken? Lmao... I'm sure with the amount of money they "gave" to purchase the team, they are going to be in a real position, just like Vegas was handed.

from KMOV4,
Legendary member of the St. Louis Blues Bobby Plager died Wednesday after being involved in a car accident on Interstate 64, multiple police sources confirmed to News 4.
The accident happened along eastbound Interstate 64 near Vandeventer. Police said the crash involved two vehicles. Plager was rushed to a hospital, where he died. A woman in the other vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. It's not known what led to the crash.
It is unimaginable to imagine the St. Louis Blues without Bobby Plager.
He was an original 1967 member of the St. Louis Blues, but also an original in every sense of the word. Bobby's influence at all levels of the Blues organization was profound and everlasting, and his loss to our city will be deep.
Bobby liked to say he was No. 5 in our program, but No. 1 in our hearts. Today, our hearts are broken, but one day they will be warmed again by memories of his character, humor and strong love for his family, our community, the St. Louis Blues and generations of fans who will miss him dearly.
The St. Louis Blues send all of our love and support to his family, and we hope everyone will find strength knowing that Bobby got his parade.

from CBC.
The Canadian government is poised to approve a shortened seven-day quarantine with extra testing for NHL players traded from American teams to Canadian teams before the April 12 trade deadline, according to a federal government source.
The source says that all provinces with NHL teams have approved of the measures.
The seven-day mandate cuts in half the current quarantine requirement of 14 days, lessening an impediment to teams trading players across the Canada-U.S. border. The seven Canadian teams have been playing exclusively among themselves this season to prevent cross-border issues because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
