They're trying to be Notre Dame in Sin City I am a terrible Catholic. I never understood the obsession with Notre Dame. That’s because you went to Mitty and those horrible Holy Cross students at St. Francis people were rivals I had an uncle from a poor-ish Irish American family in Maine. I’m not sure if he even finished high school and college was never a remote possibility for him. But he LOVED Notre Dame and followed their sports teams slavishly. A lot of Irish ethnic blue collar people just did, because they were famous, successful and had Irish in their name, so it felt like they were standard bearers. Which all has some irony because while the Holy Cross Order was indeed present in Ireland and that branch probably did found the school, I think the Order originated in France, and of course the school’s name is French. As it happens, that works for Uncle Donnie too because he had a French Canadian grandparent (though I don’t think Donnie ever admitted that - the grandfather changed his name from Guilemette to Gilmore when he married an Irish girl

Only a St Francis alum or parent would do that

My kids went to high school in a different part of the state but St. Francis is one place I would not have sent them. Good school but so far away from where I used to live and not on the way to anywhere we would ever be going.

Good school but so far away from where I used to live and not on the way to anywhere we would ever be going. My Niece went to Mitty and all of her summertime softball teammates went to St Francis. Coaching that girls team was an adventure but they were all great kids. Some of the parents not so much

My good friend went to St Francis and all three of his daughters went to Mitty. He clocked Barry Bonds on the football field one game. No doubt before his steroid induced heft. Barry was a skinny little kid when he first came up. Tall, Lanky and a eye to hit the ball in any situation. His reflexes in the batters box were just crazy and he could turn on any pitch or go opposite field. He was a HOF'er way before he started juicing. A lot of people forget that
