ESPN front page features an article on women's hockey: www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/32978846/what-alex-sinatra-do-phf-players-associationThe new leader wants to build the league and create opportunities. That is great and good luck to her. Where I take issue is the dishonesty in some of the statements we hear all too often: "People say things like, 'oh, women's hockey is not as entertaining and they don't have any revenue,'" said Sinatra. "My response is, if you've been allocating resources inequitably for so long, of course there's going to be a difference in economics. And the women were told, 'OK, we want you to be the same product as the NHL,' and the women must come back and say, 'we're a different product.' Some people in the industry have such an inherently ingrained bias against sports where women are playing that they don't even recognize some of the decisions they're making are based upon gender inequity. Once we start having conversations around that, the people who are inequitably allocating resources [can] recognize the choices are about gender, and not about the quality of the product. Because anyone who has watched women's hockey knows it's a quality product." The product on the ice is unwatchable. The quality of play is so bad I am pretty certain a boys U-14 team would beat them. She pretends that the gender bias is because of resources not biology. Why not just say what everyones knows. The game is different and that is a function of science. If the players were male and played at this level there is nobody that would think the quality of the game is good. Some just aren’t willing to accept the reality that there are people who simply choose not to watch women’s hockey, like it’s not fair or something, which is bizarre (if you’re using logic and reason, but many don’t) considering watching any sports is a choice of free time use and people have a plethora of options to choose from. If you’re not giving your audience a good product they will give their time and money to something else. Hello WNBA. They have a lousy product too but they keep jamming it down our throats

I didn’t think it was possible, find something on vlasic now I guess there is a Hockey God watching over the Sharks. I never thought they would be able to terminate Kane's contract with no monetary penalties involved

Dan Milstein-
We are aware of the Sharks’ decision to put Evander on waivers for contract termination. If he clears, we will file a grievance. The Sharks do not have sufficient grounds for taking this action. #WeAreGoldStar!

NHLPA-
We are aware of the San Jose Sharks’ stated intent to terminate Evander Kane’s contract. The NHLPA intends to challenge any such action by filing a grievance

Kurz-
The Sharks’ Evander Kane contract termination stems primarily from him traveling to Vancouver while COVID positive, according to multiple sources.

This is getting interesting, not much of an offense to void a 20+ million contract. Will Kane ever not do something amazingly stupid? He Must have known they were hoping he would give them an excuse..

For how serious the league claims it is taking on covid it should be technically the ultimate sin during this madness (I agree it is stupid offense).

The next question would be how did he travel there? Unless he drove (that may require a covid passport as well, I do not know) how did he get into the country without a negative test?

How in anyway possible does the league allow Kane to sign anywhere in the NHL? He has now violated covid's bullshit protocols twice. The league is literally postponing games because of its focus on covid. It blows my mind.

NEW YORK (Jan. 10, 2022) – Colorado Avalanche left wing Gabriel Landeskog, Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros and San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Jan. 9.

of course the Leaves want Kane, the leaves want every player in the world. Sheesh, anyway from Michael Traikos at the Calrgary Herald, The Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to be one of several teams that are interested in signing Evander Kane to a one-year "show-me" contract. A source close to the player, whose contract with the San Jose Sharks was terminated last week for breach of the AHL’s COVID protocols — with Kane having flown to Vancouver in late December, less than 10 days after registering a positive test — said that Kane wants to play for a championship-contender. And he's willing to do it for far, far less than the $7-million he was earning with the Sharks. Carolina, Edmonton, Florida, Tampa Bay and Vegas are among the other teams reportedly interested in Kane's services. "Teams have been calling," said the unnamed source. "The phones are lit up like a Christmas tree." More here: link.calgaryherald.com/view/61c0b1c833476a1a9522af5761dc60bb53073e15d53704bc/5089e2e8
