Pierre LeBrun @pierrevlebrun My understanding is both sides are working to finalize an 8-year extension for Tomas Hertl to stay in San Jose

That is a very long contract...... Thats great…the Sharks have such a good track record with long term contracts with late 20’s guys. Nothing against Hertl, but he’ll be 36 at the end of that 😬

In other hockey news, saw on the NHL website that all three Staal brothers have each played more than 1,000 games in the NHL…very cool.

I’ll approve of the Hertl signing on the condition that they win the lottery this year or next.
Love Hertl but fuck… purgatory ‘reset mode’

Hertl kinda deserves it, but for a guy with his knees to get 8x8? I'd pass and take the assets for a reload.
But maybe Karlsson will finally be really fully healed for the first time in the last 4 years and regain his all-world form from 6 years ago and this team can contend again? That seems like a good bet.

When the Leafs get knocked out in the first round again this year, I'd try and trade Logan for one the core pieces. He could be sold to Dubas easily since he is from Toronto lol. As for Karl it looks like he may be returning to form, it seems like it or at least finally earning that contract. I really doubt he finishes the entire contract, I think that hit will be used to go above the cap for a couple years on LTIR.

I believe Couture got a NMC in his contract which runs until he’s almost 40 years old, no GM would be stupid enough to take on that contact. OH wait DW might, he signed Raffi Torres to a 3 year deal when Torres knee’s we’re shot. That’s the Sharks 🤦

Wish I could be more excited about the Hertl signing... but I'm really not, yet. Hertl a solid first line center, but he can't carry the Sharks. Need more quality young guys coming up or Hertl will get frustrated. In my dreams, I'd trade Couture and that contract at deadline for two young NHLers.. Likely get a #4 or #5 pick in this summers NHL draft. OK, but Sharks need more, much more to win a playoff spot in the near future. and exactly where the hell is Doug Wilson?
Joe Will calling shots now?

Now if Couture's contract was a more friendly cap hit, I'd say keep him but his 8 mil is a hole, and same with Vlassics 7.

Hertl extended now makes me really wonder where the Sharks would be if one of their most talented forwards wasn’t playing in Sweden right now.

Jack Eichel is the latest worry for the Vegas Golden Knights, who have been plagued by injuries this season and are in danger of missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since they joined the NHL as an expansion team in 2017-18.
The center left in the second period of the Golden Knights' 5-3 win against the Florida Panthers at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday after blocking a shot with his hand.
"He didn't come back, so obviously it's not good," coach Peter DeBoer said. "He'll get evaluated, and we'll know more hopefully [Friday]."
"I haven't had a group face as much adversity as this group's had thrown at them," DeBoer said. "They keep showing up and giving us what they have, and I'm proud of them."

I was always excited at the trade deadline, knowing the Sharks could possibly upgrade, NOW I'm hoping they trade away a bunch of people! On another note, How many buyouts does each Team get per Year? 2?

I can’t believe they couldn’t get more for Giroux. Lindholm looks like an overpay, both in trade and the extension they gave him. He’s solid but unspectacular.

Don’t know if it was posted but the Ducks also traded tough guy Deslauriers to the Wild for a third.
