We regret to announce the passing of Petr Klíma at the age of 58. Klíma played parts of 13 NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins, recording 313 goals and 260 assists in 786 career games. He helped the Oilers to the 1990 Stanley Cup. Internationally, Klíma played for Czechoslovakia on multiple occasions, winning Silver at the 1983 World Juniors and Bronze at the 1984 World Juniors.

Rags booted Gallant to the curb. Something seems off with him and how unceremoniously he gets dropped.

Why do I feel like I need to take a shower after rooting for the Dirty Oil. 🤢 Yeah, you want to see them lose but you also hate the knights like the rest of us. It's a sorry tale of rooting for teams you hate

Looks like Florida is back to their President's Trophy form from last year. Bobrovsky looks like he's back on top of his game but there's still a long way to go. Sam Reinhardt is the money player, he's on a different level in the Playoffs

It’s lottery day! Prepare yourself for disappointment! Instead of asking what the odds of getting Bedard, ask how far down can the Sharks drop?

The “Get Your Tinfoil Hat” Rankings The league would totally rig a draft lottery for a generational franchise player, right? (Ignores Connor McDavid meekly raising his hand in the back row.) Of course, they would, let’s figure out how they’ll do it.
Not ranked: Columbus Blue Jackets — It’s going to be so funny when they win and Bettman has to pretend to be happy for them.
5. Washington Capitals — Oh look, the winger whose chase for the all-time goals record will be the biggest story in the hockey world in a few years but might be about to lose his long-time playmaking center to injury gets a stud replacement just in time to make sure he gets to the finish line, what a coincidence …
4. Montreal Canadiens — Oh look, the biggest Canadian market in the lottery lands the first pick for the second year in a row, remind me again which massive national TV deal is the next one that needs to be renegotiated, what a coincidence …
3. Ottawa Senators — Oh look, the team that’s about to be sold in a transaction that will set the bar for franchise values all across the league defies the odds to move up 10 spots and grab Fantilli, a superstar that could nudge up their price tag, what a coincidence …
2. Chicago Blackhawks — Oh look, the only team anyone in the NHL’s marketing department has ever heard of lands a superstar just as their two long-time franchise players are ready to move on, what a coincidence …
1. Arizona Coyotes — Oh look, the team that’s been struggling to exist for two decades and that Gary Bettman keeps propping up against all odds finally gets a superstar to build around right before the vote on arena funding that will determine its future, what a … you know what, all jokes aside, this one will be pretty shady.

The “Who Needs it Most?” Rankings
Everyone wants the first pick, but some teams need it more than others.
Not ranked: Arizona Coyotes — Bedard wouldn’t get as much ice time when he plays as the second-line center to Auston Matthews. (But seriously, I can’t think of any team that doesn’t desperately need a win tonight.)
5. Chicago Blackhawks — OK, maybe “need” feels like a strong word for a big-market team that’s already won three recent-ish Cups. But Kyle Davidson did everything short of lace up the skates and shoot pucks into his own net this year, and if all of that adds up to the fifth pick … yikes.
4. St. Louis Blues — Their prospect pipeline is the weakest of any lottery team, although they did an impressive job of loading up on picks at the deadline. If a rebuild is coming, it could be a long road. Or they could win the lottery, and fast-forward it by years.
3. San Jose Sharks — Most of what we just said about the Blues is true for the Sharks too, with the extra burden of being locked into a bunch of bad contracts for years to come. They’ve still got some solid players, but nothing all that close to a star up front either on the roster or on the way.
2. Columbus Blue Jackets — A year ago, we might have made the case that winning the lottery was the only way the small-market Blue Jackets could ever land a superstar, but apparently Johnny Gaudreau missed that memo. Still, this is a team that’s basically never had any sustained success, and they just found out they’re a lot further from it than they’d hoped. Bedard would change everything.
Johnny Gaudreau and the Philadelphia Flyers. (Eric Hartline / USA Today) 1. Philadelphia Flyers — They’ve spent the last few years in denial about how badly they needed to start over. They say that’s no longer the case, but after watching their team whiff hard on the deadline, Flyers fans might prefer some show instead of tell. Landing Bedard or Adam Fantilli would be the sort of system shock toward the future that even the Comcast suits couldn’t ignore … maybe.

The “Who Actually Deserves It?” Rankings
As always, “deserves” feels like the wrong word when teams are trying to lose. Our writers took a crack at this one over the weekend, but my answers are the right ones.
Not ranked: Chicago Blackhawks — They openly tanked, about as shamelessly as any team we’ve ever seen, and they still didn’t finish last. The lottery loves to reward tanking and it loves to reward failure, but failed tanking? No thanks.
5. San Jose Sharks — They’ve never picked first, although it feels like 15 years of Joe Thornton should count a little bit. Still, they’ve had the second pick three times, and two of them turned into Pat Falloon and Andrei Zyuzin, so they’re due for some luck.
4. St. Louis Blues — They’ve been around for 56 years and have only had the first pick one time — and they used that to take Erik Johnson ahead of Jonathan Toews, Nicklas Backstrom or Phil Kessel. Other than that, they haven’t picked in the top three since the late ’70s.
3. Anaheim Ducks — A lot of fans insist that the sole purpose of the draft is to help the worst teams, and the Ducks were the worst team. Were they tanking? Maybe, but at least they were a bit more subtle about it than some teams we could mention.
2. Columbus Blue Jackets — They weren’t tanking, and in fact, they thought they’d be good this year. They weren’t, and they desperately need some good news. The fan base has been loyal despite never having much to cheer about. And they’ve only had the first pick once in franchise history — and that was back in 2002 for an underwhelming draft that turned out to have just one Hall of Famer in it.
1. Detroit Red Wings — They’ve been bad for years and are exactly the sort of team that desperately needs a franchise player to build around. But they didn’t tank this year, at least until the very end. And they’ve never won a lottery, and haven’t picked first since 1986 or in the top three since 1990.

Chicago gets Bedard.
What a way to bomb out after a dynasty run and the worst scandal in recent NHL history.
Does anyone think this is legit? NHL wants that tv market and eyes somewhere in the west.
Guess it's better than him going to Anaheim but... ugh.

Sheng-
Grier suggests that Michkov coming in 2026-27 isn't a prohibitive thing that would stop #SJSharks from drafting him. Grier also noted that Smith going to BC isn't a good thing (he was joking) but did point out his son went to high school with Smith for a year
