Now the sharks can drop the hammer down if they can win this game. Some guys showed up big time last game but certain coworkers need to wake up.

I hope the Sharks win this one to really put pressure on the Av’s. I’m a little concerned about some of the TOI numbers for the D’men. Looked really slow and tired near the end Tuesday night.
Go Sharks!

From the article: The line of Thornton, Labanc and Marcus Sorensen was put together by the Sharks right after the All-Star break. Thornton played matchmaker. "Joe wanted Sorensen. He asked for him. He saw something in him that meshed well with how he wanted to play. Something offensively even before I did," DeBoer said. "I thought he was a fourth-line energy player and maybe didn't have the offensive instincts to get 18 to 20 goals. Joe saw that. And Labanc worked his way in there, too." Sorensen was flattered to be picked by Thornton. "He's helped me a lot. Just being around, telling me stuff every day. Keeping me focused all the time. He's a great guy, great leader, too. Everybody wants to be like him," he said. Thornton wanted Labanc on his line, too, but thought the young Sharks forward needed improvement. The totality of his game wasn't where it needed to be, especially in the defensive end. So Thornton and DeBoer challenged Labanc. "Can we trust you to be on the ice in critical times? Can you help us win?" DeBoer recalled asking Labanc. "It's been a work in progress, but without Jumbo's guidance and mentorship, he wouldn't be where he's at."

If Thornton had to tell DeBoer who he wanted to play with and why then maybe DeBoer isn't cut out to be the Coach of the Sharks anymore

That’s a nice article and gives further perspective inside the locker room. I’m watching the recent the Deep episode that chronicled that game 7 series win, I noticed that PD is not a loud and commanding voice. It seems like the guys are coaching themselves and getting motivated by each other vs by their coach.
I’ve never witnessed a Sharks team that was this close (seemingly). I think Thornton’s pivot going into his final year/s as a hockey player, has changed the culture of this team.

I was listening to a John Scott podcast and he remarked that the team completely tuned out on Torts and ran their own style of play.

By CURTIS PASHELKA | cpashelka@bayareanewsgroup.com | Bay Area News Group PUBLISHED: May 2, 2019 at 12:44 pm | UPDATED: May 2, 2019 at 12:53 pm
DENVER — The Sharks, understandably, are staying with the same forward lines and defense pairs for Game 4 of their second round playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
But with the Sharks’ power play struggling to score, it does appear some adjustments are being made to both the first and second units. In their morning skate Thursday, the Sharks had winger Gus Nyquist on the first unit with Brent Burns, Kevin Labanc, Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl. Timo Meier was on the top unit in Game 3, but it appears Nyquist will be in that spot for the start of Game 4.
In Game 3 on Tuesday, when the Sharks won 4-2 but went 0-for-4 with the man advantage, Nyquist spent time on the second power play unit with Joe Thornton, Evander Kane, Marcus Sorensen and Erik Karlsson.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic saw a little bit of power play time in Game 3 and it appears he’ll start Game 4 on the second unit with Thornton, Kane, Karlsson and Meier. Sorensen did not practice with either the first or second units Thursday morning.
The Sharks are 1-for-9 with the man-advantage in this series, with their one goal coming from Burns in the third period of Game 2, a 4-3 Colorado win. For the playoffs, the Sharks are 9-for-43 (20.9 percent) on the power play. During the regular season, the Sharks’ power play ranked sixth in the NHL at 23.6 percent.
“Mixing some things up, but honestly, for us, the mentality is the same like we’ve been playing on the power play the whole year,” Meier said. “Our mentality in the playoffs doesn’t change. There might be some personnel changes sometimes, but for me and our power play, we just try to keep it simple and do the things we’ve been doing all year.”
Regardless of personnel changes, the Sharks can help themselves by winning more faceoffs in each power play. Tomas Hertl lost all five of his draws when the Sharks had the man advantage Tuesday and team as a whole was 0-for-7.
“This can’t happen,” Hertl said. “I have to win for the boys and start them with the puck because it’s way easier than right away losing many seconds. Hopefully I can do a little bit better job. “We have to just play our game. Try to get a couple shots. I have to be bigger in front of the net. Make it harder for (Avalanche goalie) Philipp Grubauer.”
Pavelski update Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said Thursday morning that Joe Pavelski’s skate the day before went well. It was Pavelski’s first time on the ice since his April 23 head injury. “I heard good, positive things,” DeBoer said, adding that he wasn’t sure how long Pavelski skated or when he might go on the ice again.

Hertl is due for a goal in this series, only having 2 assists. He’s kind of drowning in that 2nd line with Kane and Radil not being great.
