I think replay is fucking up all of the sports. Yeah that and puck over glass penalty in the NHL. That's the dumbest penalty in all of sports. It's almost as absurd as the two line pass was 25 years ago. I disagree with you on that one. Do you not remember how ridiculous it got before the rule change? The Dallas Stars were the most blatant back then Anytime they were tired on D they made no effort to move the puck up the ice. They just threw it over the glass. That way they avoided the icing call and were able to get a fresh line on the ice. It was happening multiple times a game almost every game with them.

Bingo. As long as humans are involved in the process, error will exist. Now instead of people talking about the Sharks' amazing comeback against the Knights or a fast and grueling toe-to-toe battle against the Avalanche, we're talking about two plays that have 'decided' both game sevens. It's not good. Both of those series featured amazing hockey and at some points, truly cinematic hockey theatre. But nope, let's focus all the attention, if unintentionally, on those two scenes where you can see the microphone. The technological changes have been quite interesting to watch and how they are implemented in sports. The NHL was among the first to have video review with it joining the league the same year San Jose did. In the 90s, NHL games we’re likely covered by no more than 6 video cameras with the fixed over-goal cameras being two. Most games were likely covered by 4 cameras. These were also cameras shooting at a maximum of 640x480 at 30fps. Now we are recording with over a dozen cameras for an Arizona vs Florida regular season game at usually 2048x1080 and up to 240fps. I do not agree that replay is ruining sports. I do, however, think Australian rules football is the only sport to have replay done correctly. TRO Edit: I also think removing replay will not cause the whining to stop. You mentioned two incidents everyone is talking about involving San Jose. One was not reviewed and one was. Both are being dissected after the fact. The whining will remain because that's part of being a sports fan. If the refs didn't call that five minute major, we'd be whining about it. They did and everyone else is whining about. And while the five minute major wasn't a technical review, the officials on the ice missed it at first go and after a conference, called a penalty, which is very unusual and uncommon on a play like that. I'm not in favour of removing replay entirely from the game but the way it is being implemented is not working well. That'd be going too far. Two of the biggest problems with replay in the NHL is their duration and reviewing judgement calls, not black and white rules.

taken from the HF boards. Seems pretty relevant. (the last pic I mean!) The fact that the Canadians are Canadians here is fucking great.

I sent him the tweet I posted previously on here with the picture. His response was "By 1 or 2 millimeters". So now it needs to be a specific distance from the line? Does the same apply to a puck cross the goal line?

My 77 year old mom who has been out of the hospital for 5 days for sepsis and a 104 degree temperature asked me at lunch about going to Saturday's game. She is nowhere near 100% yet and there would be no way she could actually make the 6 hour round trip drive or make the walk all the way from the car to her seat. Gotta admire her gumption. She has attended a game before (courtesy of Danville) the night after having a outpatient surgery in Palo Alto. This time I had to be the voice of reason and tell her that there was no way in hell she was going to try and go. Buzzkill...😕

So, what's everyone's thoughts on that? Do you think merely touching the line is tagging up?

The Avalanche should be happy they weren't called for Too Many Men on the ice for that. Refs screw the Sharks again!

Noticed Danville is now 2-0 with game 7 GDTs this spring. Take that, pete DeBoer and tommy ivan. plus he bails out marbles on his game 6 thread debacle.. additionally he promotes beer drinking in general. He can start EVERY fucking GDT in round three far as I’m concerned.. Man. Last night was the debacle. Started with Shiner and BBQ. Continued with IPA and hockey and a VP chatting me up about a job prospect. Ended with folk my age and a lot of tequila at 3am. Just now getting back to somewhat living. Voice shot. Time for a glass of wine pre flight for a change.

Congrats to the Avs for keeping it classy, including the post-series interviews. Huge difference from the garbage knights. Glad the Sharks beat the Avs this year, they probably won't be able to next year. 100% this. In game Pierre interviewed their coach, like minutes after that offsides no goal. Coach was calm and said it sucked but it is what it is and they need to focus on playing the last 13 minites of hockey. It sets a tone for the players, and the fans. Especially for a brand new fan base.

He did tag up but then before the puck crossed the line he brought his skate back into the attacking zone and put himself offside. What does TheSharkHead want? That the rule be changed to not call an offsides if a player is still on the ice not impacting the play? I feel like that would cause a lot of issues and too much grey area n the future. It doesn’t make sense; just get off the fucking ice when you’re supposed to get off the ice. The Avs blew it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #fundamentals

Two of the biggest problems with replay in the NHL is their duration and reviewing judgement calls, not black and white rules. The bitching exists because we have space like this (thanks cjelli) to actually bitch about it. Anyone with MS Paint and a twitter account can be picked up by TSN and suddenly millions hear the musings of one person no one heard of. I do think the best way is to have referees stop looking at tiny video screens. Time limits should also be placed on how long a review can go and the review should be done by referees physically unable to skate at the level needed to work an NHL game. For how interesting things can get, one of my favorite twitter accounts is @offsidemodeling AKA soccer photogrammetry. That account does cool stuff but can go almost to the absurd. TRO

I would hope the league does nothing of the sort. It was a lazy line change. Players need to learn to be accountable and do the right things. Hustle on the ice and hustle off. The Sharks are just as guilty of guys being lazy getting off the ice as anybody else. We tried to make this a point of emphasis in coaching kids. Your "shift" never really ends during a game. You need to be involved and engaged for the entirety of the game, whether you're on the ice or not. Hustling off the ice is just one facet of that. Had Landeskog hustled off, the play would've been onside. The door's location shouldn't be a factor.

Yeah man, it's conclusive. Also, Wilson handled the puck while Landeskog was still exiting, which should also be too many men on the ice. Am I wrong?

[/quote] yea I don’t know what the big deal is, Landiskog is clearly offside, like Cherry said the spare goalie is picking his nose and not watching the gate. Stupid lazy play by Colorado. Correctly called it should have been (1) Offside, (2) goal nullified and (3) 2 minute minor ‘too many men’. No understanding of why some people are whining.
