from Mike Chambers of the Denver Post,
The Avalanche lost superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon to injury early in Game 7 at the SAP Center, and when MacKinnon returned late in the first period against the San Jose Sharks, Colorado trailed by two goals. But the resilient Avs never quit, appeared to tie it 2-2 in the second period and rallied to get within 3-2 in a Western Conference semifinal series-deciding game they can be proud of.
They nearly forced overtime with two tremendous opportunities in the final minutes.
But in the end, the veteran Sharks were inspired by the return of captain Joe Pavelski and used a successful coach’s challenge to negate a Colorado goal and escaped their own building with a 3-2 victory and a trip to the Western Conference final.
“Our season’s over. So it’s tough. We set high expectations for ourselves. and we came up a little bit short,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. “It was a real good series, but they were the better team for two big portions of tonight’s game. And they won, and they deserved to win. I loved our push at the end. We had some chances to tie it, and our guys fought real hard all the way to the end.”
The Avs appeared to score three goals, but only two counted as San Jose’s coach’s challenge negated Colin Wilson’s tally early in the second period that appeared to tie it 2-2.

* Martin Jones (27 saves) improved to 3-0 in three career Game 7s. He became the eighth goaltender in NHL history to earn wins in each of his first three or more career Game 7 appearances.

Noticed Danville is now 2-0 with game 7 GDTs this spring. Take that, pete DeBoer and tommy ivan. plus he bails out marbles on his game 6 thread debacle.. additionally he promotes beer drinking in general. He can start EVERY fucking GDT in round three far as I’m concerned.. I am 4-1 in post season GDTs. So I have that going for me.

I think that's BS. Make sure the refs see both skates out of the zone to be considered clear.

Hate Ed Belfour. Loved when Owen Nolan ran him.

With his skate touching the blue line he's the 6th player on the ice

These idiots must be banned from the SAP Center. Or, better, danvilleshark, call the firing squad:

That the rule be changed to not call an offsides if a player is still on the ice not impacting the play? I feel like that would cause a lot of issues and too much grey area n the future. It doesn’t make sense; just get off the fucking ice when you’re supposed to get off the ice. The Avs blew it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The bigger argument that many sports fans are talking about (John as one example) is replay making the sport better? That is a very legit question.

Bingo. As long as humans are involved in the process, error will exist. Now instead of people talking about the Sharks' amazing comeback against the Knights or a fast and grueling toe-to-toe battle against the Avalanche, we're talking about two plays that have 'decided' both game sevens. It's not good. Both of those series featured amazing hockey and at some points, truly cinematic hockey theatre. But nope, let's focus all the attention, if unintentionally, on those two scenes where you can see the microphone.

It's not good. Both of those series featured amazing hockey and at some points, truly cinematic hockey theatre. But nope, let's focus all the attention, if unintentionally, on those two scenes where you can see the microphone. The technological changes have been quite interesting to watch and how they are implemented in sports. The NHL was among the first to have video review with it joining the league the same year San Jose did. In the 90s, NHL games we’re likely covered by no more than 6 video cameras with the fixed over-goal cameras being two. Most games were likely covered by 4 cameras. These were also cameras shooting at a maximum of 640x480 at 30fps. Now we are recording with over a dozen cameras for an Arizona vs Florida regular season game at usually 2048x1080 and up to 240fps. I do not agree that replay is ruining sports. I do, however, think Australian rules football is the only sport to have replay done correctly. TRO Edit: I also think removing replay will not cause the whining to stop. You mentioned two incidents everyone is talking about involving San Jose. One was not reviewed and one was. Both are being dissected after the fact.

Yeah that and puck over glass penalty in the NHL. That's the dumbest penalty in all of sports. It's almost as absurd as the two line pass was 25 years ago.

4 players are tied for the league lead in playoff scoring. 3 of them are Sharks. 2 Sharks are tied for the league lead in playoff goals scored. A Sharks D man leads the playoffs in assists.

My 77 year old mom who has been out of the hospital for 5 days for sepsis and a 104 degree temperature asked me at lunch about going to Saturday's game. She is nowhere near 100% yet and there would be no way she could actually make the 6 hour round trip drive or make the walk all the way from the car to her seat. Gotta admire her gumption. She has attended a game before (courtesy of Danville) the night after having a outpatient surgery in Palo Alto. This time I had to be the voice of reason and tell her that there was no way in hell she was going to try and go.
