Kane is not the forward we needed. I have no doubt he is banged up I also know Pavs had a finger so badly injured in round one he had surgery when he was down for concussion and he still has more points than Kane in far fewer games.

This is as close as you can get calling out coworkers without blowing guys up. He is absolutely right and I applaud him here.

No, they won't. Not for that reason anyway. Guys have had their throats sliced open and they don't enforce wearing neck guards. Players, not NHL players, have been paralyzed from getting driven headfirst into the boards and they still allow hits from behind. No, it won't be a physical injury. It'll be a financial injury that might trigger some change. The NHL isn't about the game anymore, it's about the bottom line. The league should send out apology letters to all playoff teams before the playoffs start. Vlasic is still waiting for the missed icing call against the Avs & the cross check he took in game 1 that led to a Blues goal. Last night was a joke as well. The "league" will do whatever it believes will benefit the bottom line. Some people absolutely LOVE the WWE. It's a booming business! I'm not one of those people. If the NHL continues on its current path, I'll walk away. I can get my hockey fix elsewhere. I'd rather play or go watch some youth hockey at the local rink.

from Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet,
When Robert Bortuzzo last scored a playoff goal, he was a rookie. In junior hockey.
It was 2007 and Bortuzzo was a lanky 18-year-old when he scored for the Kitchener Rangers in an OHL playoff game. Twelve years later, the 30-year-old St. Louis Blues defenceman can’t remember the goal.
But he’ll never forget the one he scored Monday when, with the San Jose Sharks in a feeding frenzy, he worked a beautiful give-and-go with blue-line partner Joel Edmundson, skated away from 39-year-old Joe Thornton, and buried a backhand top corner to break a 2-2 tie and send St. Louis on to a 4-2 win that evened the Western Conference Final at 1-1.
Bortuzzo, who had played 30 NHL playoff games over eight seasons and never scored. Bortuzzo, who was scratched in half of St. Louis’ first 14 games this Stanley Cup tournament.
Bortuzzo! Bortuzzo! Bortuzzo!
Have you ever seen him score a goal like that?

DeBoer got out coached last night. The Blue's stood up at their blue line 3 across and stopped any entry. They know if the Sharks play dump and chase, that the odds of me winning the lottery are better then any of the Blue's Defenseman getting hit on a dump and chase scenario, very easy for them to retrieve the puck and start the breakout. EK9 is almost non existent. It's my belief that this happens, DeBoer getting outcoached, a lot. He seems incapable of making in-game adjustments. EK9 is a bust. His contract will be a boat anchor. DeBoer should 4th line his ass, see if that wakes him up.

Those hits were a tad high imo... nevertheless, Sorensen has to know better! I missed the first where it sounds likenthe worst stuff happened. With that said, that super weak tripping call that led to LoCo's goal was really bad. Like Sorrenson did everything in his power to avoid a knee on knee, avoid the trip, avoid all contact, but the feet clipped and the dude took a tumble. Weak shit. <iframe width="33.51999999999998" height="5.480000000000018" style="position: absolute; width: 33.51999999999998px; height: 5.480000000000018px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_95966542" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="33.51999999999998" height="5.480000000000018" style="position: absolute; width: 33.52px; height: 5.48px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1606px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_82955364" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="33.51999999999998" height="5.480000000000018" style="position: absolute; width: 33.52px; height: 5.48px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 212px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_90514037" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="33.51999999999998" height="5.480000000000018" style="position: absolute; width: 33.52px; height: 5.48px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1606px; top: 212px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_29974335" scrolling="no"></iframe> I didn't even see their feet clip.

SAN JOSE – Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo was even with center Joe Thornton at the Sharks’ blue line when he suddenly cut toward the goal.
With a surprised Thornton trailing him, Bortuzzo received a pass from Joel Edmundson and lifted a backhand shot past Martin Jones with 3:26 left in the second period, scoring what proved to be the game winner in the Blues’ 4-2 win Monday at the SAP Center that evened the Western Conference final at 1-1.
The playoffs seem to be set up perfectly for the finally healthy 39-year-old Thornton, who could win his first-ever Stanley Cup against the team that traded him to San Jose in 2005, the Boston Bruins. But for that to happen, Thornton and the Sharks can’t afford too many more missteps like the one that led to Bortuzzo’s first-ever playoff goal.
“Just some bad luck right now,” Thornton said. “On the one goal, I came out and bit hard and just couldn’t recover. We’re getting some chances, we’re just not burying them. But we’ve got another level, I think.”
Thornton was also penalized for tripping in the offensive zone with 7:18 left, hampering the Sharks’ comeback effort. He finished with a minus-2 rating Monday night and is a team-worst minus-7 in the playoffs.
After being an asset during the regular season, the third line of Thornton, right wing Kevin Labanc and left wing Marcus Sorensen has just two points in the last seven games (a goal by Labanc off an assist by Thornton in Game 1 against St. Louis).
“They may be not as dominant as they were, but it’s that time of the year,” captain Joe Pavelski said. “You have to play hard, you have to work through things, and we have a lot of confidence in them. It’s why they haven’t been split up or anything like that. We expect they can get the job done.
“It’s one line. We all need to get a little bit better. Tonight wasn’t our best.”
Coach Peter DeBoer refused to single out any one line for criticism, but acknowledged that he needs contributions from more than just Logan Couture, who provided both goals Monday and leads the NHL with 13 goals in the playoffs.
“He’s a complete stud,” Thornton said of Couture. “He’s been carrying this team for a long time now, and a lot of us have to hop on board and start doing our share now too.” As the series moves to St. Louis for Game 3 on Wednesday, Thornton remains confident it will happen.
“This one is behind us,” Thornton said. “Our line played well, probably should have scored a couple but we didn’t. But we’ll bounce back.”

I would be tempted to actually healthy scratch Thornton. He is completely and totally out of gas at this point. Give him a few days to recharge. On the game winning goal he blew all of his energy on the forecheck all by himself in the zone. Then when he went out to Bertuzzo at the point he went right past him and his dead legs couldn't get back into the play.

The Sharks have played many games the past month and maybe Jumbo needs a rest. Two game sevens in a row certainly has not helped.

I thought there was an injury after the Charra fight but then he fights Reaves and if hurt that is just as dumb as dumb gets.

How many games have to be played with no production and bad plays to know when to possibly break up Thorton’s line...

I thought there was an injury after the Charra fight but then he fights Reaves and if hurt that is just as dumb as dumb gets. As I recall even DeBoer came out publicly about Kane saying we don't need him trying to fight Reaves like that. So that comment could easily have come from the fact that he likely re-injured something in that fight. He seems to be skating ok so I am thinking it is likely a wrist injury which would explain why he hasn't been shooting much since the Reaves fight.

Perhaps the worst penalty call I can remember in a playoff game. Edmundson has a bright future ahead of him in soccer.

Kane is fourth among sharks forwards in TOI in the postseason so he is getting his opportunity. He is just above Timo and below Hertl/Logam and Pavs in that order.

So Sharks fans, while we have a day to over think one loss..... Is it better to keep rolling out Jumbo/Kane or let Gambrell have a shot? I have no doubt Kane is badly injured. If/when we find out we will be shocked he played at all just as when Jumbo revealed he played a series on one knee. But is it really better for a team to play guys like this when they are hurting this badly vs a very healthy player that does know your system? Gambrell has only played one game so far.

It would be nice to have Chris Tierney right about now. Or hell lets dig deeper Matt Nieto. After the Sharks game 7 Epic comeback against the Knights, I halfway expected them to be like the 14 Kings team and just roll. Not happening in Teal Town. Nothing easy being a Sharks fan. I have a bad feeling about this series. If only we didn't have to play game 2
