It's never been about how much you spend but rather how you spend. Besides, the owner has more power/responsibility than just signing checks. I've been bitching about the D here for as long as I can remember. Save for a season or two here or there, it has always been wanting. That falls on the GM for having the right players and the coaches for teaching those players to play defense.

Redbeards point is as long as we are turning a profit Hasso doesn't care if we win or lose. I think there are shades of grey there, but we weren't questioning the investment financially.

They have a shitty TV contract they can’t get out of due to previous management. That one hursts the bottom line. Hasso has never been afraid to spend money.

The sharks roster has flaws for sure. You have way too many slow guys and also too many that don’t hit to wear a team down in a somewhat legal way. The sharks looked very good in January. Everyone was healthy and EK65 was on fire. We will never know if the sharks entered the postseason healthy what could have been but we did learn that some guys are flat out useless in the postseason.

Well, I certainly haven't seen anything to suggest otherwise. From this vantage point, Plattner appears to be about as hands off as they come.

GREAT season, saw a few dozen really intense home/playoff games of the highest hockey level in the world. Lot's of great times. Health issues during the marathon caught up to sharks, but overall a good scrappy season. NO room to complain when you're one of only three NHL teams left standing.

Sharks got the benefit of some fortunate calls (or mistakes depending on perspective) in the first 2 series but the Blues got a free pass to hit people in the head. Two different sets of rules for these teams. What frustrates me is the early misses (putting Vegas' dirtbaggery aside) were some what tit for tat - Blown call helps us lose game 2 Blown calls put Vegas up 2-0 in game 7 Maybe slight overreach on call gives Sharks for Game 7 comeback To me - sharks lose that ref battle but we come out on top. Avs series was similar. Ultimately the offsides call was correct. Sure it's weak as fuck and somewhat against thenspirit of heavy competition, but the rules are the rules. Blues series on the other hand... Refs largely put the whistle away and let the Blues target EK65. They are also hitting generally high in games 1 and 2. Missed head shot on Braun (2) Blown call leads to Sharks win in game 2. It was a bad call but after 3 games of let go safety rules I'm not crying about it. Objective fans now see 3 series deciding moments on blown calls for the Sharks. They begin bitching the Sharks have an unfair advantage when so far it's been fairly poorly called both ways. Refs completely bury the whistle for three games. Physical play continues. Head shots continue. Mike Milbury is actively going against Thornton for a slash on the hands but meanwhile Pavs gets concussion #2, Hertl gets concussion #1. EK65 rebreaks his groin (this is not on the refs so much). The complete selling out of player safety to satisfy some fucking fans that are already pissed their team is out is what irks me. Before it was missed calls both ways. In the last 3 games of the series it was a concerted effort to make sure the Sharks don't get any calls that may impact game momentum. That is the ultimate ass fuck from this league and this is what should have Hasso irrate. Anything that Mike Milbury say take it with a grain of salt. The guy just like to flap his gums. My favorite team growing up is the NY Islanders(since 74) and when this idiot became GM he totally screwed that franchise over, Trades Luongo for garbage, then drafts & gives DiPerito a 15 year contract(probably still paying him), trades Chara,Mulcalt & 1st round pick(Turns out to be Spezza) for a softer then soft Yashin & gives him a long term contact(Which they could still be paying) This Guy Milbury is a BOZO

For some reason 2019 always stood out to me as being the - holy shit you are paying that guy until 2019? Or maybe it was 2021. Lol.

At that point after the other ref groups that got "fired" (and they shouldn't have) I don't know if they were scared to make a call (for job security) or if they were told to not make calls. I get it, its playoff hockey, its supposed to be a grind and physical. But you cannot for the sake of safety let those head hits go without consequences. Poor Braun got several in game 4 or 5? (his brain probably a mashed tater) and then Hertl and Pavs. Its just gross negligence on the Department of player safety and the league that let that shit go.

Braun had a few against Vegas too that went uncalled. He is up to like 4 headshots in the past 5 weeks.
