Throwing 8X11 at Karlsson is a big risk but I think if you are Dougie it is a risk you have to take. When his groin was healthy, and he had finally settled into the lineup for that six week period of time in January the Sharks were arguably the best team in the NHL until he got hurt in the Boston game. He was never the same after that. He was playing on one leg in the playoffs and still put up 16 points in 19 games. It is a risk but all the same if Skinner can get 8Y/9M what could Karlsson ask for? This was a forgettable year for Karlsson but he's had many memorable ones. If the Sharks don't pay him someone will and whatever happens to that team is up for debate but there is zero doubt in my mind that the Sharks would've lost big time on their gamble and would be in as bad a position as they were pre-Karlsson, or worse.

It sounds likes the Sharks are offering both coin and term. If he doesn’t accept, it’s because he didn’t want to stay and would prefer to move back somewhere closer to Ottawa.
