At least it's the last year of Paul Martin's buyout. Ugh, I forgot about that

Kane says he wasn't dealing with anything major: "No excuses." I give the guy credit for coming out and saying it. Makes his lack of performance unacceptable.

Karlsson, on San Jose: "I've been treated with nothing but class & respect here. I've seen the best side of what this organization & this city has. I've liked everything that I've seen."
Who is he kidding? He's going back north, closer to his Ottawa home.

In case there was any doubt, Pete DeBoer will be the head coach next season per Doug Wilson
Unless DW gets fired which I highly doubt.

Agree, essentially everyone was banged up. Some certainly more than others. He did not perform to expectations. Hopefully he can change this next time around. Love his game but need more in the postseason.

Lol. This is what I figured. Too bad. Still. I think there are young options in the 2nd line winger category there. I agree with John's take. I think Labanc sinking or swimming with 2nd line defensive responsibility will be huge. And I'd agree that Pavs should really be on line 3 and Thornton almost on line 4. Figure you could then give a couple young guns a shot to play with a hall of famer and see if you strike paydirt like Seto and JR back in the day. The young option may be Kasperi Kapanen or (better) Andreas Johnsson. Give Labanc and Sorensen/Chmelevski?/Chekhovich?/Blichfeld? a 3rd line center like Copp, Paquette or maybe even Scott Laughton. Build the 4th line with Goodrow and the AHL guys.
Playing around with the CapFriendly armchair GM tool, yeah they're going to need a couple of those young guys to step up. Just not enough money to go around. Can Doug Wilson pitch the NHL super team to the likes of Karlsson, Pavs, and Jumbo?

He did not perform to expectations. Hopefully he can change this next time around. Love his game but need more in the postseason. Definitely. Sucks because of how well Couture, Meier, and Hertl played throughout. You kind of figure if they had Kane going too, it may have been the difference between moving on in six, not going out in six. Those are their horses going forward, pretty clearly. Meier earned a big extension and those four are going to be the guys in the next few years. Maybe Labanc adds himself to that mix but we'll see.

It’d be impressive if Doug gets Timo to take a copy of Hertl’s contract. I would bet DW offers EK65 a Burns like contract and EK65 going for an eastern team that offers him 11 mil.
It’s clear Thornton and Pavs are going to be staying, after listening to DW’s interview.

They had the roster to win the big Shiney thing this year if they got the breaks, but they didn’t this year. He is the biggest difference maker front or back that’s available. I hope he really enjoyed this season in San Jose, in spite of his injury struggles.

Signing EK long term when he might turn into a Nathan Horton?...

Signing EK long term when he might turn into a Nathan Horton?... Ya, I don’t want the Sharks to become the Blues. It’s past time to go for it. Horton has a ring and his name on the cup. What’s wrong with that? That’s the one thing I would like to see as a long term Shark fan.

Shit I'd let Karlsson walk and snag Tyle Meyers for 6.5-7million. Simmonds and Hagelin for potential plugs, even though I'm sure both are falling off. There were some other names in the 3-4.5 million category. Pavs is going to need to take a massive cut. Hes a beast but his pace doesn't cut it in the post season. There isn't much of an argument for Pavs to take a massive pay cut. He lead the team in goals scored and had 9 points in 13 games in the playoffs. He was no where near 100% in the St. Louis series. The issue on Pavs will be term because of his age and he isn't getting any faster. My guess is it is going to be like the Marleau negotiations where they want to give him a 2 year deal and other teams are offering a 3+ year deal to get that kind of leadership in their dressing room. Considering the Sharks payed Thornton $5 million this season there isn't a solid argument that your leading goal scorer is worth more than that. I love Pavs and agree my take was draconian. We are in a tough spot where he's producing but his legs and style aren't going to help us long term. We need speed. If he stays he should really be playing line 3 + PP time and at that point I'm not sure you can justify 5-6m.

What’s wrong with that? That’s the one thing I would like to see as a long term Shark fan. You misunderstood. Nathan Horton had a series of bad concussions and injuries, and surgeries, his signing by the BJ was a high-risk one, and he's been on IR lists ever since, only hindering cap management.
