It’d be impressive if Doug gets Timo to take a copy of Hertl’s contract. I would bet DW offers EK65 a Burns like contract and EK65 going for an eastern team that offers him 11 mil. It’s clear Thornton and Pavs are going to be staying, after listening to DW’s interview. Ya, and after that the goal is to sign EK65. They had the roster to win the big Shiney thing this year if they got the breaks, but they didn’t this year. He is the biggest difference maker front or back that’s available. I hope he really enjoyed this season in San Jose, in spite of his injury struggles. Exactly right. If they don't have him, no cup next year. If they do have him healthy, plus healthy Vlassic and Simek, there's a chance.

If he somehow ends up in Vegas, I'm going to go chase cars like a dog on the Freeway!! I'm Fairly confident that won't happen.

Vegas is already over the cap with 4 UFA's and 4 RFA with the biggest RFA being William Karlsson. Vegas has to get rid of some serious cap space just to be able to sign Karlsson. The only way they could get both William Karlsson to re-sign and sign Eric Karlsson would be to get rid of Riley Smith and Marchesault and possibly even more.

I wish I could say it was fun while it lasted but really, it was fun for about six weeks in the middle of the season.
I'll give Karlsson credit though, dude battled in the playoffs.
I know I said when the trade happened that it was good enough so if Karlsson did walk after this year it would still be worth it. I'm less sure of it but I'm still happy Wilson rolled the dice and I don't think having Tierney/DeMelo makes a difference in the playoffs. The picks/prospects would be nice but it likely doesn't dramatically change the outlook of the future.

EK65 100% is a tough as nails hockey player. His production given what he had to battle through was amazing. It just came to the point he could no longer go anymore. Much respect for him and I wish him well here or elsewhere. (unless he goes to Kings/Ducks/Vegas)

If you use it follow Pierre Lebrun, Bob MacKenzie or Darren Dreger. They're always on top of all movements and rumors

Also DW needs to address the backup goaltender position. Nothing personal against Dell, who was ok, but sharks need a more NHL experienced goalie who can push Jones if he again languishes at a .900 SV%. Jones basically offered the starting position to Dell mid-season and didn't prove strong enough to accept it. Never again should the sharks have a team season SV% last in the entire league.
We don't need a big money 'Bobby' goalie, but DW needs someone who can better challenge Jones, who remains safe here primarily because of his fat contract. Couldn’t agree more. Dell needs to go. No reason to keep him. He sucks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The rumor that's out there is Jason Zucker & a D-man going to Pittsburgh for Jack Johnson & Phil Kessel, Kessel is holding up the deal because he's got a NMC

You would hope that someone else from within can step up and replace Dell but it seems Pete has a hard time trusting younger players unless they really jump out. I’m with Nelson in picking up an experienced backup for cheap to push Jones since the Sharks are stuck with him.

More and more it seems like EK65 is outta here for an 11 mil contract. Someone’s going to pay him that, unfortunately. Maybe Doug gets that info from Karlsson and maybe Karlsson gives the go ahead for the rights just to get something out of it.
I don’t think the Sharks are further from the cup without Karlsson. I mean, he definitely was a difference maker but the injured Karlsson might have had an equally negative impact?
A lot of hope is being put on Simek. I hope he doesn’t regress similar to Hertl after his injury.
With Karlsson out, something has to happen with the forward corps. Idk what and I’m glad I’m no a GM because that seems like a tough problem to solve. DW’s track record of getting good bottom line forwards isn’t great.
Ok so maybe their cup chances are worse without EK65...

EK65 is chasing the big payday. That was his mindset when he got traded and still is. It’s an enormous gamble to win the bid war because I don’t see him taking any kind of discount. Regardless that he could have a ring if he hadn’t fucked up his own injury issues. And he may never play a fully healthy season again. Pavs and Jumbo will definitely take contracts below market and they will still be higher than we hope. Thankfully there is plenty of salary on the team that is movable and expendable. Kane is still adjusting to being on a real team and getting his mind right. He should have been up there with our other impact forwards but I’m not giving up yet. Young I think the other thing to consider on Kane is the mental state after the miscarriage. Who knows if that was still effecting him this spring. Terrible all around and I'd hope he can bounce back next season.

BTW, by all counts Jacob Middleton should be capable of at least leapfrogging Ryan and Heed. Funny because his shit play and forcung Deboerre to skate Karlsson for 36 minutes against Tampa is probably what broke his balls in the first place.

I would prefer to keep Karlsson but if he is going to bail I just want it to be to an Eastern Conference team. If you want to see a team in trouble with the cap take a look at Vegas. They are already over the cap with only 19 players under contract. They have 4 UFAs and 4 RFAs. Their big problem is William Karlsson is a RFA. www.capfriendly.com/teams/goldenknightsFuck em. Maybe offer sheet wild bill for 5.5 million. Then tell McPhee to go whine to the league for more compensation BJs.

I think that Toronto is looking to move Nikita Zaitsev's contract. Maybe trade Braun and Melker Karlsson for Andreas Johnsson and Zaitsev?
I think the 2 big offensive back end guys actually cannibalized their own production. I'd say you want to have at least 2 other puck movers back there but they don't need to be world class goal scorers. Mainly we need to figure out two solid back lines for the PP (preferably not by skating 4 forwards on both units) and ideally have 3 pairs that can all fuel transition or decent neutral zone play which is always the trademark of sharks faceplants in May (the lack of - that is).

Without EK65 we still had a lights out record because Simek at least slotted everyone in to a proper spot. With EK65 and Simek we would have dispatched round 1 and 2 a bit cleaner and should have taken round 3 (basically you actually have a 3rd pair you can skate and rest pairs 1 and 2 a bit more). To that extent, I also see hope in a roster without EK65 though we likely end up with Heed and no great depth if he goes down

The drop off from Burns to the next guy, would be Vlasic, is too steep. Before Karlsson teams just keyed on Burns and it hurt. We saw against Vegas first time around. Without Karlsson, I'm not sure they get past them this time. Unless DeBoer goes and the formula changes, the team is too dependent on offense from the blueline. They don't need Karlsson but I think they need a guy who's more bent toward putting the puck in the net than the current collection they have after Burns. Much easier said than done but at least they have a couple guys in the system who fit that mold; Roy, Merkley, and Ferraro.

I agree overall but hope PD can game plan a way to tilt Burns, and EK if he stays, to at least a semblance of defensive zone responsibility depending on the situation/opponent. It seemed they did that in the AV’s series at times and the balance worked well. Then against the Blues, when they got into tough situations they reverted/panicked and the D zone turnovers and odd man rushes started to multiply and it killed them at times

The two biggest bright spots for the sharks this post season were Logan and Burns. Burns laid down the biggest hits including a couple of clean ones that took guys out of games. He is a beast and very durable. You need this in the postseason. Logan went on a goal scoring tear and would have been CS winner of more guys stepped up.
