Blues then resign Faulk, 7Y/6.5M. wow, I thought Joel edmundson was stellar in the STL/SJS playoff WCFs last spring. a big body defenseman that fit perfectly into St Louis' playoff winning style. Now they go another direction with Faulk, a much smaller type which seems to show Blues want to go another direction right after winning cup. Is Faluk really even that good? A blueliner who is minus 100 in 559 career games with the Canes. Very thick contract too. If I were a Blues Fan, I'm not thrilled by this.

Was this past Saturday's pre-season game a sneak peek for the season? MA Fleury - 60 minutes, 1 GA, 29 SA, 28 SV, .966 M Jones - 60 minutes, 3 GA 29 SA, 26 SV, .896 Friends (scouts) attending told me bottom line Fleury stopped the puck, Jones did not. Jones looked particularily bad on the first goal, flopping around. Like last season. I'm not going to have much paitence with Shark goaltending this season. Jones probably our new whipping boy now that Braun packed for Philly. We're weak in goal. STOP the Fkn Puck, Jones!! 1st goal - giveaway, odd-man rush, actually did stop the shooter, but the defense was nowhere to clean the rebound in front of the goal
2nd goal - giveaway, left one of the better scorers in the league in the slot with all time in the world for a wrist shot 3rd goal - odd-man rush on the powerplay and a short-side snipe.
Defence didn't show up on any of the three, not dissimilar to the last season.
Nellie's "scouts" have only one criteria for judging a goaltender's play. Was the puck kept out of the net or not. The actions of, or lack thereof, the skaters in front of the goalie are completely immaterial. Classic KISS principle...

Having to suffer through the Ducks crew last night, I swear they said their team is great and firing on all cylinders! Well I mean I can't argue since the Sharks looked like somebody pooped on them!

On the latest Bruins Beat on CLNS Media, host Evan Marinofsky spoke with John Buccigross, SportsCenter anchor on ESPN who also does play-by-play for the network’s college hockey games, about the future of NHL national broadcasting.
Near the end of the podcast, Marinofsky asked Buccigross, who has been working at ESPN with hockey as his bread and butter since 1996, what he thinks the future of hockey at ESPN looks like.
Buccigross says it’s nearly impossible to predict.
With the current US TV rights contract between the NHL and NBC ending in 2021-2022, formal discussions and negotiations can begin next year around who the NHL will work with next. Buccigross pointed out there are more possibilities than one might think.
“It’s hard to say,” Buccigross said about where TV rights will go. “So anybody out there, whether you’re a TV network like ESPN or FOX, or [even] Apple or Google or Amazon; if they want to get in the game—I mean, let’s face it, those guys could buy the rights for every sport. So you just don’t know.”
The league could also look to do a deal with multiple networks, like the NFL, MLB, and NBA. WHatever route the league chooses, Buccigross “certainly hope ESPN gets a piece.
“The world is changing fast with streaming. Now, when you’re the NHL, you want to balance maximizing money, but you also still want distribution. The [league] will need to be convinced there’ll be similar distribution,” Buccigross said.
He also acknowledged that those streaming giants like Amazon and Apple would have to build a system for coverage from scratch, and it is no walk in the park to cover all the games in one season or staff all the workers, but it still could be a possibility where there’s profit to be made.
“I’d love to stay with the company long term,” Buccigross said. “To shift from doing SportsCenter to doing play by play and certainly hockey would be my preference, so I’ll be watching this time next year when it really starts to heat up and the reports start coming out, and suddenly we have a decision when the NHL decides who they’re gonna go with. That really is going to affect a lot of lives.”

Big Exhibition game in Northern Michigan tomorrow night between the Red Wings/Blues. The Cup is also up there. First NHL level game at this 110 year old rink that I played High School hockey in. It's a very big deal up there. Jeremy Roenick has arrived by dog sled and will be the MC in town for the 3 day event, game will be televised on NBCSN tomorrow at 4p Pacific time. It's probably a 6 hour bus ride for the teams to get up into that far corner of the USA... Let's go Copper Kings! www.nhl.com/news/kraft-hockeyville-hub-calumet-michigan-usa/c-309393746?tid=280033638

It's hard to read the squad from these preseason games. On the one hand, we are clearly icing 95% AHL squads pretty deep into the exhibition period, so tanking games is less the point.
On the other hand, we are going to need probably 3 strong forwards out of this group + maybe 1 d man. And we need the goaltenders to improve. So getting dropped by what also appears to be a Ducks bench squad (maybe 4 regulars though acknowledge Fowler was playing) is not exactly inspiring.

Goodnight Irene on PP2. I guess at least Heed has a Bomb, but that's going to be pretty obvious with half board Joe going to the right point over and over again.
