No work! Laptop stays at home. First stop, Munich. Staying within stumbling distance of Oktoberfest. I sure hope no beer is spilled. Well, maybe a little would be acceptable...

Is this a work trip? Because if so I have it on good authority that 1 free Friday night in Germany is all the time you need to get into the best type of trouble.. A sunday afternoon or monday AM on top of that (it was unification day) helps too. No work! Laptop stays at home. First stop, Munich. Staying within stumbling distance of Oktoberfest. Even better.

FYI Sharks beat Flames in SJ last night, 4-1. Goals by Gambrell (2) Kane and Hertl. Burns with 4 assists. Jones stops 24 of 25 for a .960 last night. Nice.
This has been a strong thread but almost time to retire it. Home opener against Vegas just a week from today. as Marvin Gaye would say, Let's get it on baby!

Was last night a more complete NHL roster? And was Calgary similar? Seems we are late in preseason so both should be icing mostly finished rosters but you never know. Glad we at least didn't get swept. Now onto the real season.

from Chris Thomas of the Detroit Free Press,
Nick Polano, the former Detroit Red Wings coach and front-office executive who drafted Steve Yzerman and participated in the covert missions that brought Sergei Fedorov and Vladimir Konstantinov to Detroit, died on Thursday after battling Alzheimer's disease. He was 78.
Polano was the first coaching hire made by Mike Ilitch, the late Red Wings owner who bought the team in 1982. Polano coached for three seasons, through 1984-85, before transitioning into the front office as assistant general manager.

What a great venue. I can picture Nellie starting the rush from behind the net. Much better than Sharks/Kings at Levi. You can picture Nellie doing that? Did you drop some acid today?😝 Yea? When Real Madrid plays Barcelona on your old dirt soccer field in Campbell, let me know, pal. That was the biggest deal in 20 years for the UP. Got tons of messages this weekend. Yea lived there; played HS hockey in that barn, only had 3 'real' goals in the Colosseum. After my first, I did a frozen 'Superman' statue pose instead of regular celebration (big movie back in '78), coach benched me next game for 'hotdogging', but the Senior girls up on that end balcony thought it was hot. Ha! They clearly aded more lights, it's a 106 year old community center that includes a rink. NBC did a solid job with the broadcast. Best 'Hockeyville' yet by far. .

MONTREAL - At the request of Guy Lafleur's family, the Montreal Canadiens have released the following update on his health status. "Guy Lafleur underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery earlier this morning at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM). This procedure was necessary after a routine examination detected a cardiac issue. The operation was successful, and doctors predict a full recovery after several months of convalescence. The family wishes to thank the entire medical team, as well as the personnel at the CHUM, and will not issue any further comment." Lafeur was a serious chain smoker, all those frenchies were. Got his autograph back when I was 12, still recall Guy had a cigarette in his mouth as he scribbled his name on my program. Get well soon, flying frenchman!

Sharks playing like their drunk and VGK fans acting like it's playoffs.
Pretty up tempo all around though, Kane's been playing like a prick and got into it with Valentin Zykov. They just fought, nothing special but Zykov didn't throw a punch.
