Carolina Hurricanes goaltenders Petr Mrazek and Curtis McElhinney are both likely to hit the free agent market.
"We're trying to sign them, but it doesn't look like we're going to get either signed," GM Don Waddell told NHL.com. "So, if not, we'll go to the market and see what's out there for July 1."

Hopefully, the next lockout kills the NHL once and for all. Time for a reset...

And screw Patty Marleau as well. What a pussy, begging to play with only the sharks again. DW has a NHL team to run, this ain’t no nostalgia circus in SJ. I could not agree more on Marleau. He’s the last player we need chewing up any piece of cap space. He is the face of the soft Sharks.

look I liked Marleau when you were here, but that shipped has sailed man! You can always retire as a Shark no problem. But you coming back, nah, I'm good. Gotta get younger and faster not slower and wimpier! Agree overall...but PM would make the Sharks faster, not slower.

The old ones here know I’m a HUGE Marleau fan but I have to agree, time is running out and he’s the last thing the Sharks need.
There’s just no room for him, his style of play and his age. Retire a Shark but otherwise, HARD PASS.

I do find it ironic that Marleau left the Sharks because they wouldn't offer him a third year and now that he is hitting his third year in Toronto they don't want him and he wants to come back to the Sharks. The only way this would work for the Sharks is if he would play for the veteran minimum and even at that point I don't see it happening.

No need to bring Marleau back unless they can ply another asset out of Toronto.
He was my favourite player so I wouldn't hate it but it doesn't make much sense.

Karlsson or Sorensen could easily be swapped for a pick, probably Goodrow and Radil too.

Another old Marleau fan here... This “only want to go to SJ” request seems seems so narrow and, combined with selling Toronto home, makes me wonder if it’s being driven by some health issue in the family...?

If* (the stars would have to align big time) Patty can join the sharks for a league minimum (after buyout or similar scenario), and we have have the injuries from last season, a healthy Karl for the season... How could the hockey gods say no to Patty and in all likelihood Jumbo as well, in their swan song... let them hoist the cup.
Granted a Ehlers situation on the sharks looks aw-fly tempting as well.

Yeah but if Marleau has a NTC or NMC and doesn't want to go to New Jersey (only SJ as is reported) what does it matter?

Let him fill out his contract in Toronto or retire. I know I've moved on That is probably the best way to put it. 15M or so left for Pavelski, Meier, Labanc, and Jumbo. Not much. And they could still upgrade their depth if they get creative or let one or more of those guys walk away. Marleau isn't a topic at this point in the story. Too much been written about him already.

We don’t want to see Marleau playing in a Sharks jersey anymore, we just want to remember how it used to be. The Marleau of years past is gone, we need to get younger.

How different the off season this time around would be if the five minute major was not called?
