I signed up with Comcast yesterday then I get a email from Direct TV at 4 this morning stating I'm now on a two year contract. When I talked to them Tuesday morning they said I had no contract and I would be able to cancel my service at any time. WTF

Getting pretty damn close to making the same call. The only reason I haven't already is my wife had a bad experience with Comcast many years ago (but who hasn't?). I signed up with Comcast yesterday then I get a email from Direct TV at 4 this morning stating I'm now on a two year contract. When I talked to them Tuesday morning they said I had no contract and I would be able to cancel my service at any time. WTF You can send a complaint to Randall Stephenson, the CEO, at rs2982@att.com and they will call from the executive office you the next day to iron things out. Mention that if they ignore you, you'll file a complaint with FCC.

Comcast is coming Tuesday morning to change out the service. i figured I would call AT&T next Thursday and cancel them. If they try to make me pay a cancellation fee I'll send him a email. Thanks for the info

Every couple of years I would call and threaten to leave and they would extend the introductory price another 2 years. It was routine. The last time I called I got a real asshole of an operator. I told him "Listen, I don't know if you are new or what but they always extend this deal another two years. I have done this 5 times already." The guy says "Sir, we have never offered to extend the introductory offer. We will not be doing so." I started to get pissed and said "Listen, I am not going to pay what you guys are wanting to charge for cable." The guys response was " You don't have any choice in the matter. You will pay what we tell you to pay." I laughed and told him the next call I make to your company will be to cancel service. I called U-verse the next day and got it all set up. Once it was up and running I canceled Direct. Like 2 weeks later they actually called me and offered to extend the introductory price another 2 years. I laughed at the lady and told her it was too late and then went through what my last phone call had involved. The lady actually gasped when I told her the "You will pay what we tell you to pay." She apologized and said she could see in the notes who the operator was and was going to flag the conversation for a review by a supervisor. I hope that fucker got fired. Then a year or two later U-Verse and AT&T bought Direct TV.

Thanks for the info You can also block any charges on your credit card from ATT/Directv so they can’t collect the contract cancelation fee. I did that a few years back when they tried to hold me to a contract even though they didn’t provide the promised services. When I first called my credit card company to block ATT/DTV they said they couldn’t do that...so I told them I was canceling my credit card immediately...they then said they’d block the charges

WTF Active shooter at the Gilroy Garlic Festival Do they not do any kind of screening before going into that place? Metal detectors? Wands? Anything? You can't go into the Fresno Fair without getting wanded and there are usually 4-5 Fresno PD officers at each entrance.

U-Verse update. I have had to reboot our router 4 times over the weekend. Land line phone isn't working because it uses the internet to connect. Our in home Wifi is off and on and when it is working it doesn't work for shit. Can take 4-5 minutes to load my email. Our television downstairs uses a wireless connection so it has been off and on all weekend as well. Literally spent 2 hours on the phone with technical support over the weekend. One hour on my wife's birthday.
Oh, and to top it off, the tech support person I spoke with a week ago who said they would be sending out new wireless boxes never actually sent them. So that was an hour on the phone wasted as well.
I have my wife just about convinced to switch to Comcast. Her brother lives out by us and has it. Says the internet is lightning fast but their customer service is shit. My response was "Well it's not like AT&T has been giving us great customer service right now."
