Wow, and it comes on Veteran’s / Remembrance Day. He really went overboard Saturday night. I'm surprised they waited till today You knew in the new era we are living in his mouth was going to get him sooner or later.

Never liked his show...this is probably the first time I agreed with him.

Last time I watched Coach's Corner it was pretty clear Grapes' performance was slipping, as can be expected. I always thought his 'scandals' were blown out of proportion but in this day and age, it isn't surprising that he put himself in a position to get fired. A position the CBC has probably wanted for a long time now.
I'm not upset about it at all but I really can't wait to see the new, bland, lifeless, same-as-every-other, stupid, intermission show they replace Coach's Corner with, I'm really interested to see what they do.

Oh the times, they are a changin.. Donnie played for the 1954-55 Hershey Bears and had 125 PIMs in 63 games. LOL. Only played one game in the show over a 17 year pro career. He fought hard to find his milk & honey. So who's the 'old guard' of NHL hockey now, Gary Bettman?

I think you nailed it with CBC. That said, it was always an entertaining 10 minutes to watch when I was bored during the season. Yes, he was slipping, but I still tried to watch every week.

It’ll be interesting to see what eventually replaces Coaches Corner.

I always enjoyed Coaches Corner. You don't see a hockey segment like that in the States Me as well. Last few years Cherry would go off on rants like a senile old man, but a lot of what he said was still relevant in today's game. Now the question is: Are his comments untrue? Or did CBC just use them to get rid of him while we are in this polarizing era of political correctness? I do find it appalling he is being fired for sticking up for the military.

Read below how the so called reporter injects his opinion into the story: Note that liberal views offered in sports entertainment are well regarded. Yahoo Sports Canada Arun SrinivasanContributor Sportsnet dismissed hockey commentator Don Cherry after anti-immigrant comments during Saturday’s broadcast. Cherry sneered at Toronto and its surrounding communities for not purchasing poppies ahead of Remembrance Day, snarling at “you people” in an unprompted, unprovoked rant on Coach’s Corner. The 85-year-old spoke to the Toronto Sun’s Joe Warmington, where he was fiercely unapologetic about his comments. “I have just learned I’ve been fired by Sportsnet for comments made on Coach’s Corner Nov. 9,” Cherry said. “No problem. “I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers.” Cherry has been a national institution for decades, hosting Coach’s Corner alongside Ron MacLean since 1986. He made his pro-military stance clear throughout the interview with Warmington, while refusing to address immigrants that were disturbed by his rant. “I speak the truth and I walk the walk,” Cherry said. “I have visited the bases of the troops, been to Afghanistan with our brave soldiers at Christmas, been to cemeteries of our fallen around the world and honoured our fallen troops on Coach’s Corner.” Sportsnet released a statement Sunday, saying the network had spoke to Cherry about his remarks. The network released another ineffectual statement on Monday upon Cherry's dismissal. Cherry believed that being a decent human being that avoided bigotry on the air somehow equated to censorship. “To keep my job, I cannot be turned into a tamed robot,” Cherry said. The broadcaster did leave a message for his fans, some of whom are apparently outraged that bigotry no longer is acceptable by a major broadcasting partner. “I want to thank everyone who has watched Coach’s Corner over the last 35 years,” Cherry said. “Remember to wear your poppy to honour our fallen soldiers … Thumbs up.” Comment section not having it: www.yahoo.com/sports/news/don-cherry-addresses-firing-i-speak-the-truth-and-i-walk-the-walk-210454669.htmlhockey_guy_40483 hours ago In defence of Cherry, photographer Veronica Henri noted that her research into how many in the Toronto community were wearing the commemorative poppy were sad, as only about 10 percent of individuals in the downtown Toronto area were seen wearing it. So, Cherry's observations were accurate? So, Cherry spoke the truth? So, Cherry got fired for making a factual statement?

Its getting so bad that you are unable to criticize anyone for anything. I want to know what part of his remarks can be construed as bigotry?

There are plenty of calls on Twitter to replace Cherry with a former member of the Canadian ... women hockey team.
I want that to happen, the ratings will tank, and Rogers will be in a lock: they can't cancel a hockey show with a woman, and they can't afford to run a hockey show with a woman.

Although I can understand Cherry being fired if Rogers does go in that direction they'll be commiting Hockey suicide. There's one (Ray Ferraro) maybe two guys that can replace Cherry but I don't see them keeping Coaches Corner around past this season.

While I agree with this pick, I'd also like to see Roy come back to the big show to coach. Possibly even the sharks if/when Pete gets released. Inspired passion is something this team could use a shot of. Imagine one step further a add R. Clowe as an assistant. Maybe that is too much passion for one team lmao.

Goalie talk tonight could be interesting.
via a received email...
As scoring continues to increase in the NHL, NHL Network’s Tony Luftman will moderate a roundtable discussion with former goalies and NHL Network analysts Darren Pang and Kevin Weekes, and former goalie Martin Biron on the evolution of goaltending and how important the position is to the overall success a team. NHL Network Roundtable: The Modern Age Goalie will debut tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The panel will discuss how goalies stay strong mentally when their play is inconsistent and the steps they take to regain their confidence. Biron, Pang and Weekes will share anecdotes from their combined 23 seasons playing in the NHL, including the best advice they received about playing the position, how they worked on areas of their game that needed improvement and who had the biggest impact on their success
