from Rob Rossi of The Athletic,
Sidney Crosby is evaluating all treatment options for a sports hernia, multiple NHL and Penguins sources confirmed to The Athletic.
Crosby aggravated the sports hernia Saturday night at PPG Paints Arena, but sources say the Penguins captain has been dealing with the injury since training camp. He opted against surgery when the Penguins lost multiple forwards, including Evgeni Malkin, to various injuries early in October.
Crosby is now weighing the opinions of medical personnel whether he should undergo surgery, which would typically require a 4-6 week recovery, the sources said.

I think Clowe is prohibited even from coaching due to concussion symptoms. He stepped down from the ECHL team mid-season a year ago. Ya I haven't heard anything about him since he stepped down. Sad and I hope he makes a comeback. He did an interview with Spittin' Chiclets a few months ago or so. Had some good stories and explained his decision to step down.

1. Wanted to get to Los Angeles and Ilya Kovalchuk next. GM Rob Blake and JP Barry, who represents the Russian veteran, declined to comment in the process of reporting on this, but prior to last night’s 3-1 victory over Minnesota, Blake threw some cold water on the idea that Kovalchuk was done playing for them. He’s never lied to me about anything, so I wanted to throw everything out there. According to multiple sources, the Kings met with Kovalchuk Tuesday morning and told him they were going to remove him from the lineup. He left the arena and did not take the morning skate. There were several options that came up, including: working on a trade; leaving the team; staying until his bonus is paid in December, then leaving; mutually terminate (although I can’t imagine Kovalchuk walking away from the money unless it is coming from somewhere else); and, apparently, some pushback that he shouldn’t be forced to leave if he doesn’t want to.
During Blake’s availability, he repeatedly referred to Kovalchuk as “a healthy scratch.” Asked specifically if the winger could dress Thursday against Detroit, the GM replied, “Yeah, he’s a healthy scratch. I don’t know – there’s not much else I can say.” (Thank you to Jon Rosen for the transcript.) Post-game, head coach Todd McLellan added, “Just like the rest of the players, he’ll get his opportunity to come back in. We have to treat him like any other player.”
Captain Anze Kopitar: “Obviously not a great situation. (Kovalchuk) is a good guy. There’s nothing that’s wrong with the attitude or anything…. It’s just for whatever reason, it’s not working on the ice, and that’s about all I can say.”
So, there are a few moving parts.
2. The Kings have tried to move Kovalchuk for awhile, so they know the market. Maybe it gets easier after the December bonus, as his salary for the remainder of the season is a pro-rated $700,000. Maybe it gets easier in the summer, when he’s heading into the last year of his contract at a bonus-free $4.25 million for a club needing to get to the floor. Who knows? Because he signed as a 35-plus contract, the hit stays on the cap of whoever owns his rights until the end of next season. Even if he decides to play in Russia, it sticks. “He could get abducted and probed by aliens….still counts,” texted one helpful capologist.
3. The Kings mean business. Tyler Toffoli was scratched, then Kovalchuk. They later put Toffoli on the top line to showcase him, but, as they train their next generation, they’re demanding a high standard. He’s not going to be the last big-name benching.

from the CP at Sportsnet,
A charge of disorderly conduct and disruptive behaviour against Toronto Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews has been dismissed in his hometown of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Court records show the charge was dropped on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the City of Scottsdale confirmed the parties reached a settlement.
"I just want to reiterate again just how sorry I am for my actions, my behaviour," Matthews said Friday.

from Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic,
The hockey world watched Calvert take a shot off the back of his head seconds before the Vancouver Canucks scored a goal.
But the Colorado Avalanche saw something else. They watched another teammate laying on the ice, bleeding – again – after being hit in the head with the puck while play was allowed to continue. They viewed what happened to Calvert as a player safety issue and one that should have resulted in the game immediately stopping so a player could receive immediate medical attention.
Escaping Rogers Arena with a 5-4 overtime win Saturday did not matter because all they could think about was Calvert.
“It’s a *#$%@& joke man and I’ve talked about it already,” said Avalanche alternate captain and defenseman Erik Johnson, who was referencing a postgame radio interview he gave with the team’s flagship station that also needed to be censored on a seven-second tape delay. “Like, you want to protect a guy? The guy’s got a family at home. He’s laying there bleeding out of his head and they don’t blow the *#$%@& whistle? It’s a complete joke. It’s an absolute joke and they should be ashamed of themselves.”

The Maple Leafs must be losing again because the natives are getting restless
from Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun, As for him (Babcock) paying the price for his worst start since the first years of the Shanaplan, U.S. Thanksgiving is often the time when clubs look to make a major change. This six-game trip could be ideal camouflage, once Monday’s Hall Of Fame induction is done. The last three Leafs coaches fired in mid-season — Randy Carlyle, Ron Wilson and Pat Burns — were all turfed on the road, But letting a 700-win coach go when the team is just two or three points out of a playoff spot in mid-November seems a tad reactionary, never mind the severance cheque MLSE would have to cut the $50-million man barely halfway through his contract. General manager Kyle Dubas and club president Brendan Shanahan must also acknowledge a few things: * The GM just gave a state of the union address last week that focused on patience.

from Chris Johnston of Sportsnet,
With general managers set to meet Tuesday afternoon in Toronto, there are a couple notable proposals pertaining to offsides on the table.
One has been discussed in the past and would see the blue line treated as a plane when a linesman makes an offside call. This would allow a player with a skate not in contact with the ice to be judged onside, assuming his foot has not completely broken the plane of the leading edge of the blue line.
Some GMs believe that call is simply too hard for an official to make in real-time.
Another proposal would see linesmen told to err on the side of calling close plays onside because the defending team has the right to challenge using video review in cases where a goal is scored.
That would improve game flow and keep quality scoring chances from being broken up in situations where the wrong call is made.
The November GMs meeting tends to be more of a housekeeping session and lasts just a few hours. The managers meet for three days every March and that’s where rule change proposals are usually hammered out.
Other items on Tuesday’s agenda include: Discussions on scheduling and the involvement of series supervisors in pre-game meetings during the playoffs; updates on player and puck tracking; the Seattle expansion draft; and a report on new rules and officiating.

Where was this when Sundqvist, Barabshev, and the rest did this kind of thing and worse in the WCF? Ah well. I still wish Haley just suckered Pietrangelo better.
