I completely understand there is a rule that says you basically cant touch goalies anywhere on the ice...but I hate that rule. If goalies leave the crease to play the puck, they should be fair game to hit like anyone else.

The league was lenient with the punishment because Gibson was hurt. The hurt shouldn't matter much.

Hathaway got ejected for spitting tonight. Wonder if the NHL will suspend him or put him ‘on notice’ like someone else did when he licked a guy. I have absolute faith the league will be fair and impartial in its decision.

Maybe others disagree but they’re both disgusting and have no place on the ice.

If someone gave that POS Marchand a good old fashioned beatdown his BS would stop quick.

Nothing wrong with the Leipsic hit and nothing wrong with the Ducks being mad about and standing up for their guy (well, maybe Gibson minded), but it's interesting how tough everyone gets when Wilson isn't on the ice eh? The Sportsnet talk guys did a pretty brutal overview of this, I was going to post the video but I really don't want anyone to watch it.

Hathaway gets three games for spitting on Gudbranson.
Right call, but the joke lies in the NHL not suspending Marchand for licking a man’s face, once again proving the double-standard for star players and just how cozy the league is with the Bruins and Jacobs family. I’m sure the media will point it out... not.

I’m sure the media will point it out... not. TORONTO (November 20, 2019) – Washington Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway has been suspended for three games, without pay, for a spitting incident involving Anaheim defenseman Erik Gudbranson during NHL Game No. 316 in Washington on Monday, Nov. 18, the National Hockey League announced today. The incident occurred at 19:26 of the second period. Hathaway was assessed a match penalty. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Hathaway will forfeit $24,193.53. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Can’t wait for all the stories to come out now. Clearly he wasn’t getting through to the team, they’re a fun group and really doesn’t look like they want to do hockey his way.
Some GMs are probably really thinking about canning their coach tonight.

I wouldn’t personally be opposed to DW removing DeBoer to get Babcock but the shine was really worn off Babcock for me like a lot of others. Zero playoffs series won since 2013. And you thought the 2016 run to the finals was a long time ago.
But that’d be the type of cutthroat, take no prisoner, mentality to do it now. Timing is off for DW to do it comfortably, you know, his way. But maybe in a week or so...

Any word on Hertl? I dont totally buy this:
Hertl took an awkward fall late in the third period of Tuesday's game versus the Oilers, Sharks beat writer Sheng Peng reports.
Hertl got tangled up with an Oiler late in the contest and went to the locker room. He has recently dealt with a minor knee issue, so it's concerning to see Hertl be forced to leave early for any reason. After the game, Peng relayed that Hertl said he was fine. Consider the Czech forward day-to-day currently, but it sounds like he should be good to go Thursday against the Golden Knights.

Understood?

from Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun,
The National Hockey League Players’ Association, on behalf of Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien, has filed a grievance against the NHL challenging his suspension from the team.
A source confirmed the news of the filing to the Winnipeg Sun on Wednesday. The NHLPA had a 60-day period in which to file the grievance. Byfuglien was suspended on Sept. 21, meaning the final day to do so would have been Wednesday.
But a source said the deadline was “debatable” but that it was “important” that the union filed today to avoid the debatable part entirely.

from Sportsnet,
Last Saturday night in a game between Colorado and Vancouver, the Canucks trailed by two with less than three minutes to go in the third period. Pressing with the goalie pulled, they scored to pull to within one and eventually tied it to send the game to overtime.
But the comeback wasn’t without controversy.
The goal that pulled Vancouver to within one came as Colorado’s Matt Calvert lay on the ice in distress. A shot from Elias Pettersson hit Calvert in the head, leaving him bleeding, but because the Avs didn’t get control of the puck and the Canucks were pressuring the offensive zone, the whistle wasn’t blown.
This didn’t sit well with Nathan MacKinnon.
“I don’t think it’s right,” MacKinnon said. “Even Pettersson was looking at Calvy and you could tell he was wondering if he was OK, which was very classy by him. It’s not the Canucks’ fault. It’s not the refs’ fault. It’s just a league rule. The refs, they wanted to blow it. It’s just silly they can’t.

from TSN,
Buffalo Sabres general manager Jason Botterill stated earlier this week that he was “actively looking” for forward help to spark his slumping team, but according TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, it's not easy to maneuver in the trade market at the moment.
"It's a moving target," Dreger said on Insider Trading Thursday. "Jason Botterill, the general manager of the Buffalo Sabres, has, in fact, made offers on forwards but the system is gummed up a little bit – the financial system of the National Hockey League. There are so many teams, 10-plus teams, who are working with LTIR players and that can get very, very problematic.
"There are some out there that believe that Botterill is feeling a sense of urgency and he'd like to make at least one, maybe even two, trades in the next week to two weeks. But he's got to find the right fit and the right match."
Including the Sabres, 11 teams - the Toronto Maple Leafs, Arizona Coyotes, Boston Bruins, Sabres, Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings - currently have players on long-term injured reserve providing cap relief, according to CapFriendly.

Two of the true tough, physical, take-no-crap, players left in the league. Love seeing a good scrap from two guys like this.
