LOL, hot-shot summer UFA goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is .869 in FLA after 8 starts. 3.87 GAA. Guess he left his bag of magic back in Columbus?

ST. LOUIS - Vladimir Tarasenko will undergo surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday and will be re-evaluated in five months.
Tarasenko had points in five straight contests before leaving the Oct. 24 game vs. Los Angeles in the first period with the injury after playing just four minutes and 37 seconds. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve.
Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong will address the media about the injury on Tuesday at the team's practice facility.
In 10 games this season, Tarasenko had posted three goals and seven assists.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has been caught up in a cryptocurrency scam, losing his $4 million investment and possibly facing legal ramifications, per Aivis Kalninš.
Malkin was a co-founder of Mark.Space, a company where he was listed as an “American Investor”. At some point Malkin became an American citizen and his lawyer confirmed that Malkin holds an American passport.
Malkin wasn’t involved in the day-to-day operations, but did sign most major legal documents related to the scam.

Nashville, Tenn. (October 29, 2019) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced Tuesday that the team has signed defenseman Roman Josi to an eight-year, $72.472 million contract that will keep the Preds Captain in Nashville through the 2027-28 season. from Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times,
First, comparing salaries of top athletes in every sport isn’t all that helpful. Just because the top 5% of elite players in one league make more than those in another doesn’t mean the same is true for the remaining 95%.
That’s also why comparing average salaries isn’t always best — those again being skewed by extreme highs or lows. Looking at Statista.com, the average salaries in the 2017-18 season had the NBA at $7.7 million, MLB at $4.51 million, the NFL at $2.91 million and NHL at $2.78 million, which, mind you, isn’t all that big a difference for three of the four leagues.
But when using what’s widely considered the most impartial measurement for comparing leagues — the “median” or “middle” salaries — MLB drops to No. 4 and NHL leapfrogs to No. 3. If we calculate the median “cap hit” versions of 2019 salaries across various leagues on Spotrac.com, we’ll see the NBA at $4.46 million, followed by NFL at $3 million, NHL at $2.25 million and MLB at $1.375 million.
The reason MLB fell so much is 40 of its players — about 5% of 860 total roster spots — earned $20 million or more and dramatically inflated average wages beyond what’s normal for most in that circuit.

from Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
There was a banner-raising ceremony, a trip to the White House and the first game back against Boston, the team the Blues vanquished to win the Stanley Cup. Each has been one hurdle to get past on the way to the Blues putting last season behind them and giving their sole focus to this season.
Now, the party really is over.
The Blues announced on Monday that forward Vladimir Tarasenko, who has led the team in goals in each of the past five seasons, will need surgery on his left shoulder and will be re-evaluated in five months. That would put his possible return around the beginning of April, which is the final week of the regular season.,,,
Tarasenko was hurt in the game with the Kings on Thursday. He split two defenders for a partial breakaway but in an effort to slow him, defenseman Sean Walker used his elbow to lift Tarasenko's left arm, which apparently is when the injury occurred. Tarasenko got a shot off and then held his left arm against his side as he skated to the bench. He didn't immediately go to the dressing room, but did so before the period ended.

The NHL recognizes Austin Matthews being from San Ramon? That's a first
* Auston Matthews (San Ramon, Calif.), Alex Ovechkin (Moscow, Russia) and Leon Draisaitl (Cologne, Germany) became the third, fourth and fifth players to reach the 10-goal mark this season, joining Pastrnak (Havirov, Czech Republic) and James Neal (Whitby, Ont.). Each of the first five 10-goal scorers in 2019-20 hail from a different birth country.

From NHL.Com mailbag today, Dan Rosen: Comments?
Should Sharks fans be concerned with San Jose's slow start? What's going on with them? -- @tealforreal_96
Yes, Sharks fans absolutely should be concerned. It's alarming how off the Sharks look. It's not something we're used to seeing. There is a disjointed look to the Sharks, who aren't a fast team to begin with, but now they're playing without their typical organization and discipline. Worse yet, their goaltending isn't masking any of the issues or eliminating some of the concerns because neither Martin Jones nor Aaron Dell has played well. Jones has an .890 save percentage, and Dell is at .891. Those are 35th and 36th in the NHL among the 46 goalies who have played five or more games. They're getting zero help, though, especially at 5-on-5.
Many of the Sharks' most important players are getting stuck in the defensive zone far too often in 5-on-5 situations. There are 103 forwards in the League who have at least six points at even strength this season; none is from San Jose. Logan Couture, the Sharks captain, was minus-48 in 5-on-5 shot attempts differential before a 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, sixth-worst among NHL forwards. He has four even-strength points (one goal, three assists) because the Sharks rarely have the puck when he's on the ice. Marc-Edouard Vlasic, who has been their best defensive stopper for several seasons, was minus-39 in shot-attempts differential entering Tuesday, tied for 12th-worst among defensemen. Patrick Marleau was minus-36 in eight games, Timo Meier was minus-32, and Brent Burns was minus-11. Meier has two goals after scoring 30 last season, and Burns has three after he had 16. Erik Karlsson was plus-4, but that's irrelevant when you factor in his minus-11 rating. He was on the ice for all seven goals in a 5-2 loss at the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. Not good.
It's a lot to turn around, but the Sharks can do it with the talent they have if they start playing together and if their goaltending starts to back them up and bail them out. That might be a lot to ask, but they're home for 11 of their 15 games in November, so the schedule presents an opportunity to make amends for a poor October. It's not too late yet.

BTW, not overly impressed with Svechnikov's fancy goal, more of a 'trick' play rather than a skill play - a lacrosse move. U of Mich player first did that in a college game about 12 years ago. Meh.
