Washington Capitals to hire Peter Laviolette as their new head coach. Where the fuck is Doug Wilson and what is he doing to fix his disaster of a team. Probably giving Joe Thornton a contract extension My thoughts exactly

DW sold Hasso on the team being an EK65 from winning it all. He can’t have many options to make significant moves right now. Another basement finish should get us a new GM

Hasso is marinating in the DW's tanning oil.

It leaked last week that Boughner was coming back. No surprise there.
But for one year, even with all the baggage that comes, why not take a swing with Babcock? If it fails than DW is probably gone and a new GM can pick his new coach.

If it fails than DW is probably gone and a new GM can pick his new coach. I think it is even more unlikely Babcock gets picked up by any team let alone the sharks. Everyone knows the "hazing" allegations but that doesn't really matter to me but the PR nightmare that would stem from the first "sandpaper" run in with Kane and it would then become a "racial" issue. It definitely sucks for a guy with Babcock's pedigree. I'd say take a chance on gallant but I hate that guy so much lol.

HAPPY STANLEY CUP FINALS DAY!

via Pierre LeBrun tweets,
Gary Bettman, at his traditional Cup final media conference, says he wouldn't be surprised if next season's Dec. 1 start ``slips'' into later December, maybe into January. But no definitive decisions and/or plans yet.
Bettman reiterates what Daly told me and @overtimescottb last week: that the NHL still intends to try and play 82 games next season whenever they start...
Some rare Bettman speculation: it's ``conceivable'' that next season starts without fans in the building but then transitions to some fans in the rinks as the season goes on... he stressed that was speculation.
Bettman says emphatically that Seattle's entry into the league will NOT be delayed under any circumstance. They will begin play in 2021-22.
Chris Johnston at the same media conference, via tweets...
Gary Bettman says the NHL has administered more than 30,000 COVID-19 tests with teams inside the bubble, and still hasn't had a positive result.
Gary Bettman says that winning the #StanleyCup under these conditions "might just be the most remarkable achievement in the history of our league."
Gary Bettman won't comment on the speculation about a potential all-Canadian division in 2020-21.
Gary Bettman: "Our franchises will get through this and come out stronger on the other side."
Gary Bettman: "I've never been a fan of expanding the playoffs. ... It will take a fair amount of convincing, to me at least, that we need to be making a change."
Gary Bettman mentions the possibility that 2020-21 season is played in phases: Starting with no fans, progressing to socially distanced seating and eventually including fully open buildings.
I've heard this previously from teams. Just one option. Still many unknowns.
Gary Bettman says the moment he presents the #StanleyCup will be the first time he's breathed a sigh of relief since March 12. Adds: "And maybe I'll get a full night's sleep."

Without fans there will be no one to uphold the tradition of booing Commissioner Gary Bettman when he hands off the Cup. If he has a sense of humor he’d allow a recording of jeers to be played as he comes out to the ice.

Stars and Lightning are pretty much Gary's worst nightmare of a series. from Michael Traikos of the National Post, Whoever ends up winning the Stanley Cup, which begins on Saturday between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Dallas Stars, will not have an asterisk attached to their name. Although maybe they should, based on everything they went through and how hard it was to get to this point. Of course the hardest part is still to come: Convincing Canadians to care about a final played between two southern U.S. teams that don’t have a pre-packaged star player to build a marketing campaign around. Whether you live in Canada or the U.S., this series won’t be an easy sell. Hard-core hockey fans will no doubt love this series, which will pit Russia’s Andrei Vasilevskiy against Anton Khudobin, four-time Norris Trophy finalist Victor Hedman against future Norris winner Miro Heiskanen, and the likeable Jon Cooper against the even-more-likeable Rick Bowness. But hard-core hockey fans also probably sat glued to their TV sets watching the six-hour, five-OT marathon between Tampa Bay and Columbus early in the first round. It’s the casual sports fan whose wandering eyes the NHL should be worried about. The sporting landscape has never been this crowded, this competitive. The Toronto Blue Jays are in the midst of a playoff run. Unlike last year, the Toronto Raptors are out of the playoffs. But the NBA western final still has Canada’s Jamal Murray up against LeBron James.
