(Hope we don't play them in the playoffs again). It was interesting to see how the league, media and other fans turned on the Sharks for things they had no control over. Hopefully it will all be water under the bridge next year. I don’t think the Sharks need to get St. Louis type tough...but they do need to get tougher in general and stop being so soft when other teams take liberties. Bottom line, St. Louis won because of Binnington. |

Sharks top talent are fairly soft but skilled. Only Burns and Kane are physical. Logan/Pavs/Jumbo/Hertl/EK65 all have skill but they dont hit. I am not talking about head shots but hard legit hitting. None of the lower skill guys do either and that is a big problem. Playoff hockey is different than regular season hockey and we saw that on full display. You need skill and speed but you also need to be able to wear the other guy down.
Only Burns did his job in this area this postseason. That is just not enough.

Since the officiating over the last several seasons have shown players that's not allowed, they are not used to playing that way and could not respond to the Blues. The league let it go, but as other teams attempt to copy this behavior going forward, it will be more strictly called. So if you now build a team like that, next season you take a lot of penalties and suspensions and will get beat by speed. |
