Going to a concert tonight. Not sure if dogding a bullet or missing a solid tilt against an old rival that's also a bottom feeder these days.. Was out this evening too, but just finished watching the recording. Worth watching! especially the 3rd period with many tight scrappy board battles, no space, back & forth action, both teams showing a desperation for points. I was impressed what I saw of Mario Ferraro tonight. great skater, which allowed him to do some eye popping things a few times. not just another Joakim Ryan; DW may have something there. but Yea baby, looked like an old classic Shark/Wings hockey game at many points tonight. Darren McCarty, Mike Vernon would be proud! |

Heed did seem to be settling in though which isn't a bad thing to have for depth. |

What could have been a great road trip ended up being a pretty good one for the Red Wings.
Once again, the Wings rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game, had great chances in overtime but fell in the shootout, 4-3, to the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center Saturday night.
Detroit fell to 7-12-3 overall and finished the trip 1-0-2....
Andreas Athanasiou (two) and Taro Hirose scored for the Wings....
Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard (2-8-1), making his first start since Nov. 6 in New York, made 16 saves, none bigger than getting his glove on a point-blank shot from Logan Couture in the slot with 1:40 left in regulation.

I enjoyed it too, it was great action. Surprised nobody commented on Jones' weak glove on saturday night. I thought Detroit's 2nd goal (Hirose) was savable, Hirose just flips it into a huge upper space above Jones glove. Watch the replays above, weak. Then Detroit 3rd period tying goal (Athanasiou), Jones can't push across to make any kind of decent save attempt. Shooter gets a wide open net, Jones can't push across because he's on knees. (why the fk is he on his knees there?) it's not that the puck went over or under Jones' stretched golve, the glove haddn't even MADE IT THERE yet. Yea it was a 2 on 1 with a defenseman caught, but you need that save from your NHL goalie. I think shark goaltending is by far the weakest link thus far. Jones was .893 on Saturday night. In 17 games this season, Jones has been sub .900 12 times already. That's not sustainable. |
