I wasted four hours of my precious time for this industrial grade shitshow. Joe Thornton does not belong to the 3rd line in today's NHL. Sorry.
And the defense is as usual.

Well, that did not go well. Still don’t know what this team is. Sometimes they look very good and sometimes like this. One thing for certain is they either fix their defense or they are an early playoff exit team. And Jumbo is playing one season too long.

If they don’t fix the defense they won’t need to worry about the playoffs...

As good as their recent play has been this is now 3 games in a row against good teams where they have had their asses kicked (Oilers, Jets and Caps).

That's probably why they did beat Arizona, Carolina and Islanders.

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for elbowing Washington Capitals defenceman Radko Gudas during NHL Game No. 433.

I keep expecting Jumbo to snap out of it but he keeps being behind the play and sloppy on the puck game after game Hopefully he wakes up & know he's done

Frankly they would have had 2 against the Oilers had the Oilers had competent goaltending in the first game.

They are what they are, a team that can beat anyone any given night as well as lose to anyone any given night. Which is worse than it sounds because, if I recall correctly, the biggest difference between the true elite teams and everyone else is that the elite teams always beat the teams they ought. The Bruins/Capitals/Blues of the NHL are always going to beat the Devils/Red Wings/Senators. They may go .500 against the other good teams but when it comes down to what should be a sure two points, they get them and other teams don't. This Sharks team is not a contender, not even close. Good enough to make the playoffs for sure but so are many teams that miss out every year. If this team goes far something magical has to happen or some major changes. Seeing how this team is constructed, I'm hoping for the latter but the former is more likely.

For the record too, no problem with the Kane-Gudas hit. It wasn't clean but wasn't as a bad as it looked. Gudas sold it pretty well for a guy who's given much dirtier and many dirtier hits than that, and who probably argued them all. You got to play 60 minutes, even if the last five don't mean much. Glad Kane wasn't suspended and it was the right call to just go with a fine. You can tell Gudas knew he telegraphed the hit so Kane knew it was coming and tried to protect himself. Doesn't make it clean or legal but we all know there is a different code of guys who play hard and guys who don't. Both Gudas and Kane fall into the same category and were judged accordingly. If you're going to take a run at a guy in a game that's over, be like Kurtis MacDermid and run at Suomela prepared to face the consequences (hey Sharks why weren't there any), don't run at a guy like Kane who'll either know it is coming or come right back at you when it does.

5 goals on 23 shots, .783 save %, flopping round, no glove.
yea poor defensive coverage haunts the sharks, but Jones can still make a few extra good saves per game IMO. had a poor bead (angle) on Carlson's 45 foot rip (Caps #3), Vrana second goal, slot rip from about 40 feet is given permission to be stopped (Caps #5). its like he's got to play tighter into his net so the puck ends up in front of him more. I saw shades of teal fkn Niemi canoeing the crease in last nights highlights. Ugly.
sharks can improve in many areas but the crease is home plate ground-zero - constant sub .900 games at the door mat hasn't been cutting it with me lately.

Kane's instinct is to NOT go shulder to shoulder there with beefy Gudas, or likely his shoulder would snap like a chicken wing. Glove up to the ear was a yellow parachute IMO.

Actually, it seems like Tampa, for some obscure reason, are in the same boat: four of their ten losses came against FLA/OTT/NYR/MIN
And the Bruins laid a rare egg tonight as well.

Probably why the Bolts aren’t in the playoffs right now.

This means Sharks haven't played 5 on 5 hockey very well this season. And goaltending unable to compensate for the sloppyness. Today Sharks are -13 as a team, only the LA Kings are worse in the west (-23). Chipping away at that -13 is the biggest thing Deboer can focus on. Must play every shift to be a positive.
