It's not the goaltending people. The team in front of the goaltenders really, really sucks. They're fucking horrible in their own end. THAT is the problem. They need to score 4+ every game to have a chance to overcome the horrible D-zone play. The same breakdowns and mistakes in the D-zone keep happening over and over. My thoughts exactly. Jones and dell have both let in some bad goals, but at the same time have stopped shots that should have been goals. Last night goals 1-2... 1 man allowed to walk in and rip a shot from top of the circle, I think the statistic is like 92% of shots taken from the top of the circle goes in. The defensive zone play must be addressed before a proper assessment of Jones/Dell play can be made. Unless Dougie can somehow fleece Price from MTL, not sure of what else is out there that would be an actual upgrade.

Have you seen Price's contract?! *cringe* The only available goalie ATM, I think, is Anders Nilsson.

Why can’t this team be bad defensively and Jones/Dell also be bad? You can have a bad QB and bad receivers. They can coexist. For the Sharks, they aren’t good defensively not even close and their play leaves lots to be desired. But Jones and Dell have also been bad and been bad for a long time now. Numbers back up what we’ve all seen.

The D has no faith in either goalie to bail them out and make a tough save...and the D moral fails when the goalies let in softies one minute into the game. Likewise, the goalies know that the poor D play will result in several two on ones, close in premium scoring chances, etc every game. I’m not usually one to blame coaching or management...but, IMO, thats the case here. The Sharks put all their eggs in the Burns/EK scoring basket and its biting them in the ass. Yes, its great to have offense from your D’men. However, the Sharks took that way to far and at this point couldn’t stop a team of pee wee’s from scoring on them.

Numbers back up what we’ve all seen. True, they're not mutually exclusive. However, a much tighter defense that limits scoring opportunities will have a more positive effect on goaltender's play than stellar goaltending will have on defensive play. Confidence is a huge factor for goalies. Their play improves with a rise in confidence. Sloppy defensive play that is continually bailed out will not likely improve on its own. I've coached team with terrible goaltending. I had to put a stop to the kids bitching about the goalies. I put the onus on them to stop giving up so many shots. Gaps closed, more shots got blocked, shots against dropped and goals against improved as a result. The math backs it up. It's just my opinion but out of the two, Sharks defense and Sharks goaltending, the former is the worst of the two.

Don’t disagree with that but my issue is that the goaltending has been bad enough that asking for a change isn’t unreasonable. Could they bring someone else in and get at least league average goaltending? With this team, maybe not but I’d take a maybe over the certain no Jones and Dell provide.

The thing is there's little to no chance of moving Jones. DW has the team painted into a corner. The only move I can see as possible is letting Dell go and bringing up the kid from the 'Cuda. Well, there's always the nefarious route calling in a Gillooly job on Jones' knees to get him on LTIR... Tightening up the D-zone is likely the only viable solution at this point. Even that appears to be a reach with this group. The only good news really is that some of the young D are getting some ice time. The problem there is the potential of picking up some very bad habits from their "mentors" on the ice.

If pickles is un-happy enough he might let a deal happen. The positives to me is Ferraro is going to be a stud if he can keep trending up. Heed still looks like hes struggling some nights against the NHL talent/size. Middleton has definitely improved from last year by a ton, but I think is still not ready to stay with the big club. Realistically the only D they can move is Dillon and I hope they do not move him. But he is the only one without a MTC. This next little bit after the holiday freeze should be interesting to see if Dougie has one last trick up his sleeve, or (very low chance) they somehow pull a last year St Louis and just decide to un-fuck themselves and finally play hockey they are capable of. Another area of concern will be: If they can get out of this goddamn officiating purgatory they are in and actually get some calls going their way. Hopefully Gary only promised a 6-month ban of the sharks to Vegas lmao.
