I read that Gallant will coach at the worlds... Did anyone ever find out what he was fired for? It certainly could not have been because of the little losing streak they were on. Per Elliotte Friedman it had something to do with not using analytics/not getting along or seeing the same things as management. Friedman usually gets good details but no one else has given him a shot since, like there almost has to be something else, but then again I don't blame them, I kinda hate the guy lol.

He definitely alluded to something like that. Florida axed him and let him find his own cab home so yeah, maybe his personality or something isn’t for everyone.

Hire him Dougie. San Jose is a clown show already, might as well add a ringleader
from Emily Sadler of Sportsnet,
Earlier this week, agent Neil Glasberg of PBI Sports announced a new partnership with Patrick Roy, indicating Roy's interest in a potential return to the NHL.
“He could be a president of hockey ops. He could be a GM. He could be a co-GM. He could be a head coach,” Glasberg told Sportsnet's Luke Fox later Monday. “It's going to be situational. That's the truthful answer.”
Per Fox's report, Roy is happy in his current role as general manager and coach of the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts -- the same club he coached to Memorial Cup victory in his first post-playing endeavour -- and was approached by Glasberg about the idea of representation. There's no imminent NHL deal in place, nor has there been communication between Roy and his old club the Montreal Canadiens.
All that being said, it's an interesting development considering Roy's status as NHL goaltending royalty and what happened during his first (and currently only) NHL coaching stint.
Roy's tenure in Colorado started with a spark but ultimately fizzled out after three seasons, with Roy surprising the hockey world with his resignation just two months before his fourth was set to begin.

from Amber Neely of Apple Insider,
Hockey teams across the U.S. and Canada utilize a first-of-its-kind app on the iPad to create better-informed decisions during the game.
The app in question is SAP-NHL Coaching Insights App for iPad, and it has revolutionized the way coaches gain insight into a game.
It is capable of providing coaches with a wealth of information at their fingertips. Coaches can quickly lookup real-time data on how players on both teams have performed on faceoffs overall, how teams have performed at specific locations, and how players have faired against particular opponents.
"It's a huge part of coaching in today's game," Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan told The Atlantic. "We're trying to get better every day, and you do that on the ice, but you can't only get better on the ice. You need to get better in all aspects, and you need to use every tool that's available to you, and that's where the technology and these iPads have become so important."
It also analyzes information throughout the game, making it more valuable as the game goes on. For example, SAP-NHL Coaching Insights can be used to keep track of which players have taken breaks and for how long. This information allows coaches to make sure players are being rotated out to maximize energy while minimizing potential injury or fatigue.

I would absolutely looooove Roy as a coach. He was stuck with a group of young kids that just didn't really give a fuck about winning, or worse- cared about winning the next game after losing. I'd say if SJ is really going to give it a go next year, "re-tool" draft high and bring him in as an assistant coach just in case Boog can't make it happen with better talent.

I just don't understand this line of thinking. You're there to play Hockey, nothing more nothing less. Any comments on why playing in Montreal is different that playing on 30 other teams in 30 other cities? Help me out here
from Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette,
It looks like the pressure-cooker that is life as a Québécois Canadiens player has been tough for Drouin. He’s not the first local francophone to feel the heat nor will he be the last. The only other local francophone on the team, Phillip Danault, talked Wednesday about how locals like him and Drouin can’t help but listen to the radio shows, hear what people are saying on the street, and that can be rough.
Lots of unkind things have also been said this year about Danault, who is presumably the team’s first-line centre yet only has four goals. So he knows what Drouin is going through.
So does David Desharnais, another francophone Quebecer who was often scorched by fans during his tenure ici. Like Danault, Desharnais was a No. 1 centre who probably never should’ve been given the job. It’s no knock on him or Danault; it’s a knock on Habs management, which hasn’t had a bona fide No. 1 centreman for years.
Remember when then-mayor Denis Coderre tweeted to say Desharnais, who was in a scoring slump at the time, should be sent down to the American Hockey League? That was a horrible thing for Coderre to say. A fan can say that. The mayor of Montreal can’t.
Louis Leblanc, a Canadiens first-round draft choice (No. 18 overall in 2009), also knows all about the crazy pressure for local players here. So does Guillaume Latendresse, who was selected No. 45 overall in 2005 by Montreal. You could also have a good chat with Patrice Brisebois about what it was like to listen to thousands booing him every time he touched the puck at the Bell Centre.
There is something unique about being a francophone Quebecer wearing the CH. Many of the Habs greats — Hall of Famers like Maurice (Rocket) Richard, Jean Béliveau, Serge Savard and Guy Lafleur — thrived on the pressure.
But things have changed in the past quarter-century. A good half of the roster of the Canadiens team that won the 1993 Cup were francophones. Now, there are only two francophones on the team and so the weight on those two guys’ shoulders is all the greater.

Jake Virtanen has left the team
The reported story of the Jake Virtanen allegation: "We had met in the Summer, and spent the rest of it talking, looking forward to seeing each other that Fall. When I finally visited Vancouver that September, he wanted to meet up one night but it was late so I suggested another day. He insisted on picking me up that night. I was staying with friends in North Van and I knew he lived around an hour away so I thought I’d be safe knowing he wasn’t just taking me back to his house and being put in a position I didn’t want to be in. After he picked me up I found out the team had them staying in a hotel and without asking or even telling me what was going on he drove me right to the hotel. As soon as we pulled up I felt uneasy but I figured I could go in and be safe. When we got into the room I was looking out on the balcony and he immediately came up behind me started putting his hands all over me and kissing my neck. I kind of shrugged him off then he put Netflix on. Within a couple minutes of the movie being on he started making out with me, I’d go along for a minute then pull away as I didn’t want things to escalate. It wasn’t long before he took off my shirt and as he did I said, "I don’t want to have sex" he said it was okay and we didn’t have to. Right after he went to unhook my bra, again I said, “I seriously don’t want to have sex with you” and again he assured me it was ok and we didn’t have to. We would kiss on and off but as soon as he would try to go further I’d again say no and he just kept reassuring me. He started taking off my pants complimenting me, telling me they were "nice pants" and again I said, "I don’t want to have sex with you, I’m serious" and again he reassured me we wouldn’t. It then got to the point where he kept kissing me and escalating things so I shot up and said "okay, maybe I should leave". He then kind of snapped out of it and said, "no, no if you really don’t want to we don’t have to", and for some reason I believed him and laid back down. No longer than 5 minutes went by and he was all over me, kissing me, being more persistent than ever. He had taken off his pants at some point during that time, and I found myself physically holding his hips off of me trying to keep him from going inside me while saying "no I don’t want to do this, I’ve said no" and he would say "just a little bit, come on just a little bit". We went back and forth like that till it got to the point that I physically couldn’t hold him off any longer, and after saying no well over a dozen times I just laid there, staring at the ceiling waiting for him to finish.I went in the bathroom and cried. When I came out he was trying to be all loving, saying "come on sugs, come cudds at least". He had told me earlier that he would drive me home but just made me sleep there instead. My eyes were wide open till I finally fell asleep. I asked him to drive me home in the morning and instead he was just going about his day, showering and getting ready acting like everything was good. Then told me he couldn’t drive me because he had to go to practice and just left me with money for a cab. I was so disgusted and conflicted about what had just happened, whether it was my fault for going in the hotel and my fault for not just leaving when I threatened to. I was 18 at the time and completely sober so I was fully aware of what was going on. With him being in a high position of professional hockey, almost no one believed that I didn’t want to, that he assaulted me and that he didn’t take no for an answer. Rumours circulated and people made it seem like something I should be proud of and "props" to me for sleeping with an NHL player. No one really believed that I genuinely felt violated and those who did just questioned me for not doing more to prevent it"

Hey look emotion in a regular season game. Better suspend everyone involved. www.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=%2FNot the best display from Wilson but reading the comments you think he decapitated someone. Hockey fans are so soft these days. I’d take Wilson on the Sharks any day.
