I actually agree with him...Parros is unfit to do his job. NHL player safety is routinely inconsistent and unfair. I do actually agree with Parros for once though...Wilson, who has been properly suspended in the past, shouldn’t have been suspended for this incident. Word is the Rangers owner is going after Gary Bettman. He wants a new comissioner I'd like to see Bettman gone one way or another.

Doing is publicly is what caused the wagons to circle. Yep but Parros is still a shitty Director of Player Safety. Nothing will change that no matter who backs him.

from Sean Shapiro of The Athletic, When it comes to luring big-name talent for its hockey coverage, ESPN is taking a shot at the biggest name in the sport’s history. ESPN has approached and pitched Wayne Gretzky about a broadcasting role, according to multiple sources. Whether Gretzky, an alternate governor for the Edmonton Oilers, is interested is unknown, but at this point ESPN hasn’t been given a “no.” It’s been believed that ESPN wanted to take some big swings when it came to adding hockey personalities whose names held Hall of Fame value from their playing careers. Bringing in hockey’s universally known all-time leading scorer would certainly fit that ambition.

Agree...I’m glad the Rangers owner did what he did publicly...be quiet and playing nice doesn’t work so go for it. Nice to see an owner with some balls...wish we had an owner like that.

Agree...I’m glad the Rangers owner did what he did publicly...be quiet and playing nice doesn’t work so go for it. Nice to see an owner with some balls...wish we had an owner like that. Bettman is almost 70 and has been on the job since the winter of 1992. Many of his key people have been with him for at least 20 years. The overall leadership looks tired and out of fresh answers. Once-profitable international hockey has vanished. Bettman couldn’t arm twist the NHLPA into starting the season on Jan. 1 and had to wait another 12 days until the union gave the okay. J.T. Miller of the Canucks stared down the league over COVID-related scheduling and the league backed down.... The 2020-21 season has been a massive headache for the NHL, and some of the pain has been self-inflicted. At some point, the league’s board of governors is going to start wondering if new blood at the top is needed. -Damien Cox at the Toronto Star www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/opinion/2021/05/06/its-been-a-painful-year-for-gary-bettman-and-the-nhl-is-it-time-for-a-leadership-change.html?rf

via the Columbus Blue Jackets,
The Columbus Blue Jackets and head coach John Tortorella, whose contract expired at the end of the 2020-21 season, have mutually agreed to part ways, club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Tortorella, 62, is the winningest coach in Blue Jackets history, guiding the club to a 227-166-54 record (.568 points percentage) in 447 games since being named head coach of the club on Oct. 21, 2015. He led the Blue Jackets to four-straight appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs from 2016-20 and was a finalist for the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's Coach of the Year in 2016-17 and 2019-20. He won the award in 2016-17 after Columbus posted the best record in franchise history with a 50-24-8 (108 pts.) mark.
A Boston native, Tortorella owns a career record of 673-541-169 in 1,383 career games with the Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning. He won his first Jack Adams Award in 2003-04 after leading the Lightning to the Stanley Cup championship. He is the winningest U.S.-born coach in NHL history as he ranks first in wins and games coached.
Statement from Jarmo Kekalainen "Torts and I have had numerous conversations throughout the season, and we have agreed that the time is right for both he and club to go our separate ways. He is a great coach and his accomplishments with our club over the past six seasons speak for themselves. He has played an integral role in our success since his arrival, and we are extremely grateful for his passion and commitment to the Blue Jackets and our city. He was the right coach at the right time and helped us establish a standard that we will carry forward."
Statement from John Tortorella "After discussion and consideration of the future direction of the team, Jarmo and I have come to a mutual agreement to part ways. I'd like to thank the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for the opportunity to coach this team and live in the great Columbus-area. It has been a privilege to work with the players, coaches and hockey operations staff, which is one of the best in the League. Also, I want to thank the CBJ fans and the community for the support they've given the team and for the work of the CBJ family in support of the community.

General Tortorella
Dearest Christine,
Fate has decided that this will be my final campaign leading the men of the Union. As I hear the somber sound of the men breaking camp for the final time, my eyes fill with tears as I reflect on the many memories I made leading these men into battle.
As I began to ride out, the deafening silence was broken by the cheers of the 5th Brigade with cries of huzzah and the chanting of my name. I replied by raising my cap and shouting “FOR THE UNION!, FOR COLUMBUS!” and then rode off towards the rising morning sun.
Yours, John
