Carey Price is a 10.5M cap hit for the next 5 seasons and is already 33, now with some major injury concerns coming out. I think MTL exposed him because they know the Kraken aren't going to risk going down that road. It was real convenient that news of the "injuries" and possibly missing time next season came out the same day the protection list came out and not after the final was done. Thats craaaaaaaazy. Real convenient is a uderstatement. They're daring them to take Price and that contract off of their hands. It's to bad Doug Wilson doesn't have the balls to do that with his players. Maybe the Kraken would take some of the long term contracts that will stiffle the Sharks for the next few years

But seeing what Billy did in Minny, its actually a brilliant move but then again your back is against the wall and your window to win is only two years.

via the NHL PR department,
NHL EXPANSION DRAFT NOTABLES
* The oldest player to date selected in an NHL expansion draft is Bobby Hull, picked at age 40 by the Jets in 1979. Hull played 18 games with Winnipeg in 1979-80, notching 4-6—10.
* Two 37-year-old goaltenders have been claimed in an expansion draft: Terry Sawchuk by the Kings in 1967 and Mike Vernon by the Wild in 2000. Sawchuk played 36 games with Los Angeles, while Minnesota traded Vernon to Calgary the day of the expansion draft.
* The youngest player to date selected in an NHL expansion draft is Mike Corrigan, picked at age 21 years, 146 days by the Kings in 1968.
* The youngest goaltenders to date selected in an NHL expansion draft are Billy Smith and Dan Bouchard, who share the same birthday (Dec. 12, 1950) and were selected by the Islanders and Flames, respectively, in the 1972 expansion draft at age 21 years, 177 days.
* Among players selected in NHL expansion drafts from 1967 through 2000, the last to play an NHL game was Tomas Vokoun (June 7, 2013 w/ PIT). Selected from Montreal by Nashville in 1998, Vokoun spent eight seasons with the Predators and left as the franchise leader in regular season wins and games played, titles he held until 2013-14 and 2015-16, respectively.
* Six players selected in an NHL expansion draft have gone on to play at least 10 seasons with the franchise that chose them (min. 1 GP in regular season or playoffs): goaltender Billy Smith (17 w/ NYI), defenseman Joe Watson (11 w/ PHI), forward Gary Dornhoefer (11 w/ PHI), forward Alain Cote (10 w/ QUE), forward Bill Goldsworthy (10 w/ MNS) and goaltender Bernie Parent (10 w/ PHI).
* Goaltender Billy Smith made the most playoff appearances with the franchise that selected him in an NHL expansion draft as he guided the Islanders to 13 playoff berths and four Stanley Cup wins. The highest such total among skaters is nine, by defenseman Joe Watson and forward Gary Dornhoefer with the Flyers.
* A total of 38 players have been selected in multiple NHL expansion drafts, including two chosen three times: goaltender Frederic Chabot (1992 TBL, 1998 NSH, 2000 CBJ) and forward Jim Thomson (1991 MNS, 1992 OTT, 1993 ANA).
* Thirty players selected in an NHL expansion draft have since become head coaches in the League, including two who currently hold that title: Mike Sullivan of the Penguins and Bob Boughner of the Sharks (both selected by NSH in 1998).
* Seven players selected in an NHL expansion draft have since become general managers in the League, including current GMs Tom Fitzgerald of the Devils (selected by FLA in 1993) and Kevyn Adams of the Sabres (selected by CBJ in 2000). The others: Lou Angotti (1967 PHI; GM w/ STL), Gerry Meehan (1970 BUF; GM w/ BUF), Billy MacMillan (1972 AFM; GM w/ CLR/NJD), Pat Quinn (1970 VAN, 1972 AFM; GM w/ TOR & VAN) and Nick Beverley (1979 HFD; GM w/ LAK). Angotti is the GM of record for only one regular season game.
* Twenty players have been selected in an NHL expansion draft by a franchise based in their birth state or province, most recent in 2000 when the Minnesota Wild selected Darby Hendrickson (Richfield, Minn.) and Jeff Nielsen (Grand Rapids, Minn.).

Logan Mailloux, projected to be selected in the 1st two rounds of the 2021 NHL Draft, has renounced his draft eligibility after being charged with "taking and distributing an offensive photo without consent during a consensual sexual encounter.” Mailloux allegedly photographed the woman while the pair were engaging in oral sex and later distributed the picture to his teammates.

“Vlad’s shoulder is very stable and strong. He told me it is more stable and stronger than it has felt in a long while. To me, it feels rock solid. There is no doubt, Vlad will be 100 percent ready for the upcoming season. I am confident he will be ready to play and that he will make a big impact for his team.”
-Dr. Peter Millett who performed the most recent shoulder surgery on Vladimir Tarasenko.

From Elliot Friedman:
Welcome to 2021, where a fish tells us who's Kraken. (It was a rehearsal, but it also may have been one of the best promo ideas in recent memory.) We’re less than 24 hours from unveiling Seattle’s expansion picks, and here’s what’s out there:
• It’s strikingly quiet. Those who worked through the 2017 Vegas expansion say that process was “much louder” than this one. There’s been much less communication with other teams from Seattle than there was from the Golden Knights. Does that mean Seattle has fewer trades planned? We’ll see. But, they’ve definitely not been as active across the league.
• They’ve targeted some free agents. What’s going to be interesting is if that means those players are going to be Seattle’s selection from other NHL teams, or the Kraken are going to know they have a deal “in the drawer,” and take a second player from certain clubs. Two teams to watch for — Florida and St. Louis. The Kraken are locked-in on Panthers goalie Chris Driedger. Do they also add someone like Frank Vatrano, or is Driedger the pick? They’re also interested in Jaden Schwartz. If they’re convinced they’ve got something, do they add Schwartz now, or take Vince Dunn and add the winger later? No confirmation on this, but a couple teams think the Kraken like Blake Coleman, too.
(Wednesday morning update: there are some legs to this free agency theory. The Kraken pursued both Adam Larsson and Jamie Oleksiak. Again, do these count as the picks from Dallas and/or Edmonton? Or do they add a second player?)
• On Carey Price: boy, this is so close to call. They’ve done their deep dive and know everything there is to know. The Canadiens seem to think it’s possible they lose a defenceman (Cale Fleury, Brett Kulak) instead. What a wild story this turned into. At the very least, the Kraken wanted Montreal to sweat and if they’d pay to keep Price.
• One NHL player offered to bet Monday night that Mark Giordano would be Seattle’s first captain. I didn’t take it.
Elsewhere:
• The momentum is gaining with Boston and Taylor Hall. Word is Hall wants to stay and the Bruins want to keep him. Nothing is done until it’s done, but there’s a path.
• Mentioned the other day about the possibility of Patrik Laine playing for his $7.5 million qualifying offer in 2021-22. That process is begun. The only hurdle might be if there’s any chance the Blue Jackets move him.
• Out of the NHL, Dave Cameron is coming back from Europe to replace Arizona’s Andre Tourigny as coach of OHL Ottawa. He'll also replace Tourigny as the World Junior coach for Canada.

So much for keeping this secret and leaving it to the televised expansion draft later tonight.
One less thing I need to watch!

Sharks lose True. Didn't even want a roster player, pretty embarrassing.
Kraken drafting economically looks like. Left a lot of talent on the board

I didn't see True making the big club roster anytime soon anyway. For a big guy he uses a short stick and gets bumped off the puck easy. Much rather keep Donato/Gambrell. This is of course the "leaked" list is BS and there will be upsets later.

I hope this leaked list is Francis' sick joke and he completely changes the picks later. Why? Because the NHL could use some chaos.

This could very well be the reason for the choices made. Thats a bold move Cotton...Let's see if it works out for them lol. On the other hand...What could have been the cost for the pick to be A.True from the sharks?

Wish they took Donato or Simek. Don’t see True as anything other than a depth bottom liner but don’t care to see either of the two anymore.
