A tough season for Kevin Labanc is going to get tougher tonight.
This morning, San Jose Sharks head coach Bob Boughner announced that Labanc would be a healthy scratch tonight versus the Calgary Flames.
This will be the seventh game that Labanc has missed in this young season: The winger missed five games in November because he was in COVID protocol, and after slew-footing Tyler Bozak on Nov. 18, he was suspended for the next game against the Capitals.
“He needs to be better,” Boughner declared. “It’s a coach’s decision. It’s not an injury.”

He is supposed to be in the top six but plays like a 4th.

Not this time.

The top two lines seem to have figured themselves out, pretty telling when Eklund got shipped to Sweden that they put in Barabanov over Labanc without a second thought. Nieto-Cogs-Bonino is an identity third line; defensively reliable and can skate. That's not Labanc's game. And he isn't going to make an impact on the fourth line. But if they need to change things up, or someone gets hurt, it's always good to have someone who can slide in and contribute.

It is well known Labanc’s current deal was a result of the one year-one mil deal he took as an RFA before that. Pretty obvious there was some handshake understanding between him and Wilson when that extension was made.

Just a $4.75 Million cap hit for 3 more years
