I wouldn’t trade for Doughty cause I can’t stand the guy...but the Sharks do need to find a way to balance the offensive mindset of their defense, especially if Jones continues to suck. If Dougie ever traded for Doughty I would burn down the Sharks headquarters. Said a friend You don't need to burn down Sharks HQ if Doughty is traded here. Just UN-PLUG DW tanning booth, That will bring him to his knees & maybe a tear or 2...

True...and while I can’t stand Doughty or the Kings, Doughty is much better from a defensive standpoint. In that whole paragraph about Burns...there is not one mention of any actual defensive zone ability. The Norris trophy should be re-named, re-branded, etc...it has absolutely nothing to do with defense any more. While I agree generally speaking I think the point is that defensemen like Burns and Karlsson help their teams win more than most guys, regardless of style. It is a one-sided situation but when you can produce like those guys can over the long haul you’ll almost never be a negative influence, no matter how many blunders lead to goals against because replacing the goals they provide is a much more difficult. While guys like Herman, Doughty, and Giordano are much more balanced they’re also a clear rung below Burns and Karlsson offensively. That probably doesn’t make them better or worse, it really is just all the more impressive how consistent guys like Burns have to score and drive offence to be in that same class. In Karlason’s and Burns’ Norris years you could have probably argued they should’ve been in the Hart conversation they were that good. I would rather have seen Burns get the Hart trophy...and he would have deserved it. I agree Burns is a plus for the team. I just want to see actual defenseman get some love in the awards...so I agree with Haywood about a new trophy for that.

Wow, two Burns vids Sharkhaywood posted above are pretty impressive; completely smokes both opponents. Size and leverage his key in both. Then Burns serves up a fist the size of a grapefruit. Youch thats gotta hurt bad. If Burns carried a serious mean streak he'd be awfully intimidating on the ice.
A very angry Burns vs Reaves, I'd bet on Burns to dust him
But as a package deal, with his defensive rough spots and quirky style, I'll take Burns any day of the week. Burns for Charlie Coyle, Setoguchi and a 1st (Zack Phillips). DW committed highway robbery. I'm surprised Chuck Fletcher was offered another GM job after that one.
I remember Mike Babcock coming off 2 second round exits to the Sharks said - That's a fucking huge pickup. Im pissed we didn't do it. Pissed they didn’t do what?

Burns trains with MMA fighters which I am sure is where he learned how to use his leverage. It is telling that nobody has challenged in the last couple of years. I used to have a source close to Burns more than a few years ago... He doesn't fight often at the request of his wife. Could you imagine the aftermath of a Angry Joe and Angry Burns in the same game? lol

from Jimmy Murphy of Sports Book Review,
Imagine being at your local NHL arena and when you go up to the concessions stand there are sports gambling kiosks. You are able to go up to state of the art machines and place live and future bets, even on the game you are attending. So now when you return to your seat to watch the game, you not only have an ice-cold beer and a hotdog but a wager on the action right in front of you!
After developing a system to track in-game data by putting sensors in hockey pucks and forming a partnership with MGM last fall, the NHL plans to allow hockey fans and more specifically bettors to do all of the above at all NHL arenas in states and provinces where sports gambling is legal. T-Mobile Arena, the home fo the Vegas Golden Knights is scheduled to be the first arena where live betting kiosks will be available for fans and the hope is that other arenas will follow suit this upcoming season.
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told SBRPicks.com in an email Wednesday, that while this won’t happen on opening night of the 2019-20 season, we should still see this introduced in the NHL at some point in the upcoming season....
On Wednesday another NHL source told SBR Picks that while nothing is set in stone yet, TD Garden in Boston could be one of the first NHL arenas to follow the lead of T-Mobile Arena and that the NHL is doing everything it can to make that happen.
“(Jeremy) Jacobs has been one of the biggest advocates of in-arena betting and these kiosks and while he has some hurdles to overcome with the state of Massachusetts, he is determined to make this a reality,” the source said.

Babcock was pissed the Wings didn't make a move on Burns. This was in the days when we were still conference rivals and he was calling out the fact that Brent Burns was going to be a beast for us for years to come, and we gave away effectively peanuts for him (ok, maybe more but still a solid fleece job).

from TSN,
According to Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province, Brock Boeser's agent Ben Hankinson "has an appetite for a four-year extension at $7 million annually" for his client this summer.
A four-year, $28 million contract for Boeser would top that of San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier, who signed a four-year, $24 million deal in July and was noted to be a comparable to Boeser by Canucks general manager Jim Benning on Monday.
“Those are some of the names we’ve used,” Benning said of Meier and currently unsigned Winnipeg Jets restricted free agent Kyle Connor. “They (Boeser’s camp) have been reasonable and we’re continuing to talk to get to some common ground. I’m hopeful to get something done before camp, but we’re not there yet.”
Boeser had 26 goals and 56 points in 69 games last season, but as Kuzma notes, on pro-rated basis to 82 games, the 22-year-old would have had 66 points, equal to both Meier and Connor.

from Paul Walsh of the Star Tribune,
A member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” hockey team that won Olympic gold for the United States is jailed in northeastern Minnesota on charges that he attacked a neighbor with a metal pole.
Mark Pavelich’s sister says his aggression is uncharacteristic and may be related to head injuries suffered on the ice, including during his career in the National Hockey League.
Pavelich was booked into the Cook County jail last Thursday night and appeared Monday in Cook County District Court on charges of second- and third-degree assault, possession of an illegal shotgun and possessing a gun with a missing serial number.
Pavelich, 61, a land developer in Lutsen, remains held in lieu of $250,000 bail and was ordered by District Judge Michael Cuzzo to undergo a hearing on his mental competency to stand trial.

Never liked this guy after his brief '07 trade deadline stop in SJ, which he used as a four month vacation, then UFA signed with Islanders that July. He was complete crap in teal, showed poor character while here, IMO.
and whats going on with the Wild in Minnesota? Great fan base, beautiful arena - and ownership that seems to be running the team poorly. Owner Craig Leipold fires GM Paul Fenton two months ago for 'inexperience', then hires a cocky player hot-shot with no solo GM experience. also a Boston guy running a Minnesota team is a bad USA mix IMO.
I see this as a very bad move for Wild fans. Fk billy guerin. You still owe DW a first round pick you lazy glider.

The Erhoff slap shot to the mouth certainly didn't help Guerin's performance in the playoffs that year.

Burns is a big, strong boy. The league should be happy that he's very offensive minded rather than a big hack staying back on D looking to light up anybody crossing the blueline. He probably avoids a lot of scraps because of his value to the team on the ice vs. being in the box or worse yet, on IR. He does have some concussion issues...
Reaves likely would pass on Burns. Burns is too big and strong. Reaves seems to like roughing up smaller guys.
One of the best things about Burns is his size (you can't teach size) and his ability to move despite his size. He skates like a much smaller guy, not like a big lumbering oaf...

When Burns does decide to lay down a good hard clean hit it is game/series changing. I would like to see more from him on this just prior to playoffs vs key teams and big time in the post season. Filip Forsberg does this very well and chooses his targets carefully.

While I love the idea of perennial All-Star Burns beating up the last of the enforcers Reaves, it would never happen if it actually came to be.
Size and strength is one thing (and Reaves ain't small either), but having experience and know-how for fighting is something else. Burns is capable but nowhere in the same league as Reaves. Actually I can think of many more times a guy who fights and has the know-how beats a bigger guy than vice-versa, think of the Tie Domi, Cam Janssen, Rick Rypien, Dody Wood... And then think of all the big dudes who couldn't punch their way out of a paper bag; Brad Winchester, Zack Stortini, Hal Gill, Andre Roy...
I wonder if it's because the guys who are smaller fight because they want to fight, they have a will and a desire to do the dirty work while guys how have size probably know (at least in the past) that using that for a physical edge was almost a necessity to get ahead.
All that said, Reaves wasn't able to beat Kane definitively so who knows. I do hope Prout takes him behind the woodshed first game of the season. If that happens they could lose 5-0 and I'd still be happy.

Its not like Haley dominated but due to very strong technique he does win the fight. Bonus F U Drew for his stupid homer take at the end of the fight.
