There seems to be no physical reason women would not be as successful as men at things like chess, billiards or bowling. It becomes a question of training and opportunities- not unlike professions in engineering, sciences or programming. There is a reason most coaches for professional women’s soccer and basketball teams are men - women haven’t been involved in the sport as long as their male counterparts and there aren’t nearly as many women’s soccer and basketball teams as there are men’s teams. It stands to reason then that, except for a few instances, top flight professional women’s soccer and basketball teams are almost exclusively coached by men. It’s not because men are inherently better but rather that there are simply more men to choose from when hiring coaches. Even the USWNT, the second most successful national soccer team ever, just hired a man to replace Jill Ellis. TRO No, it's not a question of training and opportunities, it's a question of genetics and nature. Women in general aren't good top team coaches because you must have a commander trait in you. The evolution of human race wasn't ambiguous which gender got it. That's not as applicable to kids' training because being a better pedagogue is more important there.
Same about chess - the kind of research necessary for it is just not attractive - to the women chess players by their own admitting. As of engineering and programming, think, why the almost exclusively female profession of a programmer completely flipped around once mass-market PCs and hacking at home became available for the boys.
And, of course, besides that, the inevitable difference in the width of the bell curve...
“It’s genetics” might explain why the mean female chess player is worse than the mean male chess player but does not suffice when we are talking about many standard deviations to the right. A general lack of interest might also explain why there aren’t as many professional female chess players male chess players. A lack of access, or open hostility toward female chess players, might also contribute to the dearth of female chess players. There is, however, no physical reason a woman could not be the #1 ranked chess player in the world. Lack of interest, hostile environments and access restrictions are all viable for keeping women off the list of top ranked chess players, and I have little doubt all contribute. If you were told “oh, don’t do that. You wouldn’t like it” would you be more or less inclined to undertake the task? I expect most people told they wouldn’t like something would already be set back in undertaking that task. That then restricts access through a hostile environment and fosters a lack of interest. It’s also a lot harder to get started on something if your peers before had failed, or simply never started. TRO

TRO For some people being told you cant do that is devastating for others it is simply motivation. I have zero idea if gender plays a role in this but there are many examples of men and women that overcame this sort of obstacle to success. As a female gamer you have the unique opportunity to pretend you are male and because it is all online you can pull this off if you wish. You can distort voice commands to be able to be verbal and still pull this off. I do think there are differences between females and males beyond just the obvious physical ones that are easy to see. I dont have the stats on this and I dont know if we are allowed to even gather them but Mr. recently retired sister will tell you there is a disproportionate population of lesbians in law enforcement than you would expect. Same for armed forces and athletics. I dont know why but maybe they lean chemically a bit more male than the average female.

"Lack of access" and "hostility" is lip service, the complete absence of top-level chess analysts among women is what is most telling. And if you put a world and then some of investment into a girl, you get Judith Polgar, which is a lot, but given the ROI, not known if a lot.
BTW, in aforementioned billiards size and strength do matter. Physical fitness doesn't. What matters most is the determination to hit the balls on the table hour after hour after hour with grit and determination, a highly asocial activity to boot, too.

A former FBI analyst was sentenced to seven days in jail and a $500 fine Friday for illegally accessing a neighbor’s email account in a bid to head off an apparent smear campaign against special counsel Robert Mueller.
Mark Tolson, 60, pleaded guilty in September to a single misdemeanor charge of computer fraud and abuse for his unusual effort last fall to derail eccentric Washington lobbyist Jack Burkman’s attempt to obtain information to be used in sexual misconduct allegations against Mueller.
Tolson admitted he unlawfully accessed Burkman’s emails in October 2018, after the conspiracy-minded lobbyist announced plans to hold a news conference to air sexual harassment allegations against Mueller.
After snooping through Burkman’s account, Tolson sent screenshots of the messages and offered the password to an unspecified journalist, court filings say.
Tolson’s wife, Sarah Gilbert Fox, facilitated the illicit access by providing Burkman’s email password, which she had obtained for work she’d previously done for him.

So we have two possible outcomes of the FISA warrant review: #1 The lawyer that altered the documents did this only one time. If that is the case he clearly was targeting Trump. #2 The lawyer did this numerous times. That would mean the entire process is lacking oversight and other people had their rights trampled on.
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court (FISA) that approved FBI surveillance of former Trump campaign aide Carter Page is now investigating other applications it’s received from one of the agency's attorneys accused of making an inappropriate change to the Page application.
The review, which was announced in an order released Friday, hints at a comprehensive effort by the secretive court to reevaluate surveillance after the Justice Department inspector general's report found errors in the Page application process.
In the order, written on Dec. 5 and declassified Friday, the court requested that the executive branch identify "all other matters currently or previously before this Court" that involved FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith. The court also requested explanations of how the Justice Department and FBI are ensuring that Clinesmith’s submissions were accurate. The order goes on to ask for information as to whether Clinesmith faces possible disciplinary action from the bar regarding the change he made in the application for surveillance on Page.
It was not immediately clear if the court would publicize the administration's responses once they are received.
The order comes after the Justice Department told the court earlier this year that its Page applications contained misstatements or omissions that mostly surrounded an altered email saying Page was a government source.
Clinesmith has since resigned from the FBI and is under criminal investigation over the change he made, though he has not yet been charged with a crime.

Quite a sentence: An Ames man was sentenced Wednesday to about 16 years in prison after he set fire to a church's LGBTQ flag in June.
Adolfo Martinez, 30, of Ames, was found guilty last month of third-degree arson in violation of individual rights — hate crime, third-degree harassment, and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender.
He was arrested after stealing a pride banner hanging at Ames United Church of Christ, 217 6th St., and burning it early June 11 outside Dangerous Curves Gentleman’s Club, 111 5th St., police said.
Martinez admitted to police that he lit the banner on fire with lighter fluid and a lighter after stealing it from the church, according to court documents.
Story County Attorney Jessica Reynolds said the hate crime charges were added because Martinez is suspected of criminal mischief against someone's property because of "what it represents as far as sexual orientation."
More: Amid online outrage, police guard church where gay pride flag theft ended in 16-year sentence
He faced a maximum of five years in prison for the hate crime and arson charge and a maximum of a year and month for the other two charges, according to Iowa sentencing guidelines. Court records list him as a habitual offender, allowing him to be sentenced to a longer prison term.

I think it was the start of politicians making people truly dependent on the government. I paid in for 33 years and hope I get something back out...but, like you, I’m not counting on it. However, I have no problem with people collecting their SS benefit as long as they paid in. No sense blaming them, not like they had a choice to have those taxes taken out.

Shocking!
The disappearance of a 29-year-old woman seven days ago has Alabama police baffled and her mother worried.
Paighton Houston left a bar Birmingham, Ala., bar with two men Dec. 20 and then sent a text to a friend saying that she didn’t know them and she could be in trouble, according to reports Friday.
Birmingham police said Thursday they’ve exhausted all leads investigating Houston’s disappearance but are continuing to investigate, Fox 6 Birmingham reported.
Police said Houston left the Tin Roof bar on her own free will with the men, who were described only as two heavy-set black males, the Birmingham News reported Friday.
Sgt. Johnny Williams told the paper that police searching for Houston were trying to generate new leads.
He said investigators have been examining surveillance footage from the night of the disappearance, the paper reported.

The headline of course ignores an inconvenient fact...
BALTIMORE -- Baltimore broke its annual per capita homicide record after reaching 342 killings Friday.
With just over 600,000 residents, the city hit a historically high homicide rate of about 57 per 100,000 people after recent relentless gunfire saw eight people shot — three fatally — in one day and nine others — one fatally — another day.
The new rate eclipses that of 1993, when the city had a record 353 killings but was much more populous before years of population exodus.
This is the fifth year in a row that Baltimore has reported more than 300 killings. Before 2015, that number had generally been on the decline, but it reversed after civil unrest followed the death in police custody of a young black man, Freddie Gray.
Reasons for the change vary and are subject to interpretation.
Many have accused police of taking a hands-off approach to crime-fighting since six of their own were charged in connection with Gray's death. None of the officers was ultimately convicted.

The so called community: A call to police reporting a kidnapping in progress likely saved a woman from being abducted and possibly killed by a strange man, authorities in Alabama said. Police in Brookside said they received a call Sunday from a “citizen” when they saw a strange interaction between a man in a white van and a woman who was bleeding from her head and face, Fox 6 Birmingham reported. In a news release, police said the caller heard the woman screaming “he’s going to kill me.” When officers arrived at the scene, the man took off in the white van, leading police on a chase. It ended when police disabled the vehicle with gunfire. The suspect barricaded himself in the back of the van while holding a knife to the woman and demanding officers kill him, the news release said. "Fearing immediate danger to the victim," officers stormed the van and subdued the suspect with a stun gun, police said. The suspect, identified as Sean Sanders, was arrested. Police said he is a violent criminal from Los Angeles, Calif., with prior arrests for assault and kidnapping. Police said the van had a cage in the back of the vehicle, wire cages over the window, a blanket covering the back window and chains locking the back doors from inside, Fox 6 reported. Police said the woman sustained injuries to the head after Sanders hit her with a tire iron. Police Chief Mike Jones told Al.com Sanders and the victim did not know each other. The woman told police that Sanders’ intention was to drag her into the woods and kill her. “Without his vigilance and proactive response we could be investigating a homicide,” the news release quoted Jones as saying of the citizen.

The so called media is not so interested in the so called community in stories like this one: A Texas deputy died Tuesday after exchanging gunfire with a suspect fleeing a traffic stop, police say. The incident involving the Panola County officer, who has not yet been publicly identified, occurred around 2 a.m. outside of Carthage, according to Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake. In a press release, Lake said the deputy pulled over an SUV “when the driver suddenly exited the vehicle and fired a weapon at the deputy." The deputy returned fire and the suspect fled the scene. “Area residents, who had heard the gunshots, found the injured deputy and called for help," Lake added. "The deputy was transported to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.” Perp:
