What do you think from Damien Cox at the Toronto Star, The Detroit Red Wings, with 71 games played and only 39 points accumulated, would want the season to be treated as if it were complete, giving them the most balls in the regular lottery process. If you believe that being dreadful should be rewarded with a high draft pick — I don’t — then you would probably side with the Wings.... For a more logical solution, look back to the 2005 draft.... It made no sense to go with the same order again. Instead, the NHL came up with a rather clever plan. All 30 teams — even the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning — were eligible for the draft lottery, instead of just non-playoff teams. The lottery weightings were then based on the number of playoff appearances in the previous three seasons and the number of first overall picks in the previous four drafts. Teams that had none of either got three balls in the lottery, and other teams got either two balls or one depending on the results.... If the current NHL season can’t be completed, the 2005 draft process should be used as the prototype for 2020. Aside from being fair to all 31 teams, it would create all kinds of talking points and widespread interest at a time when sports fans in general are dying for their fix, and pro teams are going to be searching for creative ways to attract customers again. These are unprecedented times, but the NHL has a sensible precedent from which to work. You could even argue the NHL should use this kind of system every year. The philosophy of artificially rewarding the worst needs to come to an end. more It isn’t about rewarding teams for sucking, it is about giving bad teams a chance. While I wouldn’t mind some change to the system to make tanking a non-option the issue is that looking at the bigger picture as it stands now for teams like the Red Wings it doesn’t make sense not to. Wonder if this article would’ve been written in the Auston Matthews draft. I mean, that lockout draft is how the Pens got Malkin and then Crosby back to back. Is that more equitable then giving a ton of balls to a team that clearly proved it sucks ass? 71 games isn't like a fluke.

Great clip. That collector has some serious hockey passion, Think I have that Link Gaetz card and a Probert. That minor league fight clip he shows is top shelf. Some great names. If he did the top 20, I’m sure Shawn Cronin and Andre Nazarov would be there as well. Also John96 would approve..

EDMONTON, AB - The family of Oilers forward Colby Cave released the following statement on Thursday, thanking friends, family and the hockey community for their support during this difficult time.
There are no words to comfort a grieving family with a loss such as this. Yet, our community, our friends, and our family, found a way to wrap themselves around us, without saying a word.
People that impacted Colb's life seemed to stand out like beacons... teachers, hockey coaches, babysitters, buddies, and his family. We are so sad, and so broken for all of you too.
Colb's competitive nature always fuelled a drive to want to be better, and do better, in every aspect of his life; certainly what we are most proud of. To know that others recognized and admired those same qualities in Colby, makes us even more proud.
On Tuesday, the Cave family and the Oilers announced the creation of the Colby Cave Memorial Fund to help carry on Colby's memory and legacy.
Proceeds from the fund will go toward community programs with an emphasis on mental health initiatives and providing access to sports for underprivileged children.

Was this scrap of Shark news burried by all the sheltering in? Was Fug out in the kitchen March 31st making a tuna sandwich all day? Did I forget this signing already got noted on this board? www.nhl.com/news/john-leonard-joins-san-jose-sharks/c-316464984Maybe a one-season college wonder or did DW finally get lucky with a pick? Justin Braun also came out of U-Mass so that sobers me up a bit. Guess when they play hockey again in 2022 we'll all find out. He wants Kanes #9.

This week’s Hockey Happy Hour on NBCSN (5-7 p.m. ET) will feature memorable “on this date” games in playoff history. Last year on this date, the Sharks and Golden Knights battled to double overtime tied at one goal apiece. Anchored by goaltender Martin Jones’ 58 saves, San Jose avoided elimination when Tomas Hertl scored the winning goal while shorthanded, for a 2-1 road victory. The Sharks would go on to win the series in a memorable Game 7 and advance to Round 2. Alex Faust and Mike Johnson called the matchup from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The stunned look on the faces of the vegas fans is perfect:
