Why does that hick town Toronto always have to be involved. Fucken Frenchies
via Schris Johnston of Sportsnet,
The Las Vegas Review-Journal has put out a story saying Vegas will be confirmed as a hub city for the Stanley Cup Playoffs by June 22, but the truth is we should expect the official announcement before then.
Gary Bettman said as much on May 26 when he indicated it would be three weeks until the hub cities were finalized.
Vegas will be one of them. The other depends on how the Canadian government chooses to enforce the 14-day quarantine for those entering the country. We await an announcement there.
With training camps set to open July 10, teams need to know where this is going as soon as possible.
Ideally, the NHL would like to have a Canadian city serve as a hub alongside Vegas, but that won’t be finalized until the federal government makes a ruling. Toronto is the preferred destination, assuming the quarantine issue can be managed.

It also gives them and Arizona a nice travel advantage.

This was posted on the other board last Month. Anyone know Dirk Graham and how he relates to the Sharks?
I am trying to contact Dirk Graham as we want to put his bio on our website (sachm.org) as well as submit his name to the Regina Sports Hall of Fame in Saskatchewan. He played Junior Hockey here.
I can be reached at clboyd1@myaccess.ca or (306) 545-8824 or cell (306) 591-1160.

With the turmoil in the MLB and NBA, the NHL may be the only thing going.
Now, who thinks the Vegas ice will hold up through July and August?

from RT Sports,
Former NHL star Pavel Datsyuk is reportedly among those holed up at a Russian monastery where a priest has seized control and guarded the area with Cossacks after being told to stop services due to his Covid-19 conspiracy beliefs.
Former Detroit Red Wings star Datsyuk, 41, is said to be at Ekaterinburg’s Central Urals Monastery, where according to local media Shiigumen (father superior) Sergius has taken over after ousting the abbess of the convent.
The power grab comes after Sergius was reportedly banned from conducting religious duties because of his claims that the Covid-19 outbreak was a “pseudo-pandemic” and that it was being used as an excuse to microchip the public.
The priest is also said to have complained that the closure of churches in Russia during the coronavirus crisis was done under pressure from “the atheistic authorities.”

This happened yesterday (Tuesday)
via the Buffalo Sabres,
The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has relieved Jason Botterill of his duties as General Manager.
Senior Vice President of Business Administration Kevyn Adams has been named General Manager.
"This morning, we informed Jason Botterill he will no longer be the General Manager of the Sabres. This decision was made after many candid discussions with Jason during a full review of our hockey operation. We recognized we have philosophical differences regarding how best to put ourselves in a position to compete for a Stanley Cup. So, we decided to make this change.
"We wish Jason and his family all the best moving forward, and we thank him for his time and energy devoted to our organization and to the City of Buffalo.

I’m not here to say Jason Botterill was eventually going to bring a Stanley Cup to Buffalo. I don’t know that. And I don’t know that there was enough evidence yet to produce even a small glimpse of that path in three years of work. It was another season of struggles this year, that’s for sure. And you’ve got a frustrated franchise player in Jack Eichel.
All of this is true.
But what I will say – and I strongly believe this – is that three years is not enough time for any NHL GM to leave their full stamp. Three years is the same timeframe Tim Murray, the GM Botterill replaced, got in Buffalo before he was let go.

from Chris Johnston of Sportsnet,
Zach Hyman, who represents the Toronto Maple Leafs on the NHLPA’s Executive Board, indicated Tuesday that he doesn’t have much clarity on how restrictive the league’s return-to-play protocol will be.
That’s subject to ongoing negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA, and will ultimately be part of the package each side must approve before play resumes. Maintaining a controlled setup around the playing environment is the lynchpin to handing out the Stanley Cup amid the COVID-19 outbreak and could pose some challenges for players required to spend months cut off from the outside world.
“There aren’t many guidelines to what the bubble is,” said Hyman. “Everybody’s just talking about this bubble, but until we learn more about the restrictions, I (can’t) give you a better answer on that.”...
While concerns exist among some NHL players, especially as it pertains to the amount of time they’ll be separated from their families, they don’t seem nearly as pronounced. On Tuesday, Conor Sheary told reporters in Pittsburgh that he believes that most of his brethren are committed to making sacrifices that allow the Cup to be awarded this fall: “I think no matter what that takes, we’re willing to do that.”
