This is obviously hockey related so I assume its okay in this thread. Fug or CJ, if you disagree, go ahead and move this to the pit...but I personally think it fits here. My wife is trying to explain to me why I should keep watching the NHL when they play again...under certain conditions. She says all that matters to make my point is to not spend money on it and not wear my Sharks, NHL, “original six” clothing, etc...which tacitly endorses them. I already record everything so I never watch any commercials, pre-game, post game, or intermission analysis so no problem avoiding social justice BS that way. If it comes up during the actual play just mute or fast forward. I already canceled Center Ice and tossed my jersey’s, hats, etc. Her logic is if I watch it on our regular channel line up, without paying anything extra, or paying attention/subjecting myself to their indoctrination, its a win/win. They get nothing from me, but I still get to watch the actual game that I enjoy. Basically, enjoy the “game” but boycott the “league.” What do y’all think of her theory? I’ll have to think on it...while I watch golf  I am out. The NHL wants to side with criminals. They can do that without me. Not a dime will I spend with them. When play returns to the tank someday I wont be there. When at some point the truth about Kane comes out the sharks will be ashamed but that cant pretend they did not know. One must really wonder what those who know the truth are thinking behind closed doors. |

NEW YORK/TORONTO (Aug. 27, 2020) – After much discussion, NHL Players believe that the best course of action would be to take a step back and not play tonight’s and tomorrow’s games as scheduled. The NHL supports the Players’ decision and will reschedule those four games beginning Saturday and adjust the remainder of the Second Round schedule accordingly.
Black and Brown communities continue to face real, painful experiences. The NHL and NHLPA recognize that much work remains to be done before we can play an appropriate role in a discussion centered on diversity, inclusion and social justice.
We understand that the tragedies involving Jacob Blake, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others require us to recognize this moment. We pledge to work to use our sport to influence positive change in society.
The NHLPA and NHL are committed to working to foster more inclusive and welcoming environments within our arenas, offices and beyond.

So, Dan and CJ, is it your intention to stop watching, or simply not support the league financially? I’m absolutely on board with not supporting them financially and not wearing/saying anything in support. I’m still deciding about watching or not. Once the virus is over there will hopefully be international, college, European hockey to watch again, so that may be the route I take...looks like I’ve got a couple of days to decide.
CJ, with your move you may be able to find high school and college hockey to watch locally. Like me with football, I don’t watch the NFL, but they show high school football on prime time TV down here on Friday nights so I watch that.
I sincerely believe this will hurt the NHL in the long run. Obviously, some people will leave. I’m also confident that people who didn’t watch hockey before, including minorities, won’t start all of the sudden because the league got “woke”...and I’m also pretty sure the rioters aren’t going to gather around to watch hockey in two days.

I am just dumbfounded. I was fine with the kneeling, the speeches, and other shows of solidarity because I believe in free speech, but how does not playing sports do anything for the cause? It isn't going to bring the country to its knees. We can live without sports.
Aren't you hurting all the POC lives that work in said sports? These very rich athletes can hold out because they are well compensated. Normal people can't.
