Would be nice to get the prediction thread open since we have to make our picks soon...not that it will matter for me; I only picked two winners in round one
It's open, make your picks
Last time I made picks I stunk the place up. Oh well.

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
The San Jose Sharks have advanced to round two of the playoffs, which is good for the Detroit Red Wings.
One former coach, however, is done after another short playoff run. Again.
When the Sharks rallied from a 3-0 deficit in a memorable Game 7 on Tuesday, it propelled them one step closer to the Stanley Cup final.
Why should Wings fans care about that? Because if the Sharks make it to the last round, the conditional 2020 third-round pick they received from the Sharks in the Gustav Nyquist trade would become a second-round pick. It can also be triggered by Nyquist re-signing with the Sharks.

Fun postseason so far. Cup is up for grabs. Nobody should be a strong favorite I seem to have to re-learn this again every spring - Regular season is overrated, just get into the postseason and play tight hockey. Those games in January seemed so important at the time, the rankings/standings were everything. also in January, Avs seemed like such an unworthy opponent. Now Colorado is as dangerous as any other team left. A complete second season that seems to discard the regular seasons pecking order. I’m learning that all over again, I guess.

We’re doomed...Mike Rupp on NHL Network says the Sharks will win the cup, ‘they’re the deepest team left and if Jones is just average they should be unstoppable.’

Looks like they’re getting spanked for making a call against the NHL’s team...

Looks like they’re getting spanked for making a call against the NHL’s team... You got that right, the Sharks winning was not in the NHL agenda.

I guess Gary Bettman is butt hurt over his beloved Golden Knights getting beat.. Poor little Bettman This, plus the fact that Pittsburgh is also out I'm sure he's an unhappy little butthurt camper. Tampa, Pitt, Washington, Vegas, Nashville, five of the biggest US hockey markets are out. All Canadian teams are out. Chicago, LA, NYR, Detroit didn't even make it to the dance. I am sure the ice now tilts the TD Garden way, and I hope the NHL really doesn't care what happens in the West any more: there are no market favorites or history favorites left standing.
I wonder how big the salary cap implications will be the playoffs going the way they are.

Looks like they’re getting spanked for making a call against the NHL’s team... Or not making a call when it originally happened. Not to take pity on the refs but that penalty was called after a meeting of minds, not when the play happened. The other guy from G2 of Leafs-Bruins let the game get way out of hand so both could be lumped together as safety concerns.

The other guy from G2 of Leafs-Bruins let the game get way out of hand so both could be lumped together as safety concerns. That could be as well. I absolutely think the refs did their best to get it right after the conversation with the linesmen and think they have a very difficult job in general.
