Edmonton, AB) – The Edmonton Oilers announced today the hiring of Dave Tippett as the 16th head coach in Oilers franchise history.
Tippett, 57, has been a head coach in the NHL for 14 seasons (2002-04, 2005-17), with Dallas and Phoenix/Arizona, posting a career record of 553-413-28-102 in 1,114 games. The native of Moosomin, Saskatchewan also served as an assistant coach in Los Angeles from 1999-2002. Prior to joining the Oilers, Tippett was serving as a senior advisor for Seattle’s NHL team.
“Dave brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the organization,” said General Manager and Oilers President of Hockey Operations Ken Holland. “He is a great communicator and has consistently led teams known for their level of compete. I look forward to seeing Dave guide the Oilers this fall and we are all excited to have him on board.”

I wonder if Thomas is pissed at Perron for bringing this upon him It looks like he was cruising from the blue line in. Also, he was kind of trying to play the puck.

That Chara injury has the potential to be a bad one and could alter the series. Could easily have a broken bone in his arm from that.

I wonder if Thomas is pissed at Perron for bringing this upon him It was a joke that the ref was looking right at that wrestling match over 100 feet from the puck and didn't call them both for 2 minutes.

from Ken Campbell of The Hockey News,
“To be clear,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said prior to Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final, “we have the best officials in the world.” Hours later, those same officials, who are supposedly the best in the world, put on a display of managing a hockey game that should leave everyone in the league embarrassed. Again.
The men who wear the striped shirts have been a major focal point of this post-season. And as Game 1 of the final devolved into an amateur rodeo, it was more of the same in the first game of the league’s biggest showcase. It was disgraceful. And while Bettman and the league talk about improving video replay, not once did he mention that perhaps there needs to be something done about the way the games are refereed. The more you watch this game, the more it becomes apparent that the league actually loves the chaos, the mayhem and the always coveted “bad blood” that this league thinks it needs to sell its product.
I actually don’t question Bettman when he says NHL officials are the best in the world. They are. They’re highly trained. They’re in great shape. They have a difficult job where they have to make crucial decisions in real time. The kind of garbage we witnessed in Game 1 is not because the referees are bad, but because they are directed by the league to officiate the games this way. And the bigger the game, the more deeply the whistle gets nestled into the pocket.

I wonder if Thomas is pissed at Perron for bringing this upon him Heard about this hit. Watched it. Thought it would've been bigger. Could've been a charged but he glided into that hit for a while before contact. The Perron-Krug wrestlemania in front should be a penalty but I'm fine with the whistles being put away in the playoffs. That said, knowing that is what led to Krug making a kamikaze run to throw a hit the officials either need to make a stand or let things play out. Obviously not hearing a whistle, if you're the Blues you better go after Krug immediately and hope the officials call it even or they just let things slide further. The fact that there was no response just leads to a whole Bruins team, arena, and fanbase getting pumped up by a 5'9 defensemen running around like he's Lucic. St. Louis can't let that happen but they did. I don't feel sorry for them. On the whole, it's ugly and nasty but for my taste the NHL hockey is too pretty nowadays to begin with so I'm okay with it all.

Bettman is a idiot, Doesn't know the difference between a puck or Basketball. Like Red said in a previous post when the Sharks were playing, someone will get seriously hurt then the Lawsuit will come on the NHL & Little Gary will say we got the best officals in the world why is there a lawsuit, It was a clean hit

If that hit happened to 1 of the Sharks players, they would have put their tails between their legs & left the arena & the series would have been over
