If Toronto is desperate enough to retain a large chunk of his salary bring him back for the third or fourth line. Let him retire at the end of the season a Shark. I am sure he won't retire, and he'll seek to pass Gordie on the all-time games played list. PM would need two more seasons to catch Gordie. Patty could finish 3rd all-time games if he iron-mans through 82 games next season, but he’d still need 30 more to catch Gordie, If he’s willing to wear a Kings jersey to move up the all-time ladder, must mean a lot to him.

WTF? No thornton and no Pavs next season. Does DW have the balls to turn the reigns over to Logan. Erik Karlsson (29) and Gustav Nyquist (29) Re-Signing with The San Jose Sharks appears to be imminent, In what could be a 'New Era' for San Jose. The two swedish talents would demand high priced deals along with perhaps pushing out both Joe Thornton (39) and Joe Pavelski (34) from the Roster. Karlsson and Nyquist are expected to sign long-term deals. Both players have already developed good chemistry with their new team due to a deep post-season run. Expect Karlsson to lead the Defensive unit next season as his contract will make him the highest payed Shark. While Nyquist will add Potency and Experience to an Attack led by Logan Couture. Doug Wilson appears to have both future and present in mind with these rumored moves. The emergence of Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl and Kevin LaBanc as key players keeps the Sharks relevant in next season's Stanley Cup discussion and all players will help to fill the void left by Thornton and Pavelski. While Radim Simek will add Steel to The Sharks defense when he makes his return from an A.C.L injury. Kind of odd news article, if that's what it is. Knowing the org/DW tendencies, I would bet my left nut JT gets offered & signs another one-year Shark deal. Means a ton in 'the room' and still can be a decent 3C at 40. He's earned it, IMHO. JT an animal rebounding from knee injury challenges. No way DW leaves his meal ticket flapping in the wind and Joe wants to still play. He's back. I see a good chance of Pavelski 'surprise' retiring for health reasons this summer. If he wants to go out on top and avoid sharp decline, now's the time to do it. No true fan wants to see Pavs forced to wear sun glasses at 40. I sense his concussion issues just got more serious this post-season. He's a smart guy who wants to live on, I'd respect Pavs more if he retires now. How does the author mention 'Karlsson will lead the defence unit next season' without also mentioning Burns? Personally, I think EK65 is on his way out of town. Nyquist was ok but more similar to another Donskoi type than a Clowe type. DW really needs to seek out/sign a few Ryane Clowe types this summer. Sand paper over wax paper UFA types this summer, please. Sharks need to better prepare the roster for when push comes to shove again next season. The Sharks said after the end of the season that the injury that kept Pavelski out of Game 6 was a knee injury and not a concussion. That would explain how he was able to fly with the team to St. Louis because you can't fly if you are in the concussion protocol.

I don't like the smell of this (via Mirtle of TheAthletic):
Marleau’s family found the adjustment to Toronto difficult the past two seasons, after having only lived in Northern California. They sold their Toronto home some time ago, and his wife and four sons returned to San Jose – likely for good.
If Toronto is desperate enough to retain a large chunk of his salary bring him back for the third or fourth line. Let him retire at the end of the season a Shark. I’d be fine with that as long as the Sharks pay him whatever a 16 goal scorer is worth.

If Toronto is desperate enough to retain a large chunk of his salary bring him back for the third or fourth line. Let him retire at the end of the season a Shark. He's on the hook for $4.5M for the last season on his contract. Toronto can eat $2.5M of the contract and we'll thrown in Donskoi. Put Marleau on the 4th line with Joe Thornton at $2M per season and our 4th line is still slow but can score. Do you mean that line would be slow because of JT? PM still has good speed.

I am sure if he gets within 30, he'd sign a minimum contract to do the 30.

Lots of hitting from both teams. DW needs to get more guys that can play and hit. Playoff hockey is also about wearing out the other team. Burns was the teams best hitter and did his part but just not enough from soft guys that did nothing.

Have to be a player first and then be able to and willing to lay down hits.
