LeBrun-
The Sharks' GM search plans to be extensive, if I had to guess a dozen or so candidates at the outset, varying from former GMs, up and coming AGMs, player agents, former players. And the intention is not to rush the process. Willing to wait to talk to all targeted candidates

Joel Ward wants to be in the business side. I think he has already begun his journey. He did play here.....

Hasso has arrived at his definitive milestone Yeah I think he's going to gut the executive part of the team and start all over. Dougie Jr might survive the transition as the lead scout but I don't see him taking over as the next GM.

And the first question I would ask prospective GM candidates is how would you feel about trading players on the roster that have a NMC or over paid. That's what I would do, back them in a corner and see if they have a solution to the team being at the top of the cap.

So what if your best candidate says they need to completely rebuild? They just signed Hertl long and made that task more difficult. I think the Sharks missed a huge opportunity this year. Next year they could have traded Timo and have real opportunity to rebuild sooner than later. I am concerned whoever did the Hertl deal (Hasso) does not understand how far away they are from being a contender with this group.

So what if your best candidate says they need to completely rebuild? They just signed Hertl long and made that task more difficult. You tell them too bad. The only job openings for GMs are coming from teams that are in trouble. Yeah everyone would love to take over as GM of the Avalanche but that's precisely why that job isn't available.

This is huge though. I didn't think I'd ever get to see DW fired so I guess if someone else was ever gonna GM the Sharks, something like this would have to happen.
All the best to Wilson going forward, hope he gets healthy, the last few years have been rough but he brought this team consistent success over 20 years which is really hard to do.
I hope the new GM puts a real emphasis on creating a team with grit, toughness, and meanness as an identity. I don't know what candidates are out there but I can only think of a few (Chiarelli) who I would put on the 'DO NOT HIRE' list right away.

I agree, it is probably why it is so hard to watch the team these last couple years, we have been accustomed to the sharks being top 10 in the league for so long. But just like head coaches, eventually a fresh voice is needed. I'd like to see Bobby Lou or Kevin Weeks get a crack. Luongo has been sitting in Florida for a while now watching what it takes to build an absolute wagon of a team. I do expect Wilson back at some point, but his statement left me a little curious at the end he said he wants to be back at the "NHL" level and didn't mention the sharks specifically.

He is right, him and Vlassic are the only two who "cannot" be moved but hopefully the new GM has a heart to heart with every player like Wilson did years ago in finding those who want to "be here" as apposed to those who just want to "live here". On a side note, I do believe it is time to move on from Couture. I'd sell him to Toronto some how.

Just saw from a reputable source (I think it was Chris Johnston) that Hasso doesn’t want a full rebuild and will be letting prospective GMs know that: I agree with you that’s what they need.

I am eating some crow. I really thought he was going to be promoted up. Yeah its interesting that Joe Will is helping with the "search", you would think he would want the position? I don't think Wilson JR has done nearly enough time to be considered for the GM position. I do think he is halfway decent at the scouting/drafting, at the very least he is a fresh voice because I think Burke has lost his touch at least a decade ago. With the game evolving, it makes sense that drafting/developing players needs fresh insight and evolve as well.
