I am eating some crow. I really thought he was going to be promoted up. Yeah its interesting that Joe Will is helping with the "search", you would think he would want the position? I don't think Wilson JR has done nearly enough time to be considered for the GM position. I do think he is halfway decent at the scouting/drafting, at the very least he is a fresh voice because I think Burke has lost his touch at least a decade ago. With the game evolving, it makes sense that drafting/developing players needs fresh insight and evolve as well. How old is Joe Will? He's been with the organization for a long time. He has to be closer to retirement now. I looked it up. He started with the Sharks in 1990, and was with the North Stars for six years before that.

Must be why he doesn't want the job?

The GM job will be much better looking in a few years but the next two or three will be rough.

via the LA Kings PR department,
LA Kings defenseman and alternate captain Drew Doughty underwent successful wrist surgery today (April 11) and will not return this season. Doughty sustained the injury during a game on March 7 at Boston and has missed the last 16 games (Since March 10).
Doughty will begin his rehabilitation process immediately and is expected to be fully recovered for next season.

The San Jose Sharks may still be working with an interim general manager but that won’t stop them from signing contracts for next season. The team has signed minor league defenseman Nick Cicek to a two-year entry-level contract. PuckPedia reports that the deal will begin in 2022-23, and carries an NHL cap hit of $837.5K.
Joe Will, interim GM, released the following statement:
Nick has a strong track record of leadership in his career, having been the captain of the Portland Winterhawks last season, and he has even been an alternate captain for the Barracuda this year in select games. Among AHL rookie defensemen, he’s top 10 in scoring and top 15 in goals. Nick has a bright future and we’re excited to add him to our NHL defensive depth.
Cicek, who will turn 22 next month, joined the San Jose Barracuda this season after going undrafted out of junior and has been outstanding from the drop of the puck. With 23 points he sits ninth among all AHL rookie defensemen in scoring, just one point behind Artemi Kniazev for the team lead despite playing in seven fewer games than the second-round pick. The 6’3″ Cicek has also racked up 60 penalty minutes, including a pair of fights. One of those came after Andreas Englund hit San Jose forward Jeffrey Viel, earning Cicek a misconduct for instigating.
That mix of skill and toughness is obviously an attractive package, especially when it comes in someone that is so lauded for his leadership as Will points out. Whether Cicek can continue his development and become an NHL player remains to be seen, but the Sharks obviously like what he has done this year enough that they’ve rewarded him with a contract that makes it possible.

While I initially revel with this news (cause f*** the Queens) if they fallout of the playoffs it could open a hole for Vegas to sneak back in.

Sorry, this is only part of the article
from Sean McIndoe of The Athletic,
This piece is about a debate, and debates can get contentious, so let’s start with the part we can all agree on. Everything in this next paragraph is indisputably true, and no reasonable person would argue with even one word of it.
The NHL’s standings system sucks. It’s ridiculous that a professional sports league gives out more points for some games than others, especially when those points are awarded in a way that encourages teams to play it safe and keep it close instead of trying to win outright. The league says they do this to keep the playoff races closer, but the system very clearly doesn’t actually do that, and is really about inflating everyone’s records so that the GMs who vote on this stuff can look like they’re having success they haven’t earned. Maybe the system made some small amount of sense in 1999 when the league was overrun with ties, but the shootout ended that issue. Today, these extra points are dumb and awful and embarrassing, a symptom of a league that’s more interested in coddling the egos of the old boys club in charge than on delivering a product that makes sense. The best time to change the system was 17 years ago. The second-best time is right now.
Everyone nodding along? Of course you are. Now comes the contentious part.
What exactly is that extra point the NHL gives out for some games and not others?
continued (paid)
The Athletic has a $1 per month sale going on righ now.

The Florida Panthers have scored 300 goals in a season for the first time in franchise history! They are the 5th team to score 300 goals in a season since the 2005 lockout. 1. Tampa Bay Lightning (2018/19) - 319 2. Washington Capitals (2009/10) - 313 3. Ottawa Senators (2005/06) - 312 4. Detroit Red Wings (2005/06) - 301

It makes me disgusted watching them and then switching to the sharks game most nights. The crazy part is if you asked a casual hockey fan anyone on half the FL roster they would have no idea who you were talking about. Maybe the sharks NEED to hire Dale Tallon, he built the Chicago team and now Florida team into what they are.
