Sadly the Marleau jersey retirement (obvious as it is) might be the best move of the offseason. Jersey can hang right next to all those Pacific Division Championship banners Hahahaha classic Nellie 🤣🤣🤣

NOT good news for Sharks at ALL.. a tipping point special teams guy joins a team you must play 7 times and try to crawl ahead of.. You’d think Klingberg deserved more than a 1 year deal. Head scratcher. That's very good news. The Sharks aren't going anywhere this year, with Klingberg in Anaheim or without.

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,
- Six weeks out from training camp, the roster of unsigned free agents might challenge for a playoff spot — or would do an equally credible job as did the 2021-22 expansion Kraken.
That is a function of the flat cap that has squeezed teams and the free-agent class, as it will for at least the next two summers until the NHLPA’s escrow debt to the league is paid in full. This is a function of the 2020 collective bargaining agreement extension that fully contemplated this issue.
At this juncture, Sonny Milano is out there, and so is Tyler Motte. Paul Stastny, Calvin De Haan, Evan Rodrigues, Zach Aston-Reese, P.K. Subban, Cody Eakin, Ryan Murray, Jay Beagle and Derek Stepan are unsigned. So is Braden Holtby. So is Phil Kessel.
And even Nazem Kadri, who apparently is waiting for his preferred team to clear enough cap space to either sign him or register an already signed deal that is some general manager’s bottom desk drawer.

Mario Ferraro #SJSharks 4 year / $13,000,000 contract $3,250,000 AAV
The deal buys 1 RFA year and 3 RFA Arb years. It will also take Ferraro to unrestricted free agency when the deal expires.
Not bad

Me thinks the organization is heading in a different direction I want to believe that but it felt like they overpaid to upgrade their bottom six. Hopefully Grier’s pro scouting is better than what was here before.

It's a Fkn crime the NHL has allowed this Evander Kane contract grevance ruling to drag out this long. It was supposed to be resolved before the draft. Grier is the only NHL GM who really doesn't yet know what his true Cap space will be on opening night. It's an unknown no other GM has to deal with. according to sheng Peng, with Ferraro's new contract, Sharks are right at the 22-23 season Cap limit of $82.5m. Having three $2m/Yr. goalies on the roster doesn't look sustainable. Labanc is a big question mark on the roster at $4.7m. No more $$ left to sign Gadjovich or Noah Gregor at this point. So do the Sharks have an extra $7m in Cap space, do they prevail in the Kane matter or not? During his grevance request, Kane has been allowed to sign TWO new NHL playing contracts. Seems Kane has moved on, but not the NHL. sanjosehockeynow.com/san-jose-sharks-mario-ferraro-salary-cap/

Sharks are apparently going with a Golden Seals inspired reverse retro this season.
I thought the vast majority of reverse retro sweaters were horrible so let’s hope they get it right with the Seals uniform. Personally doing the original jersey in black would be the move but nobody’s asked me yet.

Would be a disaster for SJ and EDM getting ready for the season. Which is why I assume there was some kind of a wink and a nod from the league that that won’t happen, it’s been a very long time. Then again, Kanes new contract was for the exact same dollar amount as his remaining contract…

Neither party wanted Kane’s Shark contract reinstated, so some kind of other settlement has been worked out behind the scenes. At this point it doesn’t seem sharks Cap amount will be penalized either.. because by the calculations of CapFriendly, sharks aren’t counting any portion of Kane’s cap hit, yet still squeezed at about $2 mil under the current Cap amt.. Grievance story seems to have faded away completely and maybe that’s by the agreements design.

From my understanding it was NHLPA that filed the grievance in the first place and not POS Kane. Either way this thing should have been care right after the season ended.

From my understanding it was NHLPA that filed the grievance in the first place and not POS Kane. Either way this thing should have been care right after the season ended. I think that’s a good point - it seems to be the NHLPA’s termination grievance way more than Kane’s all along. Grier & Co. have been signing players and working their Cap all summer as if this grievance doesn’t even exist. Not any concern from any in the Sharks org. that the pending grievance has held back their roster make-over decisions. Peng mentioned Sharks may end up on the hook for the *difference* between Kane’s terminated Shark contract and his new Oiler contract. ($7m vs. $5m) but even that seems radical at this point. Kane has been allowed to sign 2 new contracts in the meantime, which hurts his case IMO. 3 weeks away from Camp opening and still public silence on the matter. So feeling 90% sure a back room deal has been reached with no effect to SJ’s Cap. Maybe they paid out some indirect money back to Kane. So I’d consider the matter closed at this point. Still, Sharks don’t have a dollar to spare in their Cap, likely still have some salary cutting to do even with the Kane issue apparently behind them.

Was gonna say… Flames might be the first team in history to lose their two best players in one offseason and actually get better. Kadri at that price is perfect and they replace the nastiness Tkachuk brought.
