The NHL accepts no liability for brain injuries suffered by Steve Montador, who was posthumously diagnosed with CTE, per legal documents acquired by TSN’s Rick Westhead. In a response to a lawsuit from Montador’s family the NHL wrote: “Any injury or damage sustained by [Montador] was caused, in whole or in part, by [Montador's] own lack of due care and fault, and/or by pre-existing conditions; and/or the lack of due care of others for whom the NHL has no responsibility or control.”

I think Heed is a better hockey player than Prout, but I also think he sits the first two games of the season if everyone is healthy.
Reaves vs. Prout, who wins, what do you think?
Win or lose though the Sharks got a guy who'll stand up to Reaves and gives them a chance at neutralizing that part of VGK's game. All that said, Prout can't skate like Reaves can to be that consistent physical factor. But he is a heavyweight and an enforcer, old school. Not above crossing the line if he feels he needs to, something this team hasn't had much. I'm excited that Prout can be 'serviceable' with blueline minutes whereas Haley showed signs he couldn't skate at NHL level any longer. Another underrated blueline move is the return of Bob Boughner behind the bench. He'll help Prout's game along and tighten up the defense a little with better systems. definitely help the sandpaper thing too.

Just keep in mind Haley skated most of the postseason on a broken leg.

Very sad what happened here.

Haley is a gamer and I tip my hat, but pretty sure he won't be on an NHL roster this season. remember Bogey had to cut Haley lose in FLA last mid-season. IMO he's not an NHL skater any longer, healthy or not. Everyone is rooting for him to have a healthy long retirement.

It was pretty clear in the playoffs that DeBoer was in Ryan's corner. How little he was used probably damaged his confidence to a point where you might as well let him go for his own sake as well as yours. The difference from Ryan to Heed/Prout is negligible in my opinion. More offense from Heed and more toughness from Prout. Put it together with what'll likely be expected from that position and I'm pleased with the change. The NHL game moves so fast now it really is important for every Dman to play his strong side so he can rim the puck quickly up the wall or make a crisp forehand pass up the middle; that’s why I fret in here about L and R blueliners. I personally think Ryan was better than Heed and was more useful to SJ roster as a left shot. and pretty sure JR game experience is more than Heed’s by a factor of two. With Burns & 65 soaking up majority ice time on the R, Heed now has to also battle with Prout for the rare shifts that remain. Prout sounds pretty tough in July. Cant help remembering exactly two years ago when this entire board was excited (including me) about DW signing Brandon Bollig as our new ‘tough guy’. What an impact Bollig had in SJ, eh? 😄. Propbably all Roy’s fault. I think the key here is that without Braun DW wanted a righty that could be relied on and has shown he can skate 15-19 minutes a night if needed. There was a gaping hole on right d, and ideally Burns/Karlsson don't actually soak up 52 minutes a night. On left you have Pickles-Dillon-Simek. In my opinion if you sign Ryan then he rides pine and we have Prout in for 82 games which is likely a losing scenario. Now, if there are injuries I'd agree that our left side is going to be hosed really quick. But for a standard roster I thibk the right moves were made.

You have to be kidding me about the upside of Joakim Ryan. He has offensive potential but a defensive liability that got exposed multiple times. D is now solid providing EK65 surgery...now we need to fix bottom 6. I want LeBanc running the top PP unit and then Jumbo on 2nd Unit. You're pp scenario is exactly what they did last season. Not a stretch that they repeat this.

He is the pest that the PA needs.

No more Sharks news? I want this drama concluded so I can go back to my working life and 110 degree summer heat. Here's some idol fun in the sun - Meet the reason Pavelski can't wear #8 in Dallas. Bill Goldsworthy was quite the character in days with the North Stars, did a little dance called the 'Goldy Shuffle' after each goal. All us kids tried to copy it. North Star legend. I saw him play against the Seals in Oakland when I was a kid. Pavs NHL numbers pass Goldy in every single category now, but the wild guy was there first and did hockey his way. RIP Goldy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Goldsworthy

for Sharkhaywood - FYI on a slow summer hockey news day - there is a full movie available telling the history of Fresno hockey. Mostly covering the hey-day of the Fresno Falcons semi-pro team and the characters that played as Falcons over the years. I knew few of the guys in the interviews, some played youth hockey in Berkeley WAY back in the day. when I returned to east bay after my midwest hockey adventures in '80, Fresno coach Laurer called my parents house to ask if I wanted to play. I said no way, heard is was a saturday night goon show. one of the guys interviewed STILL shows up occasionally at monday hockey skate in Dublin. At end of this 2min clip, it tells how to request the full movie at fresnohockeytalk@gmail.com. Who knew Fresno was so hockey history rich?

Eugene Melnyk says that Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Lisa MacLeod came up to him at a Rolling Stones concert and didn’t mince words.
“I am your minister and you’re a fucking piece of shit and you’re a fucking loser.”
MacLeod took to Twitter to confirm.
“Let me set the record straight, I gave @melnykeugene some feedback at the Rolling Stones concert and I apologized to him for being so blunt. I have serious concerns about the state of our beloved Ottawa Senators!”
This is my new favourite story of the summer.

I don’t recall that about Staubach, who I admired greatly due to his military service and he was fun to watch with all that scrambling around. I do remember the Cowboys claiming to be “America’s team”...idiots.

To stimulate some discussion...
Assuming (I know, makes ass out of you and me) a few things... 1. Jumbo and Patty sign low dollar deals 2. Labanc signs a little higher bridge deal (hoping 2 years otherwise he will likely get picked up by Seattle) With the little bit of cap room... What could be done to make the 4th line actually intimidating (size and speed). On a side note, in a perfect world... Labanc and somehow Patty assimilate to the top 6, then move Goody to the 3rd line with Jumbo and Sorensen (I that that combo was more dangerous but injuries and what not) Thoughts....
