When I was around my son's age, I never stayed home in the afternoon unless I had homework or chess. We had a gang of half-dozen folks, so around 4:30-5pm we go around knocking on the doors of each one's apartment to come outside and play, usually soccer.
We were surprised that we never saw it happening where we lived in the US: not in San Jose and not even now in Danville, with seemingly plenty of kids around and a tight neighborhood.
Until cjelliko took the matter in his own hands. He started playing on the green by himself, with a football, or a baseball, or whatever. A couple of kids joined. In a couple of days they realized they can pick each other up.
So now for a month or so practically every day at 5pm or so there's a knock on the door. And cjelliko is out there until twilight, with his bike or scooter, or ball. Chess lessons suffer, but I'd rather him do that than to sit in front of a screen for the evening or driving everyone crazy in the house because he's bored.

Here's to the long lost art of kids having fun outdoors.

In the summer we only subscribed for the internet service from Comcast ($45). Once the hockey season began approaching, I wanted to upgrade to the promoted rate of $70/month. $25 a month for hockey should be good, no? But then, at the confirm order page suddenly all kinds of fees and commissions pop up, and it's suddenly .. $112/month, a $67 increase.
Raspberry PI: $70 Private VPN: $45 for two years NHL.tv Sharks only: $115 Total: $230
Giving the finger to Comcast: priceless.

talk about some BS, so supposedly through COX Cable I have Center Ice however I still have to pay more if I want the NHL Network?!
Marbs, do you know about this?
Reason I ask is cause of the stupid double booking on NBCCSN where I had to deal with the blues and and caps till it was over.
ah well.

In the past on Direct TV you had to wait for the other game to end or hope they would show it on NHL Network.

Well after a month off I am back in the working world. Started a new job on the 1st. Well done! You picked up a new contract before Marleau did. Thats good because if you don't work for two full months or more, you forget how to work. Just ask Fug. Congrats!

Includes NFL RedZone! Enjoy sports and outdoor coverage on MLB Network, beIN Sports, Outdoor Television and more.

I watch the Red Zone more on Sundays than I do regular national broadcast games

I also have the SEC and ACC network. I watch those way more than espn or most other sports channels.

I didn't have one of those signs to bring with me. If I did, I might be inclined to snap the pic in the WC... BTW, Summer's over... especially here. It was fucking freezing at Oktoberfest last night! Damn near sobered up on the walk back to the hotel!

Well after a month off I am back in the working world. Started a new job on the 1st. Congratulations! That’s almost a perfect gap. Long enough to take a break, but not too long that it becomes a mental and financial stress out. Well played!

I get the regional sports pack for $10 a month during hockey season. Costs less than center ice and I get to see all games of USA based teams. Usually 3/4 games on every day.

Does this work and what company offers it? I fear it's a southern thing. I tried to get csn ca when I came to az but it was blacked out for games.

In the last two nights I’ve watched four different games...Rangers, Caps, Columbus and San Jose...all on their regional sports channel. Only downside is its on Direct TV...which was way better before ATT got involved. Still the best sports programming though. I would think the only black out issue you would have is for Yotes games.

Center Ice is free on Direct TV for the first week / ten days. They'll black it out soon unless you buy it
