And FU PG&E and the state of California. I was notified to prepare for up to seven days without power due to potential high winds in “my area”. I just spent $600 on a generator and peripheral equipment needed. CPUC and PG&E should reimburse everyone for these costs as this seems to be the new normal. And the state wants to outlaw natural gas and make homes use only electricity to be green? My quest for a retirement landing place continues. Seven days...that sucks. I should buy some stock in California based whole house generator companies. Hope y’all make it through okay.

I miss California so much I went to DMV here and registered two “new in the state” vehicles and got my drivers license in less than 30 minutes with no appointment at half the California price...and I walked out with the license plates (they call them “tags” here) and my drivers license...no, “it will come on the mail in a few weeks BS. I went to AAA this morning to get my new passport picture and I was going to renew my license there but the line was five deep. I'll be going there tomorrow and deal with the wait. Passport photo? Where are you headed?

Ya, I expect that I won’t lose power much if at all, but the fact that the state, the public utilities commission thought this was an acceptable solution after PG&E diverted funds intended for maintenance to executive bonus's and dividends tells me it’s time to get out of Dodge. Unless I can get on the CPUC, eh?

Israeli politics:
Former Defense Minister, Knesset Member Avigdor Liberman, who is likely to decide how the ruling coalition is going to shape, if at all, has quite a language. He was quoted saying that the current Likud will send the intellectuals who founded it, like Jabotinski and Begin, spinning in their grave. "That's what happens if you put an ox in the Ministry of Culture", referring to the outspoken and quite cloddish Miri Regev, former spokeswoman of the IDF.
Later, when caught by a journalist in the Knesset building he was asked if he would like to apologize for that statement.
"Yes, I would like to apologize. I would like to apologize from the bottom of my heart to all the oxen."

Germany votes for this:
A Syrian migrant shouting in Arabic about Allah ploughed a truck into traffic in the German city of Limburg, injuring 9 people in an incident being treated as a terrorist attack.
The suspect dragged the driver of a white Mercedes truck from his vehicle before accelerating into other cars at a traffic light.
Witnesses said the terrorist said “Allah” several times and spoke Arabic.
It’s a miracle that the man didn’t choose to plough into pedestrians, which would have undoubtedly caused more fatalities.

When you dont like the other side just dont allow them to speak:
Georgetown University students were left disappointed after protesters forced Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan to end a planned speech, Campus Reform correspondent Justin Drewer said Tuesday.
Appearing on "Fox & Friends: First," Drewer, a Georgetown student, said that students at the annual immigration conference showed up specifically to hear McAleenan and felt slighted by protesters who shouted down the secretary.
Before the secretary even began to talk, protesters stood up and shouted: "When immigrants come under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!"

It never hit 100 this Summer. Now its in the high 70’s/low 80’s during the day and low/mid 60’s at night. I like heat, and the humidity doesn’t bother me, so I loved the Summer...but I have friends here who pretty much stayed inside from about noon to 6pm because they didn’t like the heat. I’d still live here even if I didn’t like the heat. The positives far outweigh two/three months of heat.

I’ve enjoyed Texas the times I’ve been there but it's only been a few days at a time. We really liked the Montgomery County/Lake Conroe area. Tennessee is fantastic...it would have been on our list if they had an ocean there. The Carolina’s are...well, we moved here so I guess that covers that. The Smokey/Blue Ridge Mountain areas are great if you don’t care about driving four hours to the beach.

The beach is not a big deal, and the Atlantic beach is too humid, Israel-like, we think - we may be wrong. Indiana is somewhat chiller. SoCar seems to be a bit too hot, +90F with 75% rel. humidity is nasty, but if it's not like that in Jul/Aug, tell us.
We are looking at a republican county suburb next to a bigger city so that we can take the kids for some entertainment once in a while. "Republican county in a republican state" is immutable, all the rest are subject to weighting.
You're in Greenville area, right?

You're in Greenville area, right?
We are in Aiken County, which is about 25 miles East of Augusta, Georgia and about two hours South of Greenville, SC. You’re right, the Atlantic Coast is very humid in the summer. That’s one if the reasons we moved to Aiken...people on the coast come here to escape the humidity in the Summer. If you look up Aiken on Wiki it is listed as having “ the mildest temperature’s throughout the year then the rest of South Carolina.” Now that I’m here, I can vouch for that statement. However, if you don't want 90+F temps in July/August, this isn’t for you..but neither is Texas or Tennessee. The humidity is usually in the 50’s/60’s in the Summer...but it was as high as 85 a couple of times also...thats why God made cold beer and air conditioning Also, I’ll take a couple of months of heat over California turning off the lights because its windy... If you’re looking for republican counties...hard not to find them down here in the Deep South and Texas, except for the big cities/college towns. However, in defense of my democrat friends...the dems down here are not the alt-left radicals you find in California. They’re farmers, blue collar workers, teachers, etc...good folks. Their pro police, the military and are against illegal immigration. I tell people all the time...many of the dems down here are far more conservative than many rep’s I knew in California. I describe this area as...”I can count on one hand the number of Toyota Prius’s with Hilary for president stickers l’ve seen...but I see big trucks with Hilary for prison stickers all the time”...and many of those truck drivers are dems There’s plenty of big cities, with big city things to do, with conservative suburbs all throughout the Deep South. I’d stay away from the Atlanta area though...complete shit hole. Nashville, Knoxville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbia, and especially Charleston, SC are all nice areas IMO. Needless to say, there are significant financial reasons to move here. If you can work from home, or live in a suburb and work in the city, the salaries are okay but obviously not like California. One of the main reasons we moved here...I want my boys to be able to buy a home someday...without me buying it for them, like I did. You can still do that here if you have a decent job. Pretty much impossible in any decent area of California these days. Also, I know you like to do unique, cultural, educational things with your family and you don’t mind driving. Within a one day drive from here is New York, Philly, DC, all the big Southern cities, Gulf of Mexico, etc.

The hard left hates this:
On Monday, DeGeneres addressed the backlash she received after appearing alongside Bush at last weekend's Dallas Cowboys game.
"Here's the thing: I'm friends with George Bush. In fact, I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have," DeGeneres continued. "We're all different and I think that we've forgotten that that's okay that we're all different... but just because I don't agree with someone on everything doesn't mean that I'm not going to be friends with them."
"When I say, 'Be kind to one another,' I don't mean only the people that think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn't matter."
Bush said he "appreciated" friend DeGeneres' comments. Bush's spokesman, Freddy Ford, told Fox News exclusively on Tuesday: "President and Mrs. Bush really enjoyed being with Ellen and Portia (de Rossi) and appreciated Ellen’s comments about respecting one another. They respect her. "

The University of Sheffield Student’s Union in the UK has banned white people from attending a meeting about anti-racism. Yes, really. The SU announced that it would hold focus groups on “how we can create an anti-racist Students’ Union” as part of an effort to shift from a “non-racist to an actively anti-racist” stance. However, no white people are allowed to take part. “Please note that these sessions are only open to black and minority ethnic (BME) students,” states the announcement. Banning people from a meeting about racism because of their skin color is…what’s the word? Oh yeah, racist. The controversy follows a similar farce at the University of Edinburgh where white people were banned from asking questions at an event called Resisting Whiteness. “We will not be giving the microphone to white people during the Q&As, not because we don’t think white people have anything to offer to the discussion but because we want to amplify the voices of people of colour,” stated promotional material for the event.
